Chapter 7: Chapter 7 Existential Crisis

[Skill: Effect Identification]

[Poison Name: Mana Devouring Venom]

[Poison Description: Eats the affected individual’s mana, growing stronger until it reaches the brain. Once the brain is affected, the individual dies]

Aiden stared at the information in front of him. With his newfound skill, which he knew nothing about, he had somehow identified the poison; he could actually save the prince.

’Since the poison devours mana, normal healing wouldn’t work; that’s why the priestesses couldn’t heal the prince. I need to take care of the poison and then heal his wounds... Now, how do I do that’

Aiden looked through the system. Even though he had the knowledge of all the spells and whatnot, he was still a newbie to the entire magic system.

’Now what do I do, since I can’t use normal healing? I should probably use Sanctuary or Purification. I also have a Resurrection spell, what if I just let the prince die and bring him back to life’

’Even if that would work, is Resurrection really the best choice? Purification does remove poison, but it could feed the poison instead of...’

[Just use Purification and then Greater Heal or Divine Restoration]

An almost mechanical voice cut him off mid-thought, and as it did he could see the exact words appear on his system screen.

"You can talk?" Aiden spoke out loud before covering his mouth.

[I can talk... Wait, you can hear me]

The mechanical voice was slowly turning into a human-like one and sounded just as surprised as he was. Aiden stared at the system screen as the voice came to the realization that it could really talk; it also felt strange to have something talking directly into his head.

[I can’t believe it, I can actually talk and you can hear me]

’Were you not able to before?’ Aiden asked in his head this time.

[I could talk, but you wouldn’t be able to hear. I can talk to myself but not to the user of the system... I know what happened]

’You do?’

[The glitch in the system must be responsible; there’s no other explanation. I’m not supposed to be able to talk to you, only running the system in the background]

’Wait, so what caused the glitch, and how do I get out? This is getting frustrating’ Aiden spoke.

[Get out? Get out of what?]

’What do you mean get out... When do I get out of this fucked up game? Nexverse released a game riddled with fucking bugs, even the system has a glitch, since you are the system, log me out’

[So let me get this straight, you think you’re in a game... Hmmm, I don’t really know how to explain this to you, but this isn’t really a game... I’m sure you met the goddess, she didn’t drop you into the game, she actually reincarnated you into this body]

Aiden couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Surely it had to be a lie; something was definitely wrong, but now that he thought about it, it had been staring at him in the face the entire time.

Even before the game was released, he had read the official forum, lore, and information about the game. The only time the goddess of light was mentioned was because she was the goddess of the Elaris Theocracy.

He definitely wasn’t supposed to encounter her, given that he was just starting the game; it was supposed to be character creation first, but the goddess he met was overly perverted and wasn’t just the goddess of light but also the goddess of lust.

[Ehmm... You can have your existential crisis later, because the prince is dying]

’Shit, I forgot about him’ Aiden mumbled as he placed his hands on top of the Prince’s chest, ’You said Purification was the solution right? What if the poison devours the...’

[The mana, it doesn’t work like that. Before the poison does anything, it would have been eradicated]

Aiden placed his hands on the chest of the prince. The moment he thought of the spell, the knowledge of how to cast the spell resurfaced in his brain, and a magic circle formed between his hands and the prince’s chest.

[Purification]

The prince grunted as his chest rose, and immediately the dark purple lines that had almost gotten to his head began retracting and soon faded away. The only thing remaining was the cut in the hand of the prince, and his breathing slowly stabilized.

[Greater Heal]

Aiden cast another spell, his hands facing directly at the prince’s injury, and in front of his eyes, the wound closed up without leaving a scar.

[Your healing abilities are incredible, what a waste]

’What do you mean a waste? And I haven’t gotten over the fact that I’m no longer inside the game world’

[I’ll explain to you what happened, but you should know, this is real now, there’s no way to reverse it]

’Then what happened to my body on earth?’

[I’m just a system, how would I know]
