Rose clearly saw the blatant arrogance of someone who knew she was the favored one in Samantha’s demeanor.

Samantha obviously had no intention of giving Rose a chance to respond. She simply walked past her and hurried toward the man waiting patiently outside.

Rose stood there for a long moment.

It wasn’t until Caleb called her that she finally collected herself and headed downstairs.

They had no say in Sky High’s affairs.

Nor could they stop Samantha from becoming one of its shareholders.

When Rose came out, she didn’t see Ryan or Samantha anywhere.

Sometimes, she truly wanted to cut open Ryan’s heart and see why he always managed to strike precisely where it hurt her the most.

Caleb was clearly troubled by the situation as well.

“Should I drive you home first?” he asked.

Rose was lost in thought and was about to answer when her phone rang.

Distracted, she answered without checking the caller ID.

“Rose, when are you coming home?”

Margaret’s voice came through the phone, carrying an ambiguous tone.

Rose snapped back to reality.

She glanced at the number.

It was the landline from the house she shared with Ryan.

Margaret must have been there.

Pressing her lips together, Rose replied, “I just got off work.”

“All right, then come home early. I am waiting for you.”

Margaret’s sudden visit left Rose feeling irritated. The events of the day had already ruined her mood, and now she had to deal with this as well.

In truth, she and Ryan had recently reached a point where returning to the moon lake villa was entirely optional.

Neither of them had taken Margaret’s remarks about having a child seriously.

But now that Margaret had come personally to check on them, Rose knew she had no choice but to go back and deal with it.

After ending the call, Rose parted ways with Caleb.

He still looked worried.

“That old lady isn’t easy to deal with. If anything happens, call me immediately.”

Rose was still young, and Caleb couldn’t help worrying that she might end up at a disadvantage.

She nodded.

When Rose returned to Moon Lake Villa, she discovered that Ryan had come home as well.

He was sitting in the living room, engaged in a tense standoff with the matriarch of the Knight family.

Clearly, Margaret was the only one upset.

Ryan, on the other hand, remained calm. He leaned lazily against the sofa, casually looking at his iPad as though her emotions had nothing to do with him.

Rose cast him a complicated glance. The incident involving Sky High had shaken her deeply.

Their reunion now carried nothing but tension and unresolved emotions.

“Rose, has work really been that busy?”

Margaret spoke the moment she saw her, her tone filled with disapproval.

“If both of you are this busy, how are you supposed to take care of your family and carry out your plans for having children?”

Rose walked over.

“Yeah, work has been busy lately. I’ve been working a lot of overtime.”

That was why she rarely came home.

At least, that was the excuse she gave.

But Margaret suddenly slapped the table.

“This is outrageous!”

“Ryan has to manage such a large company, so it’s understandable. But Rose, you shouldn’t be like this. There’s no need for you to work yourself to exhaustion. What’s wrong with staying home and resting? Your priority should still be the Knight family. Besides, once you become pregnant, you’ll have to take maternity leave anyway. You might as well resign now.”

For some reason, Rose suddenly wanted to laugh.

And she did.

“Grandma, it seems you’ve forgotten that we’re already divorced. Am I supposed to quit my job for him now?”

Why was it always the woman who had to make sacrifices?

Even if her career wasn’t as impressive as Ryan’s, why should she be the one expected to give it up?

Margaret sensed the sharpness in Rose’s tone. She paused briefly before frowning.

“But a promise is a promise. Do I really need to remind you?”

Rose knew she was referring to the revocation of their divorce certificate.

What frustrated her most was that, in a moment of urgency, she and Ryan had used a special channel to process the divorce. Because of that, the information had not yet entered the regular system and would only become official after the grace period expired.

Until then, it could still be revoked.

That was precisely what gave her such a headache.

“I—”

“Are you planning to watch us have sex?”

Ryan, who had not looked up once, suddenly spoke in a detached voice.

Margaret froze.

“What kind of thing is that to say?”

Ryan closed the tablet in his hand. His deep eyes remained calm and unreadable.

“Then why are you so concerned about it? Neither Rose nor I have any intention of doing that right now.”

Rose remained silent.

Instead, she gave a faint, ambiguous smile.

Only when this issue came up did Ryan finally speak.

Because it concerned the stability of his relationship with Samantha.

Before Margaret could respond, Ryan looked directly at her.

“Perhaps you should respect our decisions instead of forcing us.”

Margaret had been domineering her entire life. Being openly lectured by her own grandson immediately darkened her expression.

Her usual warmth vanished.

She stood up angrily.

“Why can’t we just live peacefully?”

Ryan leaned back slightly and casually glanced at Rose.

“Exactly. Why can’t we live in peace?”

A chill suddenly ran down Rose’s spine.

When she looked at him, Ryan had already stood up. His tall figure carried an overwhelming sense of authority.

“You should go home now.”

It was obvious that Margaret’s attempt at coercion had ended in complete failure.

She was furious.

Ryan appeared calm and easygoing, as though everything could be discussed, but in reality, no one could change his mind once he had made a decision.

This was practically the first time he had openly opposed Margaret on this matter.

He did not want children with Rose.

Nor did he want any ties that would bind them together.

Rose saw everything clearly.

Margaret stormed out in anger.

Meanwhile, Rose quietly breathed a sigh of relief.

Ryan went upstairs to change his clothes.

When he came back downstairs, Rose wanted to talk to him about Sky High.

But as he walked past her, his phone rang.

Rose didn’t look at the caller ID.

She didn’t need to.

The words that had been on the tip of her tongue disappeared once again.

“Did you want to talk to me about something?”

Ryan glanced at his phone and asked casually.

“No.”

Rose answered bluntly.

Ryan looked at her quietly for several seconds.

“As you wish.”

He turned and walked away.

Margaret followed behind him.

Rose felt both physically and mentally exhausted. She no longer had the energy to argue and simply went upstairs.

In truth, she could guess the reason behind Ryan’s firm stance today.

Ethan would soon be released from prison, and Samantha was undoubtedly feeling uneasy.

Ryan wanted to settle everything as quickly as possible, which was why he had rejected Margaret so bluntly.

He didn’t want any complications affecting his relationship with Samantha.

If Rose became pregnant before Ethan’s release, Margaret would never easily accept Samantha.

Rose returned to her room.

The luggage she had moved in remained untouched inside the walk-in closet.

She glanced at the suitcases before heading into the shower.

The next day was the weekend.
