Chapter 197: Chapter 197 Stolen Opportunities

Almost the moment Rose finished speaking, the office door swung open.

Even from the corner of her eye, the man’s tall, imposing figure was impossible to ignore.

Rose turned, her eyes turning cold.

Her gaze collided sharply with Ryan’s bottomless black eyes.

At his side stood Samantha, elegant and smiling.

A few steps behind them, Oliver was chatting with a middle-aged man in a white lab coat.

The group appeared remarkably harmonious, as though they had already reached a mutual understanding. Their laughter and conversation sounded especially clear.

Ryan paused slightly and glanced sideways at Rose.

Mike Blake, one of Angel Hospital’s senior executives, noticed Rose and immediately showed a trace of regret.

"Ms. Bennett, I’m terribly sorry. An urgent matter came up. Have you been waiting long?"

However, the apology carried very little sincerity.

Rose looked directly at him. "Are you available to discuss our partnership now?"

She was asking a question she already knew the answer to.

As expected, Director Blake’s expression became slightly awkward.

"I’m sorry, but regarding your company’s surgical robotic system, we’ve decided not to move forward for the time being. Our hospital has decided to adopt Miss Hill’s Smart Therapy equipment instead."

Rose wasn’t surprised.

Instead, she cast a cold glance toward Ryan.

The partnership with Director Blake had already been nearly finalized.

Yet at the last moment, they had been placed on hold and completely shut out of further negotiations.

She could think of no other explanation besides Ryan’s intervention.

Samantha noticed Rose’s frustration.

After all, very few people could remain calm after being ignored for over an hour without explanation.

She smiled slightly. "Director Blake and I have already reached an agreement. As for other smart medical equipment, Director Blake probably isn’t considering additional options anymore."

G.S.’s potential partner had been taken by Samantha.

This was the answer Rose had received.

Angel Hospital had been at the very top of G.S.’s list of potential partners.

The partnership would greatly benefit the promotion and adoption of their smart medical devices.

It would also directly impact the company’s final contract volume.

A crucial link in G.S.’s plans had been transferred to Samantha with Ryan’s assistance.

He was openly helping the other side.

If this had been fair competition, Rose wouldn’t have said a single word.

But Ryan had used his own connections and influence to cut off the partnership G.S. had nearly secured with Angel Hospital, including the final meeting that was supposed to finalize the agreement.

This was nothing short of stealing.

"Since you’d already decided to exclude G.S., why didn’t you notify us earlier?"

Rose’s expression had become unusually cold.

Ending a partnership only required a single phone call.

Yet she had been deliberately left waiting.

Director Blake disliked her aggressive tone and was about to respond.

However, Ryan spoke first. "If this referral partnership is so important to you, I can introduce G.S. to several other medical institutions."

His calm tone sounded like compensation offered after taking something away.

As though he were warning her not to be petty or unreasonable.

Rose stared at him in disbelief, nearly laughing from frustration.

"So Mr. Knight knows exactly what he’s doing."

Everyone knew the value of partnering with Angel.

He had taken the best resources and handed them to Samantha, only to compensate Rose with leftovers.

Ryan appeared completely unaffected by her sarcasm.

He stepped forward and slipped a business card into the inner pocket of her bag.

"If you need anything, contact them."

It felt like a handout.

As though he were casually dismissing her.

As though he wanted her to stop making trouble.

Samantha was clearly in an excellent mood.

Rose and G.S. had been rejected, while she had successfully signed with Angel Hospital.

Her Smart Therapy equipment would soon be introduced.

She glanced at Rose. "I know you’re eager to secure a promotion at G.S. by closing this deal and proving yourself, but these are decisions made by upper management. Sometimes you simply have to admit that you weren’t capable of closing the deal."

Rose’s eyes turned icy.

The accusation felt utterly ridiculous.

Angel Hospital had originally agreed to work with G.S.

Samantha had stepped in and taken the partnership.

Yet now Rose was being blamed for failing to secure it.

A faint smile appeared on Rose’s lips. "If Ryan weren’t pulling strings for you and promoting you, what qualifications do you have to be so proud? Depending on a man to make yourself look impressive—would you like me to order a congratulatory banner for you as well?"

Samantha’s expression immediately darkened.

Rose’s words had struck a nerve.

"Rose, there’s no need to take your anger out on me. It only makes you look like a sore loser."

As she spoke, she gently slipped her arm through Ryan’s.

Her tone sounded almost resigned.

Rose had no interest in arguing with her.

Angel Hospital had already made its decision.

There was no point wasting her breath.

However, whether it was to curry favor with Samantha or not, they had deliberately failed to notify her in advance and intentionally left her waiting.

She turned to leave.

At that moment, her phone rang.

After answering, the marketing manager said, "Several advertising placements we were supposed to sign today have encountered problems."

Rose immediately looked back at Ryan.

The man’s cold gaze met hers.

Their eyes locked.

Oliver clearly understood what was happening.

Crossing his arms, he said, "The advertising placements? That’s unfortunate. Sam’s Smart Therapy campaign is about to launch, and Ryan is heavily investing in it. He plans to purchase advertising space. Did your plans happen to overlap?"

He smiled. "Why don’t you talk things over with Sam? If you ask nicely, she might be willing to give up a spot or two. Then you can return to G.S. with at least some accomplishment."

After all, in his eyes, Rose was merely an ordinary R&D employee with limited prospects.

Unlike Samantha.

Samantha shot Oliver a playful look before raising her chin slightly and smiling at Rose.

She was waiting for Rose’s "kind words."

And everyone knew exactly what those words meant.

Begging.

Apologizing.

Lowering herself.

Rose understood perfectly.

This was a deliberate attempt to trample on her dignity.

And Ryan—

His expression remained cold and detached.

He showed no intention of intervening.

Rose let out a mocking laugh. "I’m afraid livestock can’t understand human language."

After delivering her insult, she turned and walked away without looking back.

Beg?

Her projects had never required her to beg anyone.

Oliver felt somewhat irritated.

That woman never backed down.

How could someone be so stubborn?

Samantha also looked down on Rose’s attitude.

In her eyes, Rose’s aggression simply came from frustration.

After all, Samantha was about to enter the most successful period of her career.

She smiled at Ryan. "Ryan, thank you for today. Would you like to have dinner together?"

Oliver clicked his tongue. "Just the two of you?"

Ryan turned toward the elevator.

"Sure."

Rose returned to G.S.

Caleb had already heard the news.

He frowned. "Did we offend Ryan somehow? The most important partnership on our list was taken away. This feels far too deliberate."

Rose placed her bag on the desk. "Probably. A while ago, I accidentally mentioned that Samantha is his sister-in-law. The gossip must have spread, and he’s likely been waiting for an opportunity to settle the score."

Since she was currently working at G.S., any open hostility toward her would naturally affect the company’s opinion of her.

They might even consider abandoning her.

They likely didn’t realize that she wasn’t merely an ordinary researcher.

She was the project’s lead developer.

Caleb noticed the business card that had fallen from Rose’s bag.

"This medical institution is foreign-owned. It’s only been operating in the United States for less than two years, so it isn’t very well known yet. But I’ve heard they’re willing to invest heavily in advanced equipment."

Only then did Rose look at it. "Ryan gave it to me."

"A slap followed by a piece of candy?"

Caleb frowned. "He gives Samantha the best resources available, but all he offers you is some obscure, second-tier institution?"
