Chapter 131: Chapter 131 A Chance Encounter in Hong Kong

Rose remembered Trevor mentioning it in passing.

She took out her phone and opened her WhatsApp chat with him. Two days earlier, he had shared his location somewhere near Victoria Harbour, and it seemed he was there discussing a business partnership.

He probably hadn’t returned to New York yet.

Still, it wouldn’t be appropriate to ask him directly. She didn’t want him to feel obligated to extend special treatment to her, which would only create unnecessary complications.

She put her phone away.

Rose then took out the DSLR camera she had brought specifically for this trip.

There were so many beautiful and interesting places to explore here. She planned to take plenty of photos and videos to show Ariel when she got back.

Soon afterward, Caleb called.

"I’ve sent the restaurant location to your phone. It’s going to be pretty lively tonight—I heard there’s even a performance. I’m heading over first to make arrangements. Just get there around seven."

"Okay. I’ll take the tram over," Rose replied.

After hanging up, she changed into a different outfit, grabbed her camera, and headed out.

Ryan had been nowhere to be found for the past two days.

Rose wasn’t entirely sure what was going on with the Knight family, but one thought lingered in her mind. If Ethan had truly resurfaced and become entangled with Samantha again, would Margaret finally be willing to stop dragging out the divorce proceedings?

She allowed herself a sliver of hope.

Once aboard the tram, Rose hesitated before calling Ryan.

It would be best to get the divorce finalized as soon as possible.

The phone rang.

And rang.

But Ryan never answered.

Exactly as expected.

He had never paid much attention to matters involving her.

Rose rubbed the bridge of her nose and let it go.

After arriving at the restaurant Caleb had reserved, she took the elevator directly to the rooftop terrace.

The restaurant was decorated in an exceptionally romantic style.

Unable to resist, Rose snapped a few photos.

She selected two of her favorites and posted them to her social media.

Just as she finished posting and was about to head toward their table, she heard a sweet female voice nearby.

"Ryan, I reserved the table with the best view. You’re going to love it."

Rose’s footsteps abruptly halted.

She turned toward the sound.

Two people stepped out of the elevator.

They nearly brushed past her.

Yet neither of them noticed she was there.

Samantha appeared to be in an excellent mood. As she walked, she casually brushed against the man beside her. The two of them walked side by side toward the same restaurant.

Rose truly hadn’t expected that Ryan’s disappearance over the past few days would be because he had brought Samantha to Hong Kong.

Was he trying to help her avoid Ethan?

Or was this simply a private getaway for the two of them?

What had happened after Ryan rushed out that night?

And how had he handled everything afterward?

The answer seemed obvious.

Rose pressed her lips together and let out a quiet, mocking laugh.

She could accept that Ryan was deeply in love with Samantha.

What she couldn’t accept was that he had neglected their divorce proceedings because of that love.

Lost in thought, she nearly missed the voice behind her.

"Rose."

She turned around.

Trevor had appeared out of nowhere.

Standing just behind her, he looked down at her with his narrow eyes. His handsome features remained cool and composed, drawing more than a few curious glances from women passing by.

"You’re here too? What a coincidence," Rose said in surprise.

A faint smile touched Trevor’s lips.

"I happened to be nearby meeting a business partner."

In reality, it wasn’t a coincidence at all.

He had seen Rose’s social media post and knew exactly which restaurant she was visiting.

He had even made a special detour from his business dinner to come here.

Unaware of this, Rose casually invited him.

"Would you like to join us for dinner later? Our company is having a team-building event here. But if you’re busy, that’s completely fine."

"I’m not busy."

Trevor crossed the distance between them in a few long strides.

"I haven’t had dinner yet."

Rose couldn’t help thinking that someone of his status was probably buried in work and likely skipped meals far too often.

"Why don’t you go ahead and sit down? I want to take a few more photos first. Caleb is over there, and the two of you know each other fairly well."

She gestured toward the dining area.

Trevor showed no intention of leaving.

"No rush. I’ll stay with you."

Rose gave him a suspicious look.

Stay with her?

To do what?

But she quickly arrived at her own conclusion.

It would probably be awkward for him to walk over alone.

After all, he wasn’t especially close to Caleb.

As for his relationship with her...

The child’s biological father and biological mother?

A blended family?

The thought nearly made Rose laugh out loud.

After suppressing her amusement, she said nothing more.

She simply raised her camera and focused on capturing the breathtaking night view.

Trevor followed a few steps behind her.

Surprisingly, he was incredibly patient.

When a man as calm and steady as Trevor said he would accompany her, he truly meant it.

He simply followed in silence.

Rose became so absorbed in taking photos that she nearly forgot he was even there.

Partway through, Trevor received a phone call.

He stepped aside to answer it.

Rose continued exploring and taking pictures on her own.

Then a series of excited gasps erupted ahead.

Many of the restaurant’s international guests were staring in one direction with expressions of delight and curiosity.

Assuming some sort of performance had begun, Rose followed the crowd to see what was happening.

But when she reached the source of the commotion, she froze.

The restaurant staff had just presented a large bouquet of roses to one of the tables.

Attractive people naturally drew attention wherever they went.

Holding the bouquet, Samantha smiled brightly at the man seated across from her.

"Ryan," she said sweetly, "thank you for coming to celebrate my birthday with me."
