Chapter 130: Chapter 130 Hong Kong and Unexpected Encounters
In the quiet suite, Ryan’s voice took on a teasing edge, scraping inch by inch against Rose’s already frayed nerves.
Her heart skipped a beat for no apparent reason.
She turned to look at him.
A shadow had already fallen across her vision. As the man strode toward her, his hand brushed lightly against the wall, and the room’s master light switch was turned off—seemingly by accident.
Only the ring of floor lamps beneath the large bed remained illuminated, preventing the suite from plunging into complete darkness.
Rose instinctively took two steps back, but her heel caught on the step beside the bed, and she nearly lost her balance.
Ryan reached out and wrapped an arm around her lower back.
Rose looked up and met his dark eyes. Emotions that were usually hidden beneath the surface now seemed ready to break free, though his expression remained unreadable. He gripped her wrist.
"Don’t fall."
The heat of his palm made Rose’s spine stiffen.
Caught off guard, she stared at him. "Ryan? Are you..."
Her gaze darted toward the drink that still carried a sweet, delicate fragrance.

Something was wrong with that drink.
Ryan’s brow furrowed deeply. His Adam’s apple bobbed sharply, yet he never loosened his grip on her.
Rose hurriedly pushed against his chest.
"How much have you had? Is there something in that drink?"
Many people had toasted Ryan that night.
Although no one dared pressure him to drink, there had been plenty of guests, and after countless rounds of toasts, he was already slightly intoxicated. If something else had been added on top of that, the consequences could be unimaginable.
"Go take a shower first and clear your head."
Rose’s expression darkened as she immediately offered a solution.
Ryan said nothing.
His towering frame radiated an overwhelming sense of pressure, and his breath felt scorching against her skin.
His pupils were slightly dilated as he stared at her. His gaze traced her brows and eyes before drifting slowly to her lips, closing the distance inch by inch.
"Ryan! Look at me. Do you know who I am?"
His long fingers brushed lightly through her hair as he murmured in a low voice, "Baby?"
Clearly, he was already losing his grip on reality.
Furious, Rose raised her free hand and slapped him.
Yet her strength was insignificant compared to his. The blow barely registered as he effortlessly pushed her onto the bed.
Her body bounced against the mattress, and before she could react, he was already above her.
His lips instinctively sought hers.
Rose turned her head away.
His scorching lips landed on her jaw instead.
One of his hands found the hidden zipper at the small of her back with alarming ease.
A chill ran down Rose’s spine.
The butterfly-wing brooches pinned to their chests brushed against one another, fitting together perfectly like a complete pair of wings.
Rose’s face darkened.
Unable to break free, she fought with all her strength, but every struggle proved useless.
Her eyes reddened, and tears unexpectedly slid down her cheeks.
She raised her hand again and struck him.
"Ryan! I don’t want this! Don’t touch me!"
Lying beneath him, she had little strength left.
The slap carried almost no force.

To an outsider, it might have looked more like a lover’s touch than an act of resistance.
Yet Ryan’s movements slowed.
The haze in his eyes gradually cleared.
What greeted him were Rose’s tear-filled eyes.
She wasn’t sad.
She wasn’t ashamed.
She wasn’t heartbroken.
She was furious.
And she looked at him with undisguised disgust.
Ryan stared at her silently.
He made no further move.
Without any visible emotion, he raised a hand and gently wiped away the tears at the corners of her eyes.
Then he stopped.
At that moment, his phone rang.
Ryan closed his eyes briefly before fumbling for the phone and answering it without even looking at the screen.
Rose lay beneath him and could almost hear Samantha’s tearful voice through the receiver.
"Ryan, come find me. Ethan is out of prison. He has two days of leave, and he’s coming to find me..."
Almost instantly, the weight above Rose disappeared.
Ryan had already stood up.
Though his steps were unsteady from the lingering effects of alcohol and whatever had been slipped into his drink, he walked away without looking back.
He didn’t spare Rose another glance.
The entire thing happened so quickly that it felt unreal.
As though it had all been a hallucination.
Rose’s heartbeat still hadn’t returned to normal.
The air remained heavy with the suggestive scent of roses from the scented candles.
And the faint fragrance of rose and mint that lingered on Ryan.
His instinctive response to Samantha had reached an extreme.
Even when barely conscious, even while staggering from the effects of alcohol and medication, even at a moment like that, he had still managed to pull himself away and force himself to stay alert.
Rose hurriedly wiped the tears from her eyes.
A mocking smile curved her lips.
She couldn’t bear to remain in that room any longer.
Rose didn’t care that it was pouring outside.
She straightened her clothes, grabbed her purse, and walked out.
The roads were treacherous in the rain.

It took her more than two hours to return to Moon Lake Villa.
She had nowhere else to go.
The reason she came back was simple—she knew Ryan wouldn’t be returning.
He had his hands full.
Ethan had been granted temporary leave.
He had probably learned about Samantha’s betrayal, and the resulting conflict wouldn’t be minor.
Things were bound to become chaotic.
Even though Ryan had been drugged, he had still forced himself to leave and rush to Samantha’s side.
He truly was devoted.
Rose had seen firsthand how selflessly Ryan loved someone.
As for that bottle of wine...
She could guess what had happened.
After all, it had been Mathew’s birthday banquet. Even if something had gone wrong, no one would make a public issue of it. They would simply handle it quietly and move on.
Rose had only just returned home when Margaret called.
"Rose, what is wrong with you? You couldn’t even keep Ryan for yourself—you let someone else take him?"
Margaret was clearly furious.
Her tone was openly accusatory.
Rose wasn’t surprised.
"His legs are his own. Even your carefully laid plans didn’t work. What makes you think I could have done any better?" she replied flatly.
"You foolish girl. Men are most vulnerable at times like this. If you’d used a few tricks, wouldn’t he have surrendered?" Margaret snapped.
Rose almost laughed.
What a pity.
Margaret had underestimated Ryan.
His self-control had always been exceptional.
And once Samantha’s call came in, there was no chance he would have stayed.
The conversation ended on a sour note.
Rose understood why.
Margaret must have known beforehand that Ethan had been granted leave. She had probably intended to keep Ryan by her side to force a confrontation between Ethan and Samantha—or perhaps even rekindle old feelings between them.
Rose couldn’t be bothered to think about it.
Either way, she was merely a pawn being used.
She had no desire to involve herself in the Knight family’s affairs.

As expected, Ryan didn’t return home for the next two days.
And considering he had left that night under the influence of both alcohol and medication, if he had gone to Samantha...
Rose could easily imagine the outcome.
It wasn’t a pleasant thought.
But aside from disgust, she no longer cared.

G.S.’s team-building trip was scheduled to take place in Hong Kong.
The group departed together for their destination.
Caleb had already reserved a restaurant where everyone would gather that evening.
After receiving her room key, Rose returned to her hotel room.
Standing by the window, she suddenly remembered something.
Wasn’t Trevor in Hong Kong on a business trip as well?
