On the first day of the semester, most students weren’t in the mood to study. The classroom was a chaotic mix of chatting, gaming, and phone-scrolling, with the noise drowning out the instructor’s lecture.

Even Wen Yang looked distracted, clearly not paying attention.

Ning Chu leaned closer, whispering, “So what now? Are you really giving up being class president?”

“When the time comes, I’ll go with you to the office. Don’t lose that fur ball from Hei Dou; that ghost girl is scared of it.”

The original storyline involving An’an had long been disrupted, but that only meant she was now beyond the story’s control. Who knew what unpredictable actions she might take?

“It’s better than dealing with a ghost every day,” Wen Yang agreed. “Besides, I need to hand over the collected student IDs to the ghost.”

“Quiet! Quiet down!”

The instructor at the front finally couldn’t take it anymore, slapping the desk in frustration. The classroom instantly fell silent.

Startled, Ning Chu quickly straightened up, folding her arms on the desk like an obedient elementary school student.

Sitting in the front row, her wide, anxious eyes darted around.

Huh? Why is Lily’s face so red?

Only then did she notice Lily’s flushed cheeks as she stared at her textbook, looking like she was trying to ignore something.

Noticing Ning Chu’s gaze, Lily glanced back at her with watery eyes, quickly biting her lip and silently returning to her doodles.

Ning Chu snuck a glance at Wen Yang, realizing what might be going on with Lily.

As expected of Lily—her willpower was impressive.

If Ning Chu hadn’t faced similar situations herself, she might have thought Lily was just feeling unwell.

Suppressing a laugh, Ning Chu’s thoughts turned to herself. Lily could maintain a poker face in public even when feeling... well, heated. But Ning Chu? She’d collapse against the desk, breathing heavily, unable to keep her composure.

Worse, now that she’d had a taste of the real thing, her reactions would likely be even stronger, maybe even to the point where she’d lose control in class, acting shamelessly with Wen Yang...

No way! That would be social suicide!

Wait a second! This feels familiar...

In her little romance novel, the male lead once noticed Lily struggling in class with her desires. She’d almost managed to keep her composure until he teased her, breaking her restraint, and they ended up secretly indulging in the back of the classroom.

It wasn’t limited to classrooms—she’d written similar scenarios in libraries, buses, and even restaurants. It was thrilling on paper, but Ning Chu could never actually do something like that!

Thankfully, Wen Yang had no interest in Lily, but unfortunately, she might end up in Lily’s place as the protagonist of that particular plotline.

Ning Chu shot a wary look at Wen Yang. Who knew? One day he might get a little too bold and...

“What’s wrong?” Wen Yang glanced at her, misinterpreting her expression. He lowered his voice, trying to explain, “I swear, I wasn’t even thinking about anything weird.”

He tugged his coat down, attempting to cover up ❀ Nоvеlігht ❀ (Don’t copy, read here) his... response.

“Pervert...”

“This is your fault, isn’t it?”

Having spent a lot of time with her, Wen Yang was well aware that a succubus’s pheromones were an irresistible toxin to men. “You’re just sitting way too close to me.”

“Tch~”

Just after ten in the morning, the bell signaled the end of the class. The instructor breathed a sigh of relief, gathering his materials and making a quick exit as students clamored toward the door.

Lily seemed to have recovered, but Yan Xinya was still whispering teasing remarks into her ear.

“This is the only class this morning,” Wen Yang said, checking the schedule. “We’ve got gym and career planning in the afternoon.”

“Let’s check out that new cafeteria,” Ning Chu suggested. “I saw a new fast-food place; maybe it’s open by now.”

Zhang Shaoqing popped up suddenly. “Hey! Ning Chu, wanna go out for dinner tonight? My treat!”

“No, thanks.”

“What? It’s the first night back; don’t you want a dorm dinner? We’ll eat, hit up karaoke, and there’ll even be girls to drink with you...”

Ning Chu pointed to Qian Qian waiting in the hallway.

Zhang Shaoqing’s face instantly fell. “Fine. Another time.”

With a resigned sigh, he forced a smile and made his way toward Qian Qian in the hallway.

“Ning Chu, let’s go.”

“Mm.” Ning Chu quickly got up, trailing behind Wen Yang as they headed down the hall. “Slow down a bit!”

Wen Yang adjusted his pace, smirking. “With legs as short as yours, you’d never make it if you had to run.”

“Short?! My legs are perfectly proportional! You’re just tall.”

“Uh-huh, sure.”

Bantering, they reached the fourth floor of the academic building, scanning door numbers to find the ghost’s office.

As they got closer, the air seemed to grow colder and eerier.

“Feels like we’re in a horror movie where the characters make all the wrong choices,” Wen Yang murmured, eyes scanning for a makeshift weapon.

“Relax. She’s a playful ghost, not a vengeful spirit,” Ning Chu mumbled. “Besides, it’s broad daylight. She shouldn’t be able to do anything, right?”

Ning Chu tried to look calm, but standing at the door marked “404,” she felt her resolve waver.

  1. The number was ominous—symbolizing both death and nonexistence.Would she and Wen Yang end up as ill-fated lovers here? Or worse, would she have to watch helplessly as her boyfriend got his energy drained by a ghost?

Unconsciously, Ning Chu took a step back, hiding behind Wen Yang.

Wen Yang wasn’t feeling particularly brave either, but with his girlfriend standing behind him, there was no way he could back down.

He hesitated, raising his hand to knock when a gust of cold wind blew by, and the door creaked open just a crack.

Goosebumps rose on his skin as a chill ran down his spine, cold sweat gathering at the back of his neck.

He glanced over his shoulder, only to find that Ning Chu had already retreated a few meters, ready to flee.

“With my short legs, I need a head start, right?”

“What kind of logic is that?”

Both turned sharply at the sound of a voice, spotting their advisor, An’an, emerging from the restroom, looking at them in confusion.

“Why do you two look like you’ve seen a ghost?” An’an asked, amused. “Am I really that scary?”

    “You are a ghost!”

Ning Chu quickly darted back behind Wen Yang, peeking out cautiously.

Better to stay close to the main character’s protective aura!

“Unbelievable,” An’an sighed, rolling her eyes as she walked past them toward the office. “I’m a good ghost—working a steady job, contributing to society, kind and compassionate. I don’t eat people!”

“I’m practically a saint. I even counsel sad boys sometimes. Everyone says I’m the nicest ghost around.”
