Chapter 234: Chapter Two Hundred And Thirty Three

Camilla glared up at him, looking furious.

She spoke. Her voice was sharp, loud, and full of deep disbelief.

"Are you insane?" Camilla asked him, her voice cutting through the heavy silence like a sharp knife.

She pointed a shaking finger down at the floor, where Allen was currently coughing and struggling to breathe.

"Do you want to kill him?" Camilla demanded angrily. "He is your own family!"

Damon stared down at her furious face. The red curtain of blind rage had been lifted from his dark brown eyes. His mind, which had been poisoned by jealousy, finally started working properly again. He realized he was standing in a public store. He realized he had just violently attacked his own younger cousin.

Damon slowly lowered his hand from his red cheek. He looked lost.

"I...I am sorry." Damon stammered. His deep voice was very low and slightly rough. "I... I..."

He could not finish his sentence. He could not find a single word to explain his crazy, violent behavior. He felt a sudden, deep sense of shame washing over him.

On the floor, Allen was still trying to recover.

Allen leaned heavily against the edge of the large display table. He rubbed his bruised, red neck with both of his shaking hands.

He looked up at Damon with wide, terrified eyes.

"I don’t know what you were talking about, cousin," Allen spoke softly. His throat was dry and scratchy from being choked so hard. He coughed slightly. "But I didn’t do anything. I swear."

Camilla looked at Allen, and then she looked back at Damon’s guilty face.

Her brain quickly processed the wild accusations Damon had shouted just a few moments ago. She remembered Damon yelling, ’You dare seduce your sister-in-law in broad daylight? You dare covet what’s mine?’

Camilla crossed her arms over her chest. She glared at Damon with disgust. She thought to herself. Her internal voice was filled with offended disbelief.

"Did he actually think I was having a secret affair with his cousin?" Camilla thought, staring at Damon’s red cheek.

She let out a loud, silent scoff inside her mind. She shuddered internally at the ridiculous idea.

"Ewwww!" Camilla complained in her thoughts, her mind completely disgusted. "Why would I ever do something so stupid and messy? Allen is a nice boy, but he is certainly not my type."

She stood up even straighter, lifting her chin proudly.

"Why will I cheat on him when I can easily get everything I want from him directly?" Camilla reasoned internally, her mind extremely practical. "He just gave me a chest filled with gold coins. He promised me a working gold mine. He gave me complete authorization over his secret training arena. Cheating would ruin my perfect, wealthy setup. It is a completely bad business decision."

She shook her head slightly.

"Besides," Camilla continued her proud thoughts, "I have self-respect. I am a professional. I do not play dirty, dramatic love games in the middle of an important business."

Damon stood quietly. He heard her entire disgusted mental rant. He heard her say ’Ewwww’ at the thought of cheating on him with Allen. He heard her list all the logical reasons why an affair was completely impossible.

A heavy, painful rock of humiliation dropped straight into Damon’s stomach. He realized how entirely, utterly foolish he had been.

Damon looked down at the floor. He could not meet her angry gaze.

Damon spoke. His deep voice was low, filled with genuine shame and deep regret.

"I thought you two..." Damon started to say, trying to explain his misunderstanding.

Camilla did not let him finish his sentence. She raised her hand sharply, cutting him short immediately.

"Well, you thought wrong," Camilla snapped out loud, her voice entirely flat and unforgiving.

She turned her body slightly. She gestured her hand widely toward the center of the large room. She pointed at the long table that was covered with huge, colorful rolls of expensive fabric. She pointed at the small, written paper tags attached to the silk and cotton.

"Allen is the one I have business with in the lower city," Camilla explained clearly, speaking to Damon as if he were a very slow, very foolish child.

She pointed at her younger brother-in-law, who was finally managing to stand up slowly from the floor.

"I invested my own money in his store," Camilla continued, making sure every single word was clear. "Our first shipment of southern fabrics arrived yesterday. We were standing here preparing to start sorting them by color and price. That is why I was laughing. We were discussing the new display windows."

Damon slowly turned his head. He looked at the large table.

He saw the beautiful blue silk. He saw the thick, sturdy cotton. He saw the small, neat paper tags written with prices.

The reality of the situation crashed down on Damon like a crushing wave.

There was no secret rendezvous. There was no affair. There was only a smart, capable woman helping his cousin build a legitimate, honest business. And he had just barged in and nearly committed a brutal murder over absolutely nothing.

Damon looked back at his terrified cousin. He looked at the dark red marks around Allen’s neck.

Damon swallowed hard. The anonymous letter he had received at the military camp had lied to him. Or rather, he had let his own blind jealousy misinterpret the letter.

But a dark, heavy question still burned deeply in Damon’s mind. The most important question of all.

Damon frowned. He looked at Allen.

"So," Damon asked his cousin, his deep voice carrying a tone of confusion. "You are not Winston?"

Allen blinked his eyes rapidly. He rubbed his sore throat gently. He looked at Damon as if the General had completely lost his mind.

"Who is Winston?" Allen asked softly, his voice full of bewilderment. He had no idea what name the General was talking about.

Damon stared at Allen. He saw the lack of recognition in his cousin’s face. Allen was definitely not the Winston he is looking for.

Damon slowly turned his head back. He looked at Camilla.

His dark brown eyes were full of painful desperation. He needed to know the truth. He needed to know the identity of the man who had stolen her heart.

Damon asked the question that had been torturing him, burning his soul, and keeping him awake.

"Who is the ’Winston’ you call out to in your dreams?" Damon demanded quietly, his voice rough with hidden emotion.

The fabric store went silent once again.

Standing near the door, Kade stopped breathing. The loyal aide leaned forward slightly, eager to hear the answer. Kade had spent days secretly investigating that name.

Allen’s eyes widened in surprise. He looked quickly at Camilla. He did not know she was calling out another man’s name while sleeping next to his cousin. It was highly scandalous.

Camilla was still.

She heard the name ’Winston’. She looked at Damon’s desperate, pained expression.

Camilla frowned very deeply. Her delicate eyebrows pulled tightly together in the center of her forehead.

She looked highly offended.

"His name," Camilla spoke out loud, her voice strict, serious, and full of demand, "is Sir Winston Hudson."

She lifted her chin proudly. She glared at Damon, ordering him to show proper respect.

"Say his name with respect," Camilla commanded firmly.

Damon felt a sharp, bitter pain twist violently in his chest. She was actually defending the man. She was demanding respect for her secret lover. He felt like his heart was breaking into pieces.

Camilla did not stop speaking. She crossed her arms over her chest again.

"He is my fur baby," Camilla stated clearly, her voice softening just a tiny bit with genuine affection.

She looked into Damon’s wide, dark eyes.

"He is my tabby cat," Camilla announced.

The silence in the room was absolute.

Damon froze.

Kade froze.

Allen froze.

None of the three men moved a single muscle. Their brains stopped processing human language.

Damon stared at her. His jaw slowly dropped open. His dark brown eyes widened to their absolute maximum limit.

"Winston..." Damon stammered out loud, his deep voice cracking in half. "...is a cat?"
