Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Packing Medicine

The person standing in front of her almost gave her a heart attack.

If not because she had gotten a glimpse of his smiling face, she might have grabbed a random wooden box and smashed him with it.

He is so irritating, Ye Lingyue thought, especially with that wide smile on his face. She was convinced this person had some problem in his head now.

"What?" She replied almost snarkily.

His smile grew wider, and then soon faded. His eyes glanced at her from head to toe. "Are you hurt anywhere?"

Ye Lingyue had to admit she wasn’t good at pretending to be a fool, so she decided to drop the pretense in front of him. If only one person is aware of it, it shouldn’t be a problem, right?

She was confident she could use her fists to shut him up.

"Of course not. Am I so clumsy I would get hurt?" She rolled her eyes and ignored him, rummaging through the medicine boxes and reading their description one by one.

There were simply too many of them. This Minister of Rites unexpectedly was quite rich.

"Eldest Brother makes a lot of money for us," Ye Lingrui explained as if he could read her mind.

Ye Lingyue’s expression cracked, turning gloomy. She turned around, putting her hands on her hips and began to examine the young man in front of her.

A face that was strikingly similar to her modern facial features. She hadn’t bothered to take a closer look and examined him before, but now that she has, she had to admit he was her male version.

She subconsciously touched her face, realizing something wrong. If Ye Lingrui bore so much resemblance to her modern face, does that mean the body she was currently occupying also had her modern face?

Her breathing couldn’t help but quicken a little.

Everything just seemed so wrong; they all didn’t make sense. How could she, a soul from the modern world, somehow have fallen into a body so similar to her modern identity?

"What kind of medicine is Yue’er looking for? Let me help you." Ye Lingrui’s gentle voice pulled her out of her thoughts.

She pursed her lips and looked away awkwardly after their eyes met. Ye Lingrui somehow had moved to stand beside her.

"Any useful and rare medicine, grab it if you see any," she muttered.

With Ye Lingrui around, she couldn’t stuff them inside her space storage, but she believed that she could find a chance to stuff them inside later.

Then, only the sounds of medicine boxes being pulled open remained in the room. And occasional footsteps as the two moved around.

She couldn’t help but glance at Ye Lingrui. The man unexpectedly knew so much about medicine.

Every box he grabbed would reveal carefully preserved, rare herbs. He seemed to know already where these herbs were kept, signalling he frequented this place.

"Do you not find it strange that I suddenly recovered?" Ye Lingyue couldn’t help but open her mouth, breaking the silence between them. "I was a fool who would clap at every word you say. Then, overnight, I became someone with... this kind of personality."

She was aware she sometimes couldn’t restrain her temper well, and she had to channel it in another way like learning martial arts. Perhaps it was such potential that made the System choose her as its host.

Her personality and skill matched Shen Wuqing quite well.

She died on her way to work, right the day when she was about to be promoted. Then, she woke up as the young Shen Wuqing.

Shen Wuqing’s father was a meritorious general and loyal to the country.

Ever since she was little, Shen Wuqing had learned how to wield weapons, hunting in the wild as she followed her father and elder brother around.

She spent a few years on the border, where her father was stationed. After General Shen pushed back the enemy troops who were creating trouble at the border, making them suffer great losses, he was summoned by the Emperor to return to the capital.

"What’s so strange about it?" Ye Lingrui lifted his eyebrows. "My sister has returned, shouldn’t I be happy?"

Ye Lingyue had a strange feeling in her heart.

She hurriedly shook her head and glared at him, telling herself to remain sober. She demanded, "What do you mean by that?"

"Do you believe in some Taoist Master? What if it’s just a scammer?" She snorted.

"The Taoist Master isn’t a scammer," Ye Lingrui told her, shaking his head.

Ye Lingyue glanced at him weirdly again. It was just less than an hour since they last met, but this mysterious and inexplicable feeling she got from him was even more pronounced now.

Her eyebrows knitted together. "Oh? What if it’s not your sister who returned, but an evil spirit who has seized her body?"

"Are you an evil spirit?" Ye Lingrui asked meaningfully.

Ye Lingyue twitched her mouth. Because... she might as well be one.

She snorted again, and waved her hand. "Whatever then, you are quite a stubborn and superstitious one."

He followed after her as she moved around the room. She lifted her eyebrows and decided to use him to stuff all the precious herbs into the huge box he was carrying.

She guessed that his previous persona was not a genuine one—he had shown a faint tinge of worry before; at least about the eldest one, Ye Zhiqiu, and... her.

He didn’t seem truly worried about the Ye family... or was it her illusion?

His face looked completely relaxed right now, almost playful.

She decided to stop walking and turned around to face him. "Listen, since you know that I have completely recovered now... don’t tell anyone about it, alright?"

"If I see anyone finding out about it..." She trailed off and raised her hand, making a neck slashing gesture with it and continued fiercely. "I will hold you accountable for it. Do you understand?"
