Chapter 293: Sienna won another round.
When Elias went outside, the whole family was waiting. The doctor had already shared the tragic news, and the relatives were sad, as expected. The doctor had left to check on Numia, so Lenard could not even interrogate the man deeply.
The lion beast man settled for pulling Elias aside and glaring at the fox lord. "She is not pregnant," he hissed. "Stop this drama right now. I am not taking the blame for a fake miscarriage."
Elias shrugged, and replied smugly, "That is not what the doctor says. Now when you return to your master, you can tell him that he doesn’t have to hold his breath waiting for a fox cub to be born. We have witnesses that saw the blood, relatives who are in tears, and a doctor’s report. It was a miscarriage, you cannot contradict it. I am afraid your interrogation will have to end here. In light of these circumstances, our uncle Jorik would like to withdraw his bid for the position of next Prime Envoy. Find some other family to torture."
Lenard growled, frustration etched into every line of his face. His authority had been undermined, his interrogation derailed by a single cry and a few drops of blood.
The relatives, meanwhile, whispered among themselves, their panic giving way to relief. And yet, Mrs. Miller’s cries could still be heard loud and clear, as if she was hiding near a window, and crying for the whole world to hear.
"My child, my child....you frightened me so. There will be another cub, the gods have called this one."
Her voice was raw with emotion. Even the relatives who knew it was all false doubted themselves for a moment. Servants were rushing in and out of the cottage, carrying basins of water mixed with fake blood by the agents.
Grandma Jess was loudly instructing the cooks to prepare nourishing soup. They were banging on the pots loudly, as if they were preparing a symphony, rather than food.
Lenard winced. "They are doing this deliberately, aren’t they?" He grabbed Elias cloak, gritting his teeth.
Elias snorted, and threw off Lenard’s hands. "You are losing control Lenny lion. This is not the you that I know. Get your head back in the game. I heard there is trouble brewing in the coastal city of Green Haven. Rebel remnant kind of trouble. Instead of wasting time on my wife and the unfortunate death of a falcon lord, you should be focusing on things that actually matter."
Lenard gulped. "What are you talking about?"
Elias smirked. "I won’t do your work for you because I am not paid to do it." He stepped back and looked around, his presence commanding. He addressed the agents and soldiers around with cold authority. "You all have five minutes to withdraw from my home. My wife has had a miscarriage. It’s not your fault, the pregnancy was already unstable. The doctor had already warned us about the possibility of this happening. But, even though it is not your fault, I believe my wife has suffered enough. She has been frightened enough. No one will question her any further or go near her. Do you understand?" His gaze swept across them, daring anyone to defy him.
None did. The weight of his words settled over them like a decree carved in stone.
Lenard looked back at the house one final time, and gestured to his people. "Move out. We have enough information."
His conclusion was one: Sienna Miller- Veythar was a dangerous schemer. She had turned an interrogation into spectacle, transforming vulnerability into power. The agents were silenced, and the king owed the Veythar’s now.
Anyone that heard of her miscarriage which was a result of the questioning would naturally feel aggrieved for her. They would feel sorry for her family. The King would make amends and Veythar’s authority would be reinforced in the royal court thanks to her fake miscarriage. Her lie now shaped the narrative.
When they left, Geo pulled the doctor aside. "What happened to Lady Sienna? I smelled real blood in the fake one. Did they really use physical force while interrogating her?"
The doctor scratched the back of his head. He could not go around talking about Sienna’s period, it was a deeply personal thing. The fox lord would rip his head off if he said anything other than miscarriage. If the wolf beast man wanted to know more, he would have to find out on his own.
"It was a miscarriage." He said, repeating the same words he had said to Lenard.
Geo grabbed his arm, narrowing his eyes at the doctor. "She is a friend, I am not an outsider. I just want to know if she is going to be okay."
The doctor nodded. "She is more than okay."
It was all Geo needed to know, so he dropped the doctor’s hand.
Back in the bedroom, Sienna was just hearing the news about Numia’s stomach pain. Her mother was narrating it with a sneer on her lips. "The doctor said there was nothing wrong with her but he had to claim that she had suffered a scare and needed bed rest."
Sienna snarled, "That crazy lunatic, she could have ruined everything for me. I can’t believe she is dreaming of sending her son to the king’s bed." She huffed slowly, "What are we going to do with her? We need to come up with a way to control her before Uncle Jorik is officially appointed or the queen decides to become unfriendly."
"Fingers crossed he doesn’t get the job." Mrs. Miller whispered.
She whispered because the Rocland’s were excited for the opportunity, but it seemed to be causing more stress than Sienna anticipated.
"Maybe I should advocate for her divorce as actively as I am advocating for Lady Cadelaria’s divorce." Sienna suggested.
Elias cleared his throat.
Sienna rolled her eyes. "I am not going to pretend for your sake Elias. You know who you married."
He raised his brows thinking that he did not. The old Sienna, that he married, would never have dared to extend her hands to his parents marriage with such brazenness. But, it was not his business; mostly. His parents were the ones to make the final decision on that matter.
"Did you hear what your aunt said about me?" Her mother asked, crossing her arms on her chest. "I can’t believe that I have been smiling and dining with a woman whose aspiration is to slap me!"
Elias took that as his cue to leave. Sienna almost begged him to take her along. Luckily, the kids were allowed to visit her because Ali was about to cry. It put an end to the start of her mother’s rant.
As night fell, the compound buzzed with whispers. The queen, the queen dowager and a few royals had visited in the afternoon. Many gifts had trickled into the house, filling up every storage and they were still coming. Apologies were offered, along with Jorik’s appointment letter. It was safe to say that Sienna had won this round.
