Chapter 270: Tales of bullying.
Soren raised his hands, like a criminal that had been caught on the spot, doing something bad. His heart was pounding rapidly, which he couldn’t understand, because he was not the party in wrong.
The female teacher that had introduced herself as Mrs. Sprouse, and Soren’s home room teacher rushed into the classroom, her face pale, her hands clutching a stack of papers tightly. "Lady Sienna, I...."
The door burst open before she could utter any more words. Sienna’s falcon relatives and her cousins stormed like a gust of wind. Their eyes were sharp, and their presence commanding. Corven Junior, the oldest of the children stood taller and broader than the rest. He bore fresh marks across his face, red streaks and swelling that spoke of s fight not long past.
He didn’t hesitate. He bowed his head slightly, his voice heavy with guilt. "Sienna, cousin, I failed," he said, his tone raw. "I failed to protect Soren and the younger ones."
Sienna looked at the younger ones as her relatives raised their voices, loud and angry. The younger ones looked okay. so she couldn’t understand what he was talking about.
"What happened?" she demanded, her voice trembling between fury and fear.
Corven Junior’s jaw tightened.
"You better not hide anything from me or else I am going to turn this whole school upside down and then close it down." She looked at the teacher. "Permanently."
Corven Junior clenched his hands, "There’s an older boy. He has been leading other to pick on Soren. They have been whispering about how he doesn’t belong here, that he comes from human trash and poverty. That he is not worthy to be here like the full blooded beast men from true beast tribes. But, things had never escalated like this before. Today, they cornered him in the bathroom. When I heard about it, I rushed over and fought them off, but...." He touched the bruises on his face. "I could shield him from fists, but I couldn’t shield him from their words."
Sienna’s eyes narrowed. "Explain why you didn’t come to me earlier."
Corven’s voice grew sharper and angrier. "This boy, Danny Risser, he is not just any bully. He is the grandson of the Prime Envoy Lord Brice Risser."
The Prime Envoy was like the prime minister back on earth.
"The teachers can’t touch him." Corven snapped. "He bullies other kids, the one on scholarships and they look away. They pretend its nothing. They protect him because of who his grandfather is."
Mrs. Sprouse, who had been standing frozen, suddenly rushed forward, her words tumbling out in panic. "It’s not like that. Lady Sienna, I can explain. There was a misunderstanding between them but we have already handled it. Children quarrel, they exaggerate--"
But Corven Junior cut her off, his voice rising like a blade. "No! It is not a misunderstanding. You are protecting him because you are afraid of the power behind him. Do you want me to list the incidents? Last week, I made a report with you of all the ways my cousin has suffered while you acted blind."
Sienna’s stomach twisted. "Tell me," she ordered.
Soren grabbed Corven Junior’s hand to stop him. But Corven had tolerated all he could. So what if Danny was the grandson of the Prime Envoy? They had the backing of the fox lord and the queen. Having the queen meant having the king. "Three days after we joined school, they locked him in the football club’s locker room after class and stole his uniform. He was trapped in there naked until I came to his rescue.
Two weeks ago, they stole his books and threw them into the pond behind the herb garden. He had to wade in waist-deep to retrieve them. Do you know how cold it was? And just this week, one of them pretended to spill cleaning soap on the floor and pushed him down the stairs. He didn’t want to go home with a limp because he knew cousin Sienna would see, so I took him to a hospital before we went home.
And it’s not just Corven anymore. Danny has people mocking all our younger cousins now. They have been mocked, shoved, excluded. Always in secret. Always when no teacher is watching. Those cowards know very well that they will be in trouble if what they are doing gets out."
Mrs. Sprouse’s face drained of color. "I...I didn’t know..."
Sienna’s fury ignited like a fire in her veins and she not the only one. The anger was shared by the rest of her relatives. Linera was ready to kill the teacher right where she was standing.
"You didn’t want to know," Corven spat at the teacher. "I came to you and you didn’t care to help."
Sienna raised her hand, her voice ringing with authority. "Enough! Guards!"
Her personal guards, stationed outside the classroom stormed in at once. Linera fell into step with them, with eyes like steel, ready to join them in action.
Sienna’s command was swift, merciless. "Send out my orders. Lock down the roads or air space leading away from the school, if they have already left. Bring me the boy. Bring me his parents. Bring them to our compound. I don’t care if you have to drag them. If you have to kidnap them, do it. Just bring them to the compound. I will settle this myself."
Mrs. Sprouse gasped, horrified. "You can’t--"
But Sienna wasn’t done. "Corven, name every teacher that looked away and round them up too. Tie them like livestock, and bring them to the compound."
Corven replied loudly, "Yes." He grabbed Mrs. Sprouse first because he blamed her the most.
The guards moved with precision, their boots echoing against the floor as they departed. Aunt Linera gave Sienna a single nod, her expression unreadable, before following them out. Soren and the young cousins stood silently, their bodies trembling with the weight of what had just been unleashed. Surely, Sienna was going to whip their butts at home for hiding this. They had been trying to protect her, and not burden her at the same time. In the end, they had not accomplished anything.
