Chapter 258: Mija’s grudge leads to lies.
Ali stretched her hands, her wide teary eyes clinging to Elias. "Papa," she whimpered.
Elias took her, patting her back as gently as he could.
"She wants my bee." Ali reported in a whisper, "She tried to take me too. We are in danger."
Elias growled. "Who? Who dares lay hand on my child and her bee?"
Sienna drew her brows close in a frown. The idea that it was actually her bee crossed her mind, but she didn’t voice it immediately. Anyway, that was not what mattered currently. Getting rid of this woman was more important.
The guards shoved Jane forward, her arrogance faltering under the weight of so many eyes.
Jesse pushed the guards aside, while Jess raised a hand, signaling silence.
"Speak human. And pray your words justify your life." The older woman growled. Her voice cut through the tense silence like a blade. Her claws were so close to Jane’s face, nearly injuring the teacher. "You dare kidnap my granddaughter and her bee? You must be possessed. If your explanation does not make sense, I am going to cut your tongue out with my very claws."
Jane stuttered, her arrogance crumbling under the weight of Jess’s gaze. "I...I wasn’t trying to kidnap the cub. I only came to remind Sienna Miller of her roots...to ask for support for the school..."
Mija piped up with the glee of a tattling child. The way she stared at Jane, it was if they had been enemies for ten lifetimes. "She asked for more than that. She demanded for fifty million from the Veythar family, free lunches, honey and the bee, as the young miss Ali reported. She wanted to bee paraded around like a circus act!" Her forked tongue flicked mischievously. "And she said Sienna should build her a house like the palace, decorated with treasures of the fox tribe. She even whispered about cutting one of the fox lord’s tails and using it as a decoration. Can you imagine?"
Gasps filled the air. Elder Mini slammed her cane on the ground. The Benali’s exchanged horrified looks, their divorce completely forgotten altogether. The court clerk looked at her notes, wondering if she had missed something. The newly arrived guards muttered curses, itching to act.
Jess growled dangerously.
Jane’s face turned pale. "I didn’t. I never said..I..."
Mija interrupted gleefully, piling on more exaggerations. "She wanted the royal artisans to paint the school. She demanded that they abandon their work for the king and tend to her needs first. She said Grand Lady Jess should hand over all her jewelry to be auctioned at the reunion she is forcing Sienna to attend. And she said all of Sienna’s honey should go to the school going forward, to sweeten the teachers morning tea. As for the rest of the jam and fruits Sienna sells, they were under review."
Jess’s eyes narrowed. "Extortion and disrespect. I will not stand for this."
Elias’s tails lashed violently, his voice booming. "My tails! Do you know that cutting a tail of beast man is a crime? As if that is not enough, you are extorting my wife, my child, my grandmother and my tribe. Arrest her."
The guards tightened their grips in Jane’s arms, eager and jubilant. They had long awaited the order. Jane shrieked as they dragged her out, her protests drowned beneath the clatter of armor and the hiss of Mija’s laughter.
Silence fell once she was gone, broken only by the heavy breathing of those who had witnessed the spectacle from the beginning. None of them could have predicted in their wildest dreams that this would end in this way.
Sienna straightened, her voice calm but firm. "Enforcers, royal agents and fox vanguard, thank you all for coming. If anyone needs a statement from me, it is one and the same so you can all record it: That woman attempted to abduct my daughter, extort me and my family and tribe, and the royal family. Her actions were criminal, her arrogance intolerable. I request a full investigation into her and the school. I hope she will be given the maximum punishment for her crimes."
The enforcers bowed, and the royal agents put away their recording devices.
"Justice will be served," a royal agent assured her. "Kidnapping the child of a tribal lord is a very serious offense. It is equal to kidnapping a royal child."
They left slowly, but the relatives remained.
Sienna turned to her in-laws, "Everyone, I can’t thank you enough for rushing here to save Ali. But I have a case I was handling..."
"Holy shit! Tariq Benali is married!" Miro cut her off, loudly. "To her!!!"
He was standing beside the lawyers, holding one of the documents and staring at the Benali couple with wide eyes. "I am so not leaving until I..." He yowled as his grandfather dragged him out by the ear.
Marius and Gael followed, looking back at the Benali’s constantly, unwilling to depart. Jess pushed them out as if she was getting rid of pests.
Elias was the last with Ali and Eli. Sienna exhaled, the weight of authority settling back onto her shoulders. "Now," she said, voice steady, "let us return to the matter at hand. You came to me for judgement, Mr and Mrs. Benali, and you shall have it."
The couple shifted uneasily, reminded that even amidst chaos, Sienna put her duty to the tribe first. She did not seem to be shaken in the slightest way.
"So, why did you cheat?" Mija asked Sammy Benali, directly. She couldn’t withhold her curiosity for a single moment. "Be direct, no wasting time. We have twenty eight other cases."
Sammy clenched her hands, It’s...it’s hard to explain." Her words hung heavy in the air.
Elder Mini leaned forward, Linera tilted her head, and the court clerk stopped scribbling for a moment.
Sammy swallowed hard, eyes darting toward her husband. "He only loved me because I was unattractive. I guess it made Tariq feel safe that no other man wanted me. He kept telling me that I was not ugly enough....I needed to do more to be unattractive. But then, I saw him making moon eyes at his beautiful publicist. I saw that look of appreciation in his eyes, which I never get. So, I went out and found someone who desired me the way I am. I wanted to prove that I wasn’t just his....convenient choice."
The room froze. Everyone exchanged baffled glances, the court clerk tapped her keyboard, and Sienna blinked in astonishment. A handsome man that deliberately set out to marry an ugly woman! "In all my years, I have never heard of such a confession." She looked at Mr. Benali, "I can’t wait to hear your side of this story."
