Chapter 255: The decision.
Elena gasped, clutching her husband’s arm. Her reaction was far stronger than her sister Niki’s. Which was funny, considering that it was Niki’s company.
"Donate? To the tribe?" Elena screeched.
Boris’s arrogance shattered into disbelief. "Matriarch, you are going too far. We came here to deal with matters concerning Stella, not the company. The company is a family business. It has nothing to do with the tribe. Niki cannot give it away, it belongs to my daughter. "
Sienna was not the only one to raise her brows. Many in the room, who could think logically, did the same.
Elder Mini spoke for the first time, "Boris, do you hear yourself?"
Boris clenched his fists. "Of course I hear myself. I am hearing myself loud and clearly just as I am hearing the matriarch attempting to steal our company."
Sienna leaned forward, keeping her eyes on Niki. "You are hearing the same thing as me. I believe that you might be even more brilliant than me. Do you sincerely believe that if you give your life’s work to Miss Stella cannot decide for herself," she pointed the young woman, "it will live on?"
"Two months, that’s how long it will survive." Mija said with confidence. "The first thing this couple will do is make Miss Stella cannot decide for herself hire all of her siblings."
Linera pitched in, "And they won’t take on small jobs, like mixing spices or working in the factory. These are the kind of people that want high positions. Your sister is probably waiting for her son to become the CEO of the company."
"Shut up! Shut up!" Elena screamed.
Niki walked closer to the table, ignoring the lunatic screams of her sister who was about to dragged out by guards at any moment, the way things were going. "Lady Sienna....you dare suggest such a thing?"
Sienna nodded, her voice steady. "Yes. If you truly care for your legacy and wish to leave one, you can hand over the company to the tribe. I or the Veythar’s will ensure that it lives on forever in your name, and it is managed well. Let it serve all, not just greedy relatives. Let your wealth become a part of the tribe’s strength."
Elder Mini’s eyes gleamed with approval. "Such a decision is the best for everyone involved. Even if you adopt another child, there is no guarantee that they will take care of your legacy. On the other hand, a donation of this size could get you nobility in the tribe."
Elena lunged, screaming at the top of her voice, "Stop it, stop seducing her with your words. That is my company, you cannot give it away."
Guards grabbed her before she made it close to her sister or Sienna. But the woman continued to shout, "You cannot do this to me, think about Stella. Didn’t you say that you love her? Think about your other nieces and nephews. Don’t you love them? What’s wrong with leaving them your company? They are your blood. Sister, our parents won’t support this decision, they also agree that Rode should be the rightful heir."
Niki huffed. "Rode! You want your deadbeat son to take over my company!"
Mija hissed softly, amused the shock rippling through Stella and Niki. They had not got that memo, apparently. Linera just sniggered, because she had seen this coming from a mile away.
Boris shouted, "This is betrayal! Our blood deserves the company!"
Niki, cold and logical, considered. "Perhaps...perhaps it is fitting. My company was started with a loan I got from the finance office of the tribe. It was started with tribal support. To give it back would be just."
Stella gasped, torn between relief and despair, "Mama, if you donate it, then I...I will have nothing to inherit."
Sienna smiled faintly, "You will inherit something greater: freedom. You will not be bound by the expectations of your birth mother or the burden of your adoptive mother’s wealth. You will build your own path. You can make a decision on who you want as your mother without putting the company into consideration. From my observation, it is the real reason why we are all here."
Stella wiped her eyes, "Then I choose Niki, my mama who raised me." She was no fool. Without the extra support of the company, if she returned to her birth family, she would have to use her salary and savings to support them.
The fact that her birth parents had already picked Rode, the deadbeat as heir to the company spoke volumes about their priorities. Clearly, she was not one. With her adoptive mother, she was the only one. All of her mother’s love and money was hers.
Sienna turned to Niki, "Congratulations, she has made her choice."
Elena collapsed into her husband’s arms, sobbing. The husband cursed under his breath, his arrogance shattered.
Niki stood tall, her cold logic wavering into contemplation. She had not made the decision, but it seemed over and done with. Stella was trembling, but she seemed strangely free. In the end, the matriarch had known how to solve the problem.
Elder Mini rose, leaning on her cane, "Lady Sienna has spoken and acted wisely. The fox tribe has always been proud of Manos sauces and dressings. Niki Manos is one of the women that stand out in this empire for her business and personal ethics. She is the standard many adhere to. Her legacy must come before selfish desires."
Mija chuckled. "Oh, the scandal this will cause. The gossip will be delicious for sure."
Sienna cleared her throat, "Miss Niki, I am waiting. I have no plans of revisiting this matter again. The decision must be made today, here and now. We both know that if you don’t decide, Elena and Boris will continue to fuss. Stella will continue to be torn, and you will continue to worry about what will happen to your company after you are gone.
I have no plans to take this company away from you. Stella can continue in her position. All decisions are up to you. My only job is to make sure that after you die, what you built remains intact."
Niki took a deep breath. "I will...I will do as you say."
Elena lost all of her remaining strength.
Sienna stood, her presence commanding. "This case is not about inheritance or two mothers fighting for a daughter. It is about fairness, about the future. Elena and Boris, you may rage, you may weep, but you will remember this: Stella is not your betting chip. Her life is hers to live." She didn’t have a gavel, so she tapped the desk with her fingers. "Now, let us adjourn. What has happened hear will travel through the tribe so that others may learn from it."
The Manos sisters and Stella left. Boris was fuming, unable to hide his rage. Of all three people, only Niki cared that Stella was trembling.
