Chapter 84: Healing the Ones She Loves

Maeve couldn’t help letting out a soft hiss when she saw the wounds hidden beneath the cloth wrapped around Ikarus’s and Cerus’s bodies.

Although Cerus wasn’t hurt as badly as Ikarus, his body was still covered in cuts, and some of them looked deep enough to make her stomach twist.

"You don’t have to help us clean up," Ikarus said gently. "We can do it ourselves. You just gave birth. You should be resting."

Maeve looked up at him. "The Sky Mother has blessed me with her divine power, so my body is much better now." She gave him a small smile. "Besides... is it really so strange for a wife to take care of her husband?"

She paused before glancing at Cerus with an embarrassed smile. "I mean... her mates."

"No, it’s not like that," Ikarus said softly. He let out a quiet breath before continuing. "I just... don’t want you to see these ugly wounds."

Maeve immediately frowned. "Ugly?" she repeated. "I don’t think that’s what we should be worried about right now!"

She grumbled under her breath and stopped arguing. Instead, she focused on gently cleaning the dried blood around their wounds so she could finally see the injuries clearly.

Meanwhile, Axan quietly brought over fresh buckets of water whenever the previous one became red with blood.

Fortunately, it had rained a few days earlier, so the tribe had plenty of clean water stored.

"Alright, I think this looks much better now," Maeve said as she looked over their bodies.

There were still a few bloodstains here and there, but at least they no longer covered the wounds.

"Axan," Maeve called after he sat down beside her with another bucket of clean water. "Would you like to help me heal their injuries?"

"I would," Axan replied, raising an eyebrow. "But how?"

Maeve smiled before taking the Healing Staplers out of her inventory. "With these!"

The moment Ikarus saw them, he froze in place. His face somehow became even paler than before. Cerus, on the other hand, leaned forward with sparkling eyes.

"What can that tiny thing do?"

"It heals wounds," Maeve explained. Then her smile faded into a serious expression. "But I should warn you first. This thing is going to hurt... a lot."

Cerus puffed out his chest confidently. "Ha! That’s no big dea—"

He suddenly stopped talking. The moment Axan pressed the Healing Stapler against one of his wounds, Cerus’s face instantly twisted as if he had just swallowed something unbelievably sour.

"So..." Axan said in his usual calm voice. "It does hurt."

"No," Cerus answered in a tiny, shaky squeak.

Very slowly, he reached one hand toward Ikarus, hoping to grab his arm for support, but Ikarus slapped his hand instead.

"I’m so sorry..." Maeve said, looking at him with guilty eyes. "If I had another way to heal you without causing so much pain, I would use it. But for now..." She gave him an apologetic smile. "I hope you can bear with it a little longer."

Axan nodded in agreement. "Yes. Besides, this seems to heal your wounds much faster."

Before Cerus could even complain, Axan pressed another Healing Stapler onto one of his wounds.

"AAGH—!"

Cerus nearly jumped out of his place. For some reason, the corners of Axan’s lips lifted ever so slightly every time he watched Cerus squirm in pain.

Whether he meant to or not... he looked like he was enjoying himself just a little too much.

"You did that on purpose, you jerk!" Cerus shouted at Axan, looking like he was ready to strangle him right then and there.

Axan simply looked back at him with his usual calm expression. "What?" he asked innocently. "I’m only trying to heal you, brother. So sit still, and you’ll be fine before you know it."

Cerus opened his mouth to argue again, but another Healing Stapler was already waiting for him.

"Axan, you jerk!"

While the two of them continued bickering, Ikarus quietly took a deep breath. He closed his eyes for a moment, as if preparing himself for what was coming, then he looked at Maeve and gave her a small nod.

"Alright," he said calmly. "I’m ready." He offered her a faint smile. "Do it quickly."

Maeve nodded. "Okay... just stay with me."

After that, the only thing Ikarus and Cerus could feel was pain. The Healing Staplers worked incredibly fast, but the healing process was so intense that neither of them could think about anything else.

Fortunately, it didn’t last long. The moment the last of their wounds closed, both brothers finally let out long breaths of relief.

Ikarus remained sitting where he was, quietly catching his breath. Although his wounds had disappeared, the pain had drained most of his strength.

Cerus, on the other hand, had completely given up on looking dignified. He lay curled up on the floor, hugging himself while muttering curses under his breath.

"Oh, stop whining," Axan said without a hint of sympathy. "You’re already healed."

"That doesn’t erase the emotional damage!" Cerus said. "Wait until you get hurt, and I’ll be the one who—"

"Maeve," Axan suddenly said, turning to her with a perfectly calm face. "He’s wishing for me to get hurt."

Cerus’s eyes widened. "Hey!"

Maeve looked back and forth between the two of them before rubbing her forehead.

"You two..." she sighed. "Let’s just stop arguing for now."

Cerus and Axan were about to open their mouths again when a panicked voice suddenly echoed from outside the cave.

"Leaders! Leaders!" The voice was so loud that everyone inside immediately turned toward the entrance.

"Something is coming! No... no, not something!" the warrior corrected himself as he ran into the cave, breathing heavily. "I think the people from the Pyrax Tribe are coming! Leaders, they must be here to take revenge because we killed their people!"

The cheerful atmosphere vanished in an instant. Cerus, who was laying on the ground, immediately stood up, "What?"

The warrior bent over, trying to catch his breath. "Our scouts spotted them heading this way. There are... there are a lot of them!"
