Chapter 79: The Birth of Hope (1)

The moment she heard those words, Maeve let out a small sigh of relief.

Even though the pain hadn’t disappeared completely, she could already feel the potion slowly taking effect. Every second that passed became just a little more bearable than the last.

"Maeve, you can do it," Ikarus encouraged her. "But you have to push."

Maeve nodded weakly before taking a deep breath. She gathered all the strength she had left and pushed with everything she had.

"Aah...!"

"That’s it. You’re doing great," he said. "Just a little more."

Another contraction came, but this time it wasn’t as overwhelming as before. Between the special potion, her Pain Resistance, and the golden blood flowing through her body, Maeve finally felt like she could endure it.

More than that, she remembered that Pinky had told her before that being physically intimate with Ikarus during her pregnancy would help prepare her body for childbirth.

At the time, she had been too embarrassed to think much about it. But now that she was actually giving birth, she realized Pinky had been right.

"Maeve!" Ikarus called, pulling her back to the present. "I can see more of the baby’s head now. One more big push!"

Maeve clenched her teeth, took another deep breath, and pushed with all her remaining strength.

"That’s it! Keep going!" Ikarus shouted, his voice filled with both excitement and panic.

Maeve cried out as she pushed again. Every muscle in her body trembled from the effort, and sweat soaked her forehead and neck.

Suddenly, she felt tired. "I-I can’t..."

"You can," Ikarus said immediately, gently holding her legs. "You’re almost there. I can see the baby’s head very clearly now."

Maeve nodded through gritted teeth. She took a deep breath and pushed with everything she had.

"I can see the shoulders!" Ikarus exclaimed, his eyes lighting up. "Maeve, just one more push! One more!"

Maeve had almost no strength left, but hearing those words gave her one last burst of determination.

She cried out as she gave everything she had. A second later, the baby’s body finally slipped into Ikarus’s waiting hands.

Not long after, a loud cry echoed throughout the underground cave. "Waaah!"

Maeve’s entire body went limp as all the tension left her. "Our baby..." she whispered weakly.

"It’s a boy," Ikarus said, his voice full of warmth and relief. The fear and panic that had filled the room only moments ago disappeared in an instant, replaced by pure joy.

Maeve smiled faintly as her eyelids grew heavier because she was completely exhausted.

Through her blurry vision, she caught a glimpse of the newborn in Ikarus’s arms. He was much bigger than an ordinary human baby.

’No wonder it hurt so much...’

Just then, Pinky’s voice echoed in her mind again. [Don’t worry, Host. The special potion will also restore your body to its original condition. However, what you’re about to feel may not be very pleasant.]

Maeve blinked slowly. At first, she had no idea what Pinky meant by that "unpleasant feeling." because she thought the worst was already over.

She opened her mouth to ask Pinky what it meant. But before a single word could leave her lips, a strange warmth spread through her entire body.

It started in her lower abdomen, then quickly moved through her chest, arms, and legs. Every muscle felt sore, as if her body were rapidly repairing itself from the inside.

"What is this..." Maeve frowned.

The feeling wasn’t exactly painful, but it was incredibly uncomfortable. It was like thousands of tiny needles were pricking every part of her body while her bones and muscles slowly shifted back into place.

[The potion is restoring the damage caused by childbirth, Host. Please don’t resist it.] Pinky explained.

Maeve wanted to answer, but her eyelids suddenly became unbearably heavy.

Ikarus immediately noticed the change in her expression and hurried to her side. "Maeve? Maeve, are you alright?"

Maeve weakly reached for his arm before slowly turning her head toward their baby.

The little boy had blue skin, just like his father. But unlike Ikarus, his ears were small and round like a human’s instead of the long, elf-like ears of the Azuryn people.

A faint smile appeared on Maeve’s lips. "Ikarus..." she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I’ll... be fine, so..." She looked at their son one more time before meeting Ikarus’s eyes. "Please... take care of our baby."

[Host’s body stress level has reached 100%!]

[Host has a 100% chance of collapsing within the next five seconds.]

Maeve wanted to tell Pinky not to scare her with such a warning, but her body had already reached its limit.

The strength left her limbs, and her vision quickly faded into darkness.

"Maeve!"

Ikarus’s panicked shout was the last thing she heard before she finally lost consciousness.

Maeve felt as though she were floating on a bed of soft clouds. A gentle warmth spread through every part of her body, slowly washing away the pain and exhaustion. It felt as if she were wrapped in a thick, comfortable blanket, safe from everything around her.

"Maeve, you have saved our civilization from extinction." A gentle voice echoed through the peaceful space.

Maeve slowly opened her eyes and the sight before her made her catch her breath.

She was surrounded by endless orange clouds, glowing softly under the warm sunlight. Golden rays shone through the gaps, filling the sky with a peaceful light that gently embraced her.

"Where... am I?" she whispered.

She looked around in confusion, then suddenly realized she wasn’t standing on anything at all. Instead, she was floating.

"Pinky!" she called out, turning from side to side. "Hey! Where are you?!"

"There are only two of us here, Maeve." The gentle voice spoke again, but this time, it didn’t sound distant anymore. It was so close that it felt as though the speaker was standing right behind her.

Slowly, she turned around and saw a woman unlike anyone she had ever seen.

Her skin was a beautiful shade of blue, almost the same color as a clear summer sky. Long silver-white hair flowed down to her waist, gently swaying even though there was no wind. She wore a simple white robe trimmed with faint golden patterns, and a soft golden glow surrounded her.
