Chapter 479: Chapter 479: Exposure

Phoenix Golding’s words convinced the tall woman completely. Her fury was now as immense as the patience she had shown before. She flung Phoenix Golding aside and charged at the man to beat him.

"You conscienceless bastard! I bore you children, and you want to divorce me? I’ll kill you first, you black-hearted fiend!"

The tall woman’s eyes were red. She had lost all reason. Years of suppressed anger had finally erupted. She had wanted to teach this bastard a lesson for a long time, and today, she finally got her wish.

Everyone else watched with great relish, not even wanting to go home for dinner. A spectacle like this only came around once every few years. They had to watch it to their heart’s content.

"Drag them out!"

Someone shouted, instantly igniting the crowd’s enthusiasm.

"Yeah, drag them out so everyone can get a good look at this shameless couple!"

Everyone was incredibly eager, their eyes gleaming. Their dull, tedious lives needed some spice, and this adulterous pair was the perfect stimulant. The crowd was united as never before. Phoenix Golding and the fat man panicked and tried to escape, but the others wouldn’t let them. A thick wall of people blocked their way.

"Please, let me go! I’ll never do it again!" Phoenix Golding knelt on the floor, begging for mercy. She was truly terrified. If they dragged her out, how could she ever show her face in the village again? The weight of the gossip would crush her.

The fat man was even more scared. He was a man of some standing. If he were really paraded outside, he would lose all face, and his job would be gone too.

The tall woman grew anxious as well. She hadn’t expected such severe consequences. She pointed at Phoenix Golding and cursed, "It’s this homewrecker’s fault! Let her go alone!"

"Your husband’s no better! Trash finds trash. A shameless couple!"

Goldie Thorne retorted, then grabbed a rope and tied Phoenix Golding and the fat man together. The tall woman, like a madwoman, tried to save her husband. If this got out, how could she and her children ever face anyone in town?

But no matter how strong she was, she couldn’t fight the enthusiasm of the crowd. It was useless. She could only watch helplessly as her husband and Phoenix Golding were dragged out of the house and exposed before everyone.

"CLANG..."

Goldie Thorne, who knows from where, had produced a dented washbasin. He banged it a few times, and everyone cleared a path, lining up on both sides to give the shameless couple a grand send-off.

Phoenix Golding and the fat man were tied together with a rope. Both kept their heads down, wishing the earth would swallow them whole.

The crowd of onlookers grew larger and larger until it seemed like the whole town had turned out. Some people even came carrying their dinner bowls to watch the spectacle. Life in the small rural town was usually peaceful; it hadn’t been this lively in a long time—even livelier than market day.

Tang Xiaonan wanted to see the spectacle too, but Adrian Hawthorne clamped his hands tightly over her eyes, so tight that she couldn’t see a thing. All she could hear was the clamor of the crowd and Adrian Hawthorne’s voice.

That guy hadn’t been idle for a moment. Just like at the meeting on Millstone Peak, he was fanning the flames everywhere, gradually guiding the onlookers. He was also the first one to shout about dragging them out for public humiliation. Tang Xiaonan had heard him loud and clear.

"Let me see."

Tang Xiaonan squirmed relentlessly. She’d never seen anything like this before and desperately wanted to see Phoenix Golding’s miserable state.

But Adrian Hawthorne refused to let go, no matter what. "You can’t look!"

Such a filthy couple shouldn’t be allowed to taint little Fatty Tang’s eyes.

"Then how come you get to look?" Tang Xiaonan yelled angrily.

"I’m an adult. You’re a child."

Tang Xiaonan gritted her teeth in frustration. ’Damn it, he’s only twelve! Who is he to act like a grown-up in front of me?’
