Chapter 111: Chapter 111 Leaving

What kind of father throws his son away because he hated the woman that birthed him? He did not add Rex’s name to the family register until not long ago.

Something that he probably must have done with a lot of reluctance because his wife only has daughters. Three. And he needs a son to oversee his business ventures. Which is why he is disturbingly reaching out to Rex now.

Rex had not told me this much about his father. I found out on my own when I needed to kill his business associate who had then managed to get on the wrong foot with my uncle. In the process of finding out about whom I needed to kill, I found and gathered quite some info about Cameron Montell.

His business is in shady. Athough he is not part of any mafia or gang. He deals in human trafficking for prostitution, racketeering and extortions with his loan shark business. I am in no position to care or judge about his business dealings. I just don’t fancy how shitty of a father he is to Rex. No one forced him to put his seed in Rex’s mother’s womb. It is extremely petty that he had to take whatever grudge he had against the mother on his son. "Yeah. I probably would punch him one of these days." He says.

"The thing is, I don’t know how long I would be gone for. I want to tell you to please don’t hurt Gweneth while I am gone." Did I see this coming? No

I chuckle lightly. "Did she say something?"

"No. She did not need to. I could see how frightened she was when I told her the news. And I know it is because of you. So please, I am asking you, do not hurt her." His tone is calm but serious. Dead serious.

He sounds almost like he. . . loves her to death or something?

I push my body forward, elbows on my knees to better observe his expression for the burning question that I am about to ask. It is churning up over and over in my mind. I should know at least.

"Do you like her?"

I really feel prompted to ask that. The words somehow tastes bitter on my tongue, and I do not like it at all. I feel that his answer would be something that would get me pissed off again. I hate it. I so much hate it. And I can’t help it.

I need to know because this is very unlike him. He doesn’t reply. That is an answer.

"It must be to a great deal then. Otherwise, why would you would care what happens to her?

I remember that you used to frequent that shitty noodle restaurant that she used to work at. Is that were you met her?"

I have been giving it a lot of thought. And it just does not make sense that he just saw her here that day and suddenly liked her. Rex isn’t like the rest of us who just fuck without any commitment whatsoever.

He fancies the idea of falling in love which I find trivial and useless. It is nothing but a stupid fantasy indulgence created by bored and stupid people. Judging from the way she looked at him that day, and the way he did her tells that they were not strangers then.

"How do you know that she used to work there?" He asks, giving me a scrutinizing look.

"You dragged me there several times. How could I not?"

"You only went there with me like four times. And I remember correctly that she wasn’t the one who served us during those times.

So it is indeed true that you used to bully her there with all the others?" His voice raises slightly at the end. I am a little surprised that she told that.

"You guys have sure spoken a lot."

He is starting to look pissed. I’m starting to feel pissed too. Here I am finding peace and quiet only for that girl’s name to be brought up.

"You are not even denying it.

No wonder she is so frightened of all of you!"

I take out another cigarette from the pack to light. "How soon will you be leaving?"

GWENETH

"O happy dagger, this is my sheath; rust there an—" Ms Carla sharply interrupts me.

"It is there rust and let me die. The line goes; "O happy dagger. . ." She dramatically holds up a pen. She then points it to her chest, to mimic a suicidal attempt.

"This is my sheath; there rust, and let me die." She says in a grieving voice and completes her act by falling onto the floor like a leaf.

Acting like she was dead for few seconds before getting back up on her feet.

Was that needed? If I am expected to portray Juliet’s character so deeply, I might as well just put down this script and walk out the door.

If only that was possible. Sighs. I’m tired of this. I really am.

I never knew acting is this hard. You just don’t have to remember lines, you have to include emotions and try to kinda change yourself to fit into the character arc.

Those actors in movie made it look so easy. Somebody has to tell this woman by now that we are not professional actors. It does not matter how much best we give to this play, it is never going to compare.

We are just students who were roped into this. Out of the nine of us who are here, six was picked through detention; Joey Sobero and her sister, Linda. Ramsey O’Neil, Miranda Larson, Gia Storm and Gary Hart. While she bribed me with grades even though I do not really need literature in a medical course.

Rex said he decided to join in because I was. He is playing Romeo. And that is the only reason why I have not backed out of this.

I won’t. Never. Unless I suddenly wake up out of my head one day, which is never going to happen.
