Chapter 112: Chapter 112 A New, Different Side

The last person, Inna Robert who is playing our esteemed Lady Montague. I don’t know if she was bribed like me or just decided to be part of this out of the goodness of her heart.

Either way, we all aren’t cut out for this. We should be given a teeny tiny bit of slack for our efforts so far at least. "I have been telling you. All of you. Acting is about putting in emotions. The only reason you react and relate to sad or happy scenes from movies and dramas is because the actors are emotionally invested.

They make it so real to the point that we cannot help but feel it from our television screens." Ms Carla says empathetically.

"Yeah, maybe. But we are not actors." Good job Linda. I mentally applauded her. It is about time someone speaks up and tells this woman that. "No one here looks like they want to be an actor. Does anyone want to be an actor? Anyone?" She asks, and no one raises their hand. "No one. See!" She points out.

"Thank you for your opinion Linda, but it is not needed. Nor is it helpful. Rome was not built in a day. Some of you might end up becoming great actors in the near future. This might just be the push and start you need."

"Yeah. Like your car." Silent snickers erupts at what Gary Hart said. I am trying not to laugh. Making fun of someone’s car is not funny, Gary.

She zeros her gaze on him. "Perhaps I should speak to the teachers council so you would have a whole full week of detention starting next week. What do you think Gary?"

Gary apologizes. "I am sorry, ma’am."

"Of course you are. Now as I was saying, Gweneth." She faces me again. "You should not be doing this. Your acting is flat and dull. It sounds like you are being forced to read a book. You are quite okay with the lines. But you just need to put in lot of emotions and resonate with Juliet’s character. I would have done a recast and find someone who could replace you. But I won’t, because you fit it so well. Please put in your emotions next practice, okay?"

"Yes, Ms Carla."

"How could I possibly resonate with Juliet’s character? I mean, she died! I don’t want to die because of love. I would never! And the lines, it is not my fault that they are so archaic. Couldn’t they have been updated to modern standards or something? I feel like we are backwards in that era whenever I am in that practice." Rex chuckles at my statement. "No, really. And it is not funny!" I emphasize because his laugh is kinda downplaying the point I am trying to make.

"I know. It is just that, I never knew you were much of a speaker. You have been talking my ear off since we left the play practice. You have been talking for approximately eight minutes straight. It takes seven minutes to get here from the art class." He explains. Geez, so that means I was being insensitively chatty. "Sorry. I just did not feel good about it and wanted to let it out."

"There is no need for you to apologize. I like hearing you speak. You sound a lot like someone I know."

"Who?" I am quite curious. Who could it be? A girl? One of his sisters?

He answers. "A girl." She was my neighbor back when I was in Spain. It is almost like she raps when she speaks. You were just like that a while ago."

I blush, "I was?"

He nods, "I guess you really aren’t the quiet type like you make yourself out to be."

"Really?" I pout. "But I like being the quiet type."

"Speaking suits you more." He says, reaching his hand over the table to softly pinch my cheek. I have gotten over the awkwardness I usually feel when he does this in the large presence of other people. I keep my gaze trained on Rex and my food tray on the desk. Trying not to let my eyes accidentally stray to someone whose looks from his eyes could send me straight to hell if it had been possible. What is his problem exactly? He has his lounge. Why has he been coming here to do nothing but glare? Isn’t he worried he would catch wrinkles? I hope he gets wild rashes and acne too. Even poison ivy and elderberry rash. He more than deserves it.

I had barely eaten my fries before I started speaking about the play again. Rapping, like he said. I am surprised of this new side of me too. I am the type who likes to bottle things up because doing that feels safer. I do not speak out unless it is to someone that I know and trust would keep it to themselves too. Rex Montell. I have not known him for long. But he had quickly become that person for me. There truly are some certain people who are made to bring out different sides of us.

Sometimes for good. Sometimes for worse. Dad told me that we humans are like a Rubik’s cube. You can never fully understand someone. Which is why the most dangerous crimes are committed by people who seem most unlikely to even hurt a fly, much more commit a heinous level of crime. I watched a crimes documentary with Dad one time. The criminals that were featured looked like they could do no wrong. No one would not fall for them at a single look.

Our psyche is the most complicated. We are each understanding and learning a new side to ourselves everyday.

Rex is similar to my Dad because he listens without freaking out and offers solutions if it is a problem and a presence if it’s not.

I soon realized that I was being chatty again and apologized.

"Sorry. I am talking your ear off again. I did not know when it just started coming out."
