Chapter 114: Yomi’s Reckoning (2)
With the Supreme Goddess of Luminous Nature’s orders hanging absolute in the air, no one dared hesitate.
The war room emptied in disciplined silence as every assigned group departed without another wasted breath.
And one week later... Far across the Underside, on the first Star Union battlefield, a different story unfolded.
Liliana stepped out of the main fortress that now flew the banners of the Dead Sun Pantheon.
The moment she had arrived in the Underside — just like the others — the chaos of war had swallowed her whole.
Yet unlike the rest, her bloodlines had marked her path for her.
Both the vampiric and siren heritage she carried hailed from the dark depths of this place, and so the Dead Sun forces had claimed her as one of their own the instant she appeared.
She walked with measured grace across the black-stone courtyard, her long blood-red coat flowing behind her like liquid shadow.
The wide-brimmed hat of congealed blood sat perfectly atop her head, crimson eyes cold and unreadable beneath its brim.
A cluster of Dead Kami and Vampires lingered near the gates. One of them called out, voice rough with respect.
"Red Lady! Without you we never would have taken this fortress so cleanly."
Another added, "Your scripture power... it truly turned the tide. The Dead Sun is grateful."
Liliana came to a halt, tilting her head just enough for her crimson gaze to slice through them like sharp steel.
"Keep your thanks," she said, her voice cool and fluid as fresh blood. "It wasn’t for you."
The soldiers fell silent under her gaze. She gave them nothing more — not a smile, not a nod of acknowledgment — and continued walking.
Once she cleared the outer walls she launched into the sky under the simple cover of reconnaissance.
The freezing wind of the Underside tore past her face, thick with the copper stench of endless blood and the sour rot of decay.
Below her the claimed territory sprawled in jagged darkness.
Alone at last, the cold mask she wore for the world cracked just enough for her true thoughts to surface.
’Father... Mother...’
The names burned in her chest like old wounds that never fully closed.
Centuries spent searching, building the Dark Hold, tugging every string from Silent Peak, becoming the Red Lady whispered about in fear by the Underside — all of it led to this.
For answers, for the path into the Underside she had at last discovered.
With a flick of her will the status menu bloomed silently before her crimson eyes.
’How much for the location of my Father?’
The answer came instantly, clean and merciless.
[Cost = 50,000 DP]
Liliana’s eyes narrowed to fiery slits.
A soft, venomous curse slipped from her blood-red lips.
"Dammit, that’s still a lot," she muttered, having already tried every possible method to find her parents.
That included the most accessible option to all beings—divinity. It was well known that divinity could create or do anything.
But it always came with a cost.
Even if one only sought information, the status screen of every being would demand a price in exchange, depending on or what it concerned.
"But this... confirms I’m closer to them..."
Fifty thousand....
Sure, the price had gone down, but it still felt like daylight robbery.
It was a small fortune she couldn’t just toss away without a thought.
Still, the answers meant more than the money—answers she’d spent centuries chasing, paying in blood and time.
So, without another moment’s pause, she handed over the payment.
HUM!!
The moment the transaction completed, a new prompt flared into existence.
A glowing path of pure information stretched unerringly across the sky, pointing straight toward the main battlefield of the entire war — the place where Amaterasu and Izanami’s endless duel still tore at the fabric of reality itself.
Liliana’s cold expression stayed the same, but behind her crimson eyes, something fierce, hungry, and obsessively intense sparked to life.
’I’m coming.’
She adjusted her course without a word and shot forward into the blood-stained sky, the wind screaming past her like a living thing.
----
With Liliana making her way to the Main Battlefield, a certain trio hadn’t been gone from there for long.
Seeing firsthand the vast gap in power and authority between him and the Supreme Goddess left no room for further debate.
The situation was far more complex than anything Jovian could figure out alone, but if he could get something worthwhile out of it, he was willing to help.
The three of them cut through the blood-stained skies of the Underside — Jovian floating with easy, carefree grace, Sunya gliding with regal precision, and the Cosmic Union Human flying in disciplined silence beside them.
The cold wind whipped past, carrying the lingering metallic scent of war.
Jovian glanced sideways at Sunya, white hair streaming behind him, blindfold tilted with open curiosity.
"So... what the hell was that back there?"
Sunya’s green eyes narrowed, her long blond braid shifting with the wind. Her voice came out cool and measured, edged with quiet exasperation.
"I genuinely don’t know if you’re smart enough to play the fool... or if you’re simply a fool."
She turned her head slightly toward him as they flew.
"Have you ever tried looking deeply into a weaker being?"
Jovian tilted his head, the motion almost playful.
"Not unless I was playing with fate."
Sunya simply shook her head once, the gesture sharp and final, as if the answer confirmed something she already suspected.
The Cosmic Union Human glanced between them, his expression carefully respectful despite the clear power difference.
"Goddess Sunya... if I may ask, what is your connection to this man?"
Jovian jumped in before she could speak, a bright, mischievous grin spreading across his face.
"We’re just rivals. And she still owes me a rematch."
Sunya’s green eyes flicked toward him, sharp and unyielding.
"I’m not your rival.... And if we fight again, I won’t hold back."
Jovian arched a brow beneath his white blindfold, a spark of genuine surprise crossing his face.
"You... held back?"
Before the conversation could go any further, the second Star Union battlefield stretched out before them in the distance.
From afar, the continent looked nothing like the blood-soaked nightmare of the Underside.
Instead of rotting fortresses and rivers of black blood, it appeared as a breathtaking oasis.
With lush green grasslands rippling under the dim light of the seven suns, ancient frozen forests of glowing dream-pines and a single majestic mountain crowned in eternal winter rising at the center like a frozen dream.
The entire land looked peaceful, vibrant, almost holy... completely out of place in this inverted hell.
Jovian’s face instantly morphed into confusion, with his white hair drifting around his face.
"What the hell...? Since when does this place look like a goddamn paradise?"
Sunya’s green eyes narrowed sharply, her voice cool and edged with suspicion.
"No... this isn’t right. Nothing in the Underside should look this... pure."
The Cosmic Union Human’s jaw tightened, professional focus hardening into open wariness.
"The Goddess is not wrong... we need to stay alert."
The three of them flew closer, the cold wind whipping past their faces....
And then, without the slightest hint or signal, they arrived at the border.
No alarms sounded, no signs marked the transition—just an abrupt, almost surreal shift that left the air feeling heavier.
One moment they were cutting cleanly through the open sky. The next, they slammed into something completely invisible and utterly unyielding.
BOOOOM!!!
The impact rattled through their bones.
Jovian slammed face-first into empty air and bounced backward with a surprised shout.
"The hell—?!"
Sunya twisted mid-air with perfect grace the instant she hit the invisible wall, landing lightly on nothing as her long blond braid whipped behind her.
Her green eyes flashed.
"How... is a barrier here?"
They hovered there, staring at the empty air that had just rejected them like a solid mountain.
Beyond the invisible boundary the land still looked like a perfect oasis... but none of them could see a single living being, a single structure, or any sign of the war they knew should be raging inside.
The barrier completely blocked all perception.
It was as if they were looking at... a painting.
Sunya’s green eyes remained cold and calculating as she studied the invisible boundary.
"This is not natural. Something... or someone... has claimed this entire battlefield."
The Cosmic Union Human stepped forward, voice grim.
"We need to get inside. The Supreme Goddess’s orders were clear."
And with those words.... They began testing it immediately.
HUMMMMM!!!!!
The Cosmic Union Human stepped forward first, conjuring a dense sphere of pure divinity in his grasp.
With a force capable of shattering a mountain, he hurled it into the barrier. Yet, as one might have expected, nothing happened.
The immense power disappeared without a whisper, as though it had been devoured by an infinite void.
Jovian drifted forward, lifting the Fate Breaker Sword with an almost lazy ease as he sliced through several thick fate threads that should have been anchoring themselves to the barrier.
SHKKKK!!!!!
The strands unraveled into nothing... yet the barrier didn’t so much as flicker.
Then Sunya stepped up, drawing her Primordial bow in one fluid motion.
THRUM!
She set an arrow forged from condensed space-time and vibrant living nature to the string, loosed it, and watched as it flew straight into the unseen wall — only to vanish without a trace.
----
After seeing their efforts for a short while and realizing they were utterly futile, Jovian drifted back, casually resting the Fate Breaker Sword on his shoulder.
His expression shifted to one of contemplation as he finally spoke.
"Alright, that’s irritating. So, does anyone have a better idea?"
Sunya’s green eyes stayed locked on the barrier, her voice quiet but sharp.
"Whoever made this... is far beyond anything we prepared for."
The Cosmic Union Human clenched his fists, solar-like energy sparking around him in frustration.
"Failure’s not an option... we should find out how much Divinity it takes... to break in."
Before anyone could respond, the invisible barrier shimmered once, and a lone figure stepped through it as effortlessly as strolling into open space.
