Chapter 111: Convergence In The Land Of Yomi (8)

SHKKKK!!!!!!

"Haha... you gotta be quicker than that!"

Jovian’s laugh rang out bright and carefree as the Fate Breaker Sword completed its arc.

The blade of condensed fate affinity flashed once — clean, almost lazy — and a Shadow Demon’s head parted from its shoulders in a spray of black blood that froze mid-air before dissolving into drifting ash.

The headless body tumbled through the open sky... still twitching.

Jovian hung effortlessly in the air at the heart of the main Star Union battlefield, long white hair whipping behind him with his pure white blindfold doing nothing to hide the wild smile on his face.

All around him the war raged in layered, vertical chaos.

The battlefield itself was a colossal landmass split cleanly down the middle by a scar of more than five light-years wide.

On one side rose the radiant gold-and-ivory strongholds of the Celestial Sun Pantheon.

On the other loomed the rotting, darkness-wreathed fortresses of the Dead Sun.

Between them stretched an endless killing field of open sky, sectioned by altitude like the layers of a monstrous cake.

Near the shattered ground far below, God King realm warriors fought in fierce, chaotic battles, trailed by Emperors and Empresses. Higher still, in Jovian’s current layer, Star Union forces stained the skies with blood.

Still higher, the pressure of Cosmic Union made the very atmosphere scream.

And somewhere far above even that, beyond the visible ceiling of the Underside, Amaterasu and Izanami’s eternal duel shook the fabric of reality itself.

The distance between layers was so vast that the higher battles never spilled downward; each altitude remained its own self-contained hell.

And much like everyone else who stepped into the Underside... Jovian had simply... appeared here.

Still, such a thing posed no real problem for a wielder of Fate.

One look through his Eyes of Heaven was all it took.

Across the sky stretched millions of invisible threads of fate—some shimmering with vitality and brilliance, others darkened with decay and the shadow of death.

He could see the stalemate, the sixty-era deadlock, the endless cycle where each death strengthened one side and each thriving life bolstered the other.

He noticed how the Celestial Sun forces, upon catching sight of a lone Human without their colors, chose to disregard him entirely, keeping their attention locked on their festering adversaries.

So, he shrugged, smiled, and decided to help.

Just because.

SHKKK!!!!

With another swing... A Vampire’s fate thread — the one that would have let it regenerate from a drop of blood— was cut clean.

The creature’s upper body continued its snarl for half a second before both halves realized they were already dead and crumbled.

WHOOOOSHHH!!!

WHOOOOSHH!!!!!

Jovian laughed again, twisting in mid-air as three Ghoul spears whistled past the space his heart had occupied a heartbeat earlier.

"Too slow... too damn slow!" he called cheerfully.

He didn’t fight like the disciplined Celestial Sun soldiers.

No... he danced.

[Severing Edge (Above Origin]

HUMMM!!!

In an instant, the Fate Breaker Sword blurred.

A single horizontal cut rippled outward in a perfect crescent of shimmering golden-white.

SHKKKK!!!!!

In front of him a cluster of three Ghouls, six Shadow Demons and two Dead Kami suddenly staggered as the invisible threads connecting them to their next five seconds of existence were cleanly severed.

Their bodies continued the motions they had already started — wings beating, claws swiping, mouths opening to roar — but the futures those actions belonged to no longer existed.

They just... froze.

In the same moment, their eyes went dull, empty.

Then, without warning, they plummeted from the sky like marionettes with their strings suddenly cut, dark blood streaming after them in long, unmoving ribbons that hung in the air.

Jovian spun with the momentum, white hair fanning out like a comet’s tail.

[Fate Affinity]

HUMMMM!!!!!

The millions of threads around his senses lit up even brighter in his perception.

He reached out with his will and flicked three thick black threads that had been feeding power into a massive Dead Kami commander’s regeneration.

The threads snapped with soft, almost musical notes.

The commander’s half-regenerated arm stopped mid-growth and rotted away instead.

SHKKKKK!!!!!

Confusion flashed across its hollow eyes for half a heartbeat — just long enough for three Celestial Sun spears of light to punch through its chest and pin it against the open air.

And... before they even finished the attack, Jovian was already gone.

He reappeared above a knot of Vampires that had been about to smash into a Celestial Sun formation.

SHKKK!!!! SHKK!!!! SHKKK!!!!

With three clean, precise cuts, the critical fate threads — the ones that would have let the Vampires slip through the incoming light barriers — were gone.

The Vampires slammed face-first into the radiant shields and were instantly incinerated, their screams cut short as their bodies turned to glittering ash.

A Dead Kami spear hurtled toward his blind spot, but Jovian didn’t bother to turn.

He just tilted his head, letting it slice through the vacant spot where his neck had been a heartbeat earlier—because the future in which it struck had already been cut away.

He laughed, bright and delighted.

"Fate is a bitch, isn’t it?"

He shot forward again, a white streak cutting the blood-stained sky.

All movement was loose, practically playful, yet every strike of the Fate Breaker Sword removed another piece of the Dead Sun’s tomorrow.

Much like with Sunya, little by little, the rotting line gave way. What had formerly been a solid wall of death and decay for ages began to crack, then fracture, and finally collapse.

ROOOAA—

The massive Dead Kami commander let out a bellow that quaked the air, trying to rally its forces. In a flash of white, Jovian appeared above it.

[Severing Edge (Above Origin)]

SHHKKKK!!!!

With one clean downward cut.

The thick, ancient fate thread that had been holding the entire local Dead Sun formation together — the one that guaranteed their coordinated counterattack — split with a noise like a giant harp string snapping.

The commander’s eyes grew wide in shock, mouth falling open, and at that moment the formation behind them unraveled.

Warriors glanced about in bewilderment, their solidarity breaking apart as yelled orders faltered and died mid-breath.

Seizing the moment, the Celestial Sun forces poured into the unexpected openings, their voices resounding with fierce, incredulous triumph.

"They’re breaking!"

"Push them! Push them now!"

The retreat started as a shake and became a full collapse.

Dead Kami, Vampires, Shadow Demons, and Ghouls turned then fled toward their distant dark stronghold in ragged, panicked waves.

Celestial Sun warriors roared and gave chase for a few victorious heartbeats before discipline reasserted itself, and they held the newly won stretch of sky.

Jovian floated to a stop in the sudden relative quiet of their layer, resting the Fate Breaker Sword on one shoulder.

He tilted his head, blindfolded gaze turned toward the far-off silhouette of the Dead Sun fortress, and smiled to himself, white hair drifting about him as pale fire.

"Well," he muttered cheerfully, breathing only a little harder than usual, "that was fun."
