Chapter 110: Convergence In The Land of Yomi (7)
Sunya drifted downward on a gentle current of wind and landed lightly on a newly forming platform of gold-white light.
Her Primordial bow dissolved into soft motes of green-gold that scattered like fireflies on the breeze.
All around her the Celestial Sun army was still erupting with stunned joy — warriors laughing, shouting, some openly weeping as the reality of the first victory in sixty eras sank in.
She approached the grizzled Sun Kami commander with the calm, regal grace of her kind.
Her long blond braid rested neatly over one shoulder, green eyes steady and composed. She offered a polite, precise incline of her head.
"Commander," she said, voice clear and elegant even over the lingering chaos of celebration. "I am Sunya Ultos, Goddess of the Eternal Hour, hailing from the Celestial Moon Pantheon."
The commander turned fully toward her.
For a moment he simply stared.
Even though they were both Star Union, the weight of her presence pressed against him like a gentle but unyielding tide.
It was heavier than it had any right to be for Tier Sixteen — elegant, ancient, and quietly overwhelming.
His radiant gold-and-white armor, still scarred and flecked with black blood, seemed suddenly less imposing beneath that calm green-eyed gaze.
Then his eyes finally settled on her.
’A... High Elf of the Celestial Moon Pantheon,’ he thought, as his eyes widened in surprise.
A beat later a deep, disbelieving laugh burst from his chest.
He lowered his spear and gave her a deep, respectful bow, the tension in his shoulders easing into something closer to awe mixed with understanding.
"Well..." he said, still chuckling under his breath.
"That explains the way you moved out there. And... I’m assuming you’re a Racial Goddess as well..."
"No wonder the left flank finally broke." He straightened, eyes shining with genuine respect.
"Your presence on the battlefield was the turning point, Goddess Sunya. We are in your debt."
He glanced around at the still-celebrating soldiers, then gestured with his spear toward a quieter stretch of open sky farther from the main formation.
"Come. This is not the place for the conversation we need to have."
Without waiting he pushed off the light platform and rose higher into the air.
Sunya followed smoothly, her braid trailing behind smoothly.
They flew a good distance away from the roaring celebration until the shouts and laughter faded into a distant hum.
Only the cold wind and the faint metallic scent of lingering blood remained between them.
There, suspended in the open sky with the endless battlefield stretching below, the commander finally turned to face her fully, expression growing serious once more.
The wind tugged at his scarred gold-and-white cloak as he studied her in silence for a long moment.
When he finally spoke, his voice was low and direct.
"I need you to explain something to me, Goddess Sunya. How does someone from the Celestial Moon Pantheon end up in the Orin Star System... and more than that—" his eyes narrowed slightly,
"How did you enter the Underside after so much time has passed? The paths have been sealed for eras."
Sunya’s green eyes remained calm, almost unreadable.
She did not answer immediately.
Instead, she let the silence stretch just long enough to measure him, the faint tilt of her head and the steady, unhurried way she held his gaze revealing the careful calculation beneath her regal composure.
One elegant brow arched, slow and deliberate, as if weighing how much truth the situation required.
When she finally spoke, her voice was soft, precise, and carried no wasted emotion.
"I’m here to speak with Supreme Goddess Amaterasu." She completely ignored everything that did not matter.
"It has been nearly sixty-four eras since you all have reached out to the Celestial Accord."
The commander’s reaction was immediate.
The moment her true purpose and the name of the Celestial Accord left her lips; the color drained from his face.
He straightened as if struck, then quickly lowered his head into a deep, apologetic bow, gold-and-white armor gleaming dully under the fractured light.
"I... overstepped, Goddess Sunya. Forgive my earlier questioning." His voice had lost much of its earlier confidence. When he raised his head again, his expression was grim.
"The reason we have not reached out is simple... and terrible. We have been at war since the 20th Era of Kalpa."
He let out a slow breath, eyes wandering toward the far-off, crimson-streaked horizon where the Dead Sun forces had finally withdrawn.
"There were always small clashes before that—just the usual tension between Light and Decay. But things didn’t turn truly nightmarish until the 20th Era.
That was when the war devoured everything in its path. So... We haven’t had the luxury of sending word to the Celestial Accord ever since."
Then... at the thought of Amaterasu his mouth tightened. He was silent for several long heartbeats, as though the next words physically pained him.
"...As for Supreme Goddess Amaterasu," he said at last, voice quieter, "I do not know her current status.
No one on these outer fronts does.
The only thing we know with certainty is that she and Supreme Goddess Izanami have been locked in direct battle ever since both sides arrived in the Underside.
Their fight has raged without pause for the entirety of these sixty eras. No messenger has reached them.... and no reinforcement has returned from that place."
Sunya remained perfectly composed.
Whatever thoughts moved behind her calm green eyes stayed hidden beneath the still surface of her expression.
Only the faintest tightening at the corner of her mouth betrayed any reaction at all.
When she spoke again her voice was as even and precise as before.
"Then direct me to your main base," she said. "If you have one."
The commander let out a short, rough chuckle that held little humor.
"Indeed, we have one, Goddess. Though I wouldn’t call it entirely safe. It sits directly across from the main stronghold of the Dead Kami.
The two fortresses have stared each other down across a killing field for eras. Crossing that stretch is never pleasant."
He lifted one gauntleted hand, and in a subtle flash, a small, finely detailed token of pure white gold appeared between his fingers.
Its surface was etched with the brilliant emblem of the Celestial Sun, catching the light as it gleamed. With a calm, deliberate motion, he extended it toward her.
"Crush this when you are ready. It will take you straight to the outer receiving platform of our headquarters."
Sunya took the token without a moment’s pause, its warmth seeping into her palm as it throbbed gently with a glow like captured light.
She dipped her head in a small, silent gesture of gratitude before curling her fingers around it, holding the faint pulse close.
Crack!
The token shattered into motes of golden light that swirled up her arm and enveloped her completely.
In the next breath the open sky, the commander, and the distant celebration vanished.
