Chapter 37: 37: Moon goddess
"What’s the female up to now...?" Luka asked, curious.
Eris shrugged. "She’s always up to something mischievous these days..."
The Chief Elder tried speaking. "What rubbish..."
But Sunnie raised her voice in command. "How dare an old man like you speak against the god’s messenger! Do you all seek death?"
Some shivered backwards as Sunnie raised her chin, glaring at the Chief Elder. "You want proof, right? Sure. I’ll show you."
Little Black was worried. "And how the hell are you going to do that...?"
"Just watch." Sunnie looked around. The closest thing she could see was fire. And she had an idea. She summoned her system shop for some chemicals and fireworks.
Without much thought, she spent a whole 500 heart coins on the purchase, especially because of the modern chemicals she was acquiring.
She knew she was going broke. She had about 1,500 coins left; she had to hurry up and get more from her husbands!
Sunnie quickly applied some chemicals on her hands without them noticing as she approached the flames.
Everyone stared curiously, wondering what she was up to, even Little Black.
She had seen this in some chemistry experiments, so she hoped it worked. She gently ran her hands through the flames without feeling pain.
Shock filled the atmosphere. "The fire doesn’t harm her?!"
"How’s that possible?"
"Doesn’t fire harm people terribly? How then is nothing happening to her?"
"Is she truly a messenger of the god?"
Even the Chief Elder stared in shock. Zuna was impressed, and the Clan Heir stared in amusement with a smile.
The beast husbands too were shocked at how she kept running her hands through the flames without anything happening.
Everyone was stunned.
And as though that wasn’t enough, Sunnie meticulously stepped backwards as she waved her hand at the flames. They only saw her hands; they didn’t notice the chemical she spilled into the flames.
The fire blazed more, growing massive as everyone stepped back in shock, gasping at the scene.
Soon, the fire turned blue and then green as a result of the chemical’s effect.
"What’s that....?"
"She can control the flames?!"
"That’s the work of a god!"
"How did the flames suddenly grow? How is it in another colour?"
"This is mystical indeed!"
"Who is she?"
Sunnie stood firmly as she smiled. She got out her final tricks, putting the fireworks into the fire and raising them into the sky.
All watched in anticipation. Soon, they took off into the sky and dispersed into different colours of loud lighting.
Everyone was gagged, staring at the sky in shock as the fireworks went off in an explosive manner. Different colours sparked into the sky, and some took the form of a lion.
"What’s that?!"
"That’s a miracle! She’s speaking through the heavens!"
"How’s this possible? What are those lights?"
"She really is a messenger.. or even a god!"
"How is it that we can see ourselves there?"
They were all impressed, staring into the sky in amusement and shock.
Sunnie smiled. Her coins were well spent, she believed.
After she was done with everything, she turned to the Chief Elder. "So? Are you doubting? Do you still want to harm me?"
The Chief Elder said nothing. He instantly went down to his knees, and they all soon followed without words!
It was an easy showcase on her side, but she had managed to convince these religious beastmen that she was a god or something. Pretty easy.
She smiled, watching them kneel before her.
"And who are you...? How did... who..." The Chief Elder stared at her in shock.
She smiled. "I’m...." She wanted to say she was a messenger, but then again she realised she wanted to also change a notion here. The notion of everything being male-centred. She wanted women saved from this system, and so she was going to start somewhere.
"I’m the moon goddess," she said, her chin up.
They all gasped as they stared up at her.
"Moon goddess?"
"Is that possible? Is there a female god at all?" a male asked. "Does it make sense?"
But Sunnie smiled. "Haven’t you seen? I’m right here before you and I’ve shown you all these works. And I’m also a female. Your male god didn’t show you all these, so why doubt that I’m a moon goddess?"
They stared at each other. Some were muttering and some were already nodding. The females had smiles on their faces, feeling proud. Especially Zuna.
And immediately, the Chief Elder said, "Ah! We have seen with our eyes and now we believe! All hail the presence of the moon goddess!"
They all chorused.
"All hail the presence of the moon goddess!"
"She is here to save us!"
"Our prayers have finally been answered!"
Sunnie blinked, staring at them. It actually felt good being venerated like this.
Little Black leaned closer. "I guess you’re good at lying after all."
Sunnie smiled. "Well, I didn’t lie though. God is also a woman."
The Chief Elder immediately got up to his feet and asked, "Now that you’re here, what would you like to be done for you?"
Sunnie folded her arms as she looked around. "Let’s start with something easy." She stared at her beast husbands. "Set them all free."
"....."
Everyone gasped.
"Huh? How could we? They are bad omens and sacrificing them will save our land," the Chief Elder explained.
Sunnie shook her head. "No. That’s not it at all. It’s wrong. Everything you’re facing has nothing to do with them at all. So set the innocent beastmen free, give them proper meals and take care of them."
He didn’t object. The Chief Elder nodded as he said, "Yes." He turned to the beastmen in charge. "Release them now!" They went to get it done.
The Chief Elder stared at Sunnie. "So? How do we cleanse the land to get our redemption from all the ills?"
Sunnie stared at him. "There’s only one cause of your problems here."
They all stared at Sunnie, curious.
"Huh? What is it...?" the Chief Elder inquired.
Sunnie hesitated before she said, "Your toxic patriarchal system."
