Chapter 27: 27: Oops?

Sunnie’s eyes were fixed on them as they ate. She watched as the two of them consumed the noodles while she eagerly anticipated their reactions.

Luka paused after taking his first bite. The noodles graced his tongue as he consumed them, and he felt a thousand pleasant flavors celebrating on his palate as the food traveled down his throat.

Luka gasped. He could not believe how magical the taste was. He found himself smiling while he saw an illusion of a thousand delightful tastes swirling around him.

Little Black felt the same. A smile broke out across his face as he tasted the meal. And then he took another bite, and another. It tasted so good that he simply could not stop.

The rest watched as Luka and Little Black munched on the food without saying a single word. That silence alone was enough to tell them that they were thoroughly enjoying the meal.

Sunnie smiled, feeling both proud and relieved. She looked at the others. "What are you guys waiting for?"

Eris then took a bite. He slowly nodded as he took another, and then yet another. Azure followed suit. The two of them had intrigued expressions on their faces. They were clearly fascinated by the delicacy set before them.

"What is this taste...?" Eris looked up at Sunnie. "I do not think I have ever tasted anything like this before..."

"Me too!" Luka looked up, his mouth filled with the noodles he was struggling to swallow. "How did you make this?"

Sunnie smiled, folding her arms proudly. "I just did." She turned her gaze to Zayn and Karl, who were still staring at their meals. "So, what is the wait?"

The two of them finally took a bite. One bite, and then another. They said nothing. They tried hard not to change their expressions in order to hide how fascinated they truly were.

They simply glanced at each other and then back down at their meals. They ate some more.

Sunnie smiled. She did not need them to tell her that they were enjoying the meal; it was already plainly evident.

She let the silence linger as the sounds of mouths munching on the noodles and chopsticks struggling to pick up noodles from the clay plates filled the cave room.

She, too, enjoyed her meal without speaking. She could not wait for the system to congratulate her on a job well done, and she eagerly anticipated the notification that her husbands’ affection percentages toward her had increased.

But before long, Azure suddenly coughed out the meal in his mouth, violently.

Everyone paused. All eyes fell upon Azure, who was now struggling to breathe. He placed a hand over his chest, and his pale face was rapidly turning red.

Azure coughed hard as the scales on his body stood on end.

"What is wrong? Are you okay?" Luka and Eris got up immediately and rushed over to check on him.

Azure could not speak. He was still struggling to breathe as the two of them helped him up to his feet. But almost immediately, his legs instantly disappeared and transformed into a tail, causing him to collapse back down to the ground.

He sat there on the ground, his tail moving in an uncomfortable, erratic manner while he continued to struggle for air. His body was growing red and hot, and he was sweating profusely.

Everyone was worried sick at the scene unfolding before them.

"What is happening to him?" Luka asked, his voice filled with concern.

Karl, on the other hand, stared at the meal and then turned his gaze sharply toward Sunnie. "What did you do to the meal?"

"What do you mean? Poison him? Why would I do that?"

Azure coughed hard again, and small particles of fish spilled from his mouth. He was coughing violently as his tail suddenly disappeared back into legs and then reverted into a tail once more, switching forms without any warning.

"Ah! He is allergic to fish!" Eris suddenly recalled.

"Huh?" Sunnie was speechless. "Since when...?" She had not known anything about that! She had blended the fish into the noodles in such a way that it was almost impossible to tell them apart, which was probably why he had not noticed it before eating.

Even while she was cooking, she had prepared it so thoroughly that it was difficult to tell that fish was even an ingredient.

The beast husbands cast cold glares in Sunnie’s direction.

"What?" Sunnie asked. "I honestly did not know!"

But they did not seem to believe her at all.

"I can already tell that you did it on purpose," Karl insisted. "You pretended as though you cared for us and wanted to feed us, and now this? I should have suspected something, since you have never cooked before."

"..." Sunnie was speechless as she rose to her feet. "Hey, I have no reason to poison him at all. I did not know—"

"That does not matter," Karl interrupted. "What matters now is that it is clear that your intentions are not genuine. And we cannot even trust you any further with anything."

He added, "Our marriage was just a casual punishment. So do not think too much about it, and do not take it too seriously. Feel free to leave whenever you wish."

He got up to his feet, and Zayn followed suit. They both looked at Azure, whom Eris and Luka were still trying to hold up. He was still reacting violently to the allergy.

[Ding!]

[Merman husband is having an allergic reaction to the fish, and his condition may worsen if proper treatment is not administered!]

[Solution: He needs to be placed in clean water for a couple of days so that everything can wash off.]

Sunnie felt like spanking this damn system! She could not believe the system had failed to provide her with such vital information as Azure’s fish allergy! Was discovering that sort of thing also supposed to be part of her responsibilities?

And now it was making announcements as though nothing had even happened!

"I know a way to treat him. I will take care of him," Sunnie offered immediately. She could not help but worry deeply about Azure, whose condition was only getting worse.

"No," Karl said firmly as he stared at her. "We do not need your help anymore. From now on, you can go your way, and we will go ours."

Karl then lifted Azure onto his back. "Let us go," Karl urged the others, and they all began to follow him.

They had lost every ounce of trust they had placed in Sunnie following the accidental food poisoning. That was just how fragile their trust in Sunnie was, and Sunnie understood it completely, since they had not been particularly close to begin with.

Now her beast husbands were leaving, and she stood there watching them walk out of the cave.
