Chapter 28: 28: Task Update.

As soon as they left, Sunnie’s system beeped.

[Ding!]

[Task failed: Your beast husbands were not so happy with the meal.]

Sunnie blinked at the system, nearly rolling her eyes. They had seemed happy enough—until the food poisoning incident, that is!

[As a result, you have lost the trust of your beast husbands.]

[Affection Percentage Update]

[Luka = 0%]

[Karl = 0%]

[Eris = 0%]

[Zayn = 0%]

[Azure = 0%]

Sunnie could not believe how quickly Azure’s affection percentage had dropped to zero! It had been at twenty-two just a short while ago. And now she was back to square one!

She felt her legs grow weak as she wondered what else would follow now.

"Stupid system..." she mumbled beneath her breath as she felt something tapping her by her legs. Sunnie looked down to see Little Black staring up at her with his big, round eyes.

Sunnie flashed him a warm smile. "You got to witness all of that."

Little Black blinked. "At least now you are free and can escape from them!"

She scoffed. She did not know whether she could celebrate that.

But what Sunnie decided that night was this: if her husbands did not want her, then she did not want them either!

She sat down with Little Black, and they continued to enjoy the noodles together. She would not run after them. She could not!

Back in modern times, she had been the one whom men pursued, asking for her number while she casually turned them down. It was never the other way around!

So now she declared, while she enjoyed her noodles with Little Black, "I am not going after them!"

Little Black nodded in firm agreement. "Free from them!"

But Sunnie could not help worrying about Azure. She wondered how he was doing and whether the others would be able to treat him properly.

Did they know what he needed? Could they take him to clean water? Was there even any clean water around here? Would something terrible happen to Azure?

She could not stop herself from worrying about him.

Sunnie and Little Black slept in the cave that night. They were awakened by a strange sound coming from outside.

Sunnie slowly opened her eyes as the sound grew closer and louder. "What is that?" she thought.

Little Black, who had been sleeping close to her, also stirred and looked around. He rubbed his little paws against his eyes, his long black ears resting flat against his back.

Sunnie slowly got to her feet, and Little Black lazily followed behind her. The two of them cautiously approached the cave’s entrance to see what was happening.

Sunnie peeked outside and gasped in shock.

The sight of the boars sent a chill down her spine! She could not believe that there were up to twenty wild, filthy boars standing right outside their cave.

They grunted and snorted loudly as they roamed around, seemingly looking for something to destroy or seize.

Sunnie panicked and held Little Black close. "What the hell is happening...?"

"Those damn boars," Little Black bit his lower lip, his ears standing tall and alert just like Sunnie’s. All traces of sleep had vanished from his eyes. "They are always trouble wherever they go!"

"But why are they here?" Sunnie was terrified of whatever destruction they were capable of causing. She was most afraid that they might end up eating her!

"I bet your husbands invaded their territory and destroyed something. Now the boars have traced them back here to get their revenge," Little Black explained.

Sunnie gasped. Even after her husbands had left, they were still bringing trouble to her doorstep! How could she possibly be free from them?

She could not help but imagine how the wild husbands must have rampaged through the boars’ land in search of a solution for Azure. They must have torn down everything in their path while searching!

"What do we do now?" Sunnie asked.

"We just pray they do not see us," Little Black said while stepping backward. "Because if they do..."

He accidentally stepped on a twig, and the sharp cracking sound was enough to capture the boars’ attention. They all turned and stared in the direction of the cave’s entrance, where Sunnie and Little Black were peeking out.

"Oh no. Now we are doomed," Little Black panicked.

Sunnie gasped. She could not believe how many times she had been forced to run from wild beasts in this cursed, uncivilized land! How long was this going to continue?!

A boar charged in their direction, barreling its way into the cave. Sunnie and Little Black ran for their dear lives, darting up, down, left, and right to dodge its relentless attacks.

Their legs suddenly felt swift as they ran and leaped for safety. The boar dashed from corner to corner, smashing itself against the walls and rocks while struggling to catch them. It even destroyed the bag of flour and other supplies Sunnie had obtained from the system.

Sunnie feared that if the boar continued smashing itself against the walls like that, the entire cave might collapse!

Sunnie and Little Black soon managed to escape from the cave and rushed outside. But that was hardly any safer, as a handful of boars were waiting for them there.

Sunnie panted heavily. "Oh, this is bad..."

They separated, with Sunnie running to the right and Little Black running to the left. The two of them ran and jumped as though there were no tomorrow while the boars violently chased after them.

Sunnie had not known she could run this fast! But she knew she could not keep up this pace for long. These boars would surely catch them soon enough!

But luckily, the chase did not last long. The boars suddenly came to an abrupt stop after hearing a loud, menacing growl.

They turned and stared at a huge, silver-colored wolf that was slowly approaching them. The wolf looked aggressive and appeared fully capable of devouring these boars at any moment.

The boars pulled back, and soon they all dispersed, fleeing in every direction into the woods. Within moments, they were completely out of sight.

Sunnie let out a loud sigh of relief as she collapsed onto her tail, panting heavily while fanning herself with her hand.

"That was close..." she mumbled as she looked up and saw the wolf.

She stiffened again. Was this the same wolf from the previous night? What was it doing here again?!

A thousand thoughts raced through Sunnie’s mind as she watched the wolf approach, slowly and steadily.
