Chapter 25: 25: Cooking II
Sunnie purchased another clay pot from the system. It cost 100 heart coins.
She used the deeply boiled water to prepare a fresh pot of boiling water for the noodles. Then, while the water was heating up, Sunnie also prepared the fish.
Once the water had reached a rolling boil, Sunnie added the thin dough and let them cook thoroughly. She stirred the mixture with a stick while she watched it take shape. Even Sunnie was impressed by how well it was turning out. "I guess you really can prepare this in prehistoric times," she mused to herself.
It did not look quite as refined as the version she would have made back at home, but this was still more than acceptable. Sunnie added the seasonings and the fish as time went on, allowing the rich aroma to fill the surrounding atmosphere.
She could only pray that no monsters would come to investigate the scent as well.
Azure had soon joined the others. He sat down on the floor and watched the noodles take on an impressive form. He had never seen anything like this before; it was entirely new knowledge to him. So he sat there like a curious child, and the four of them stared intently at the boiling pot.
---
"Done!" Sunnie was proud of her creation as she announced it. She watched as its aroma drifted further into the forest.
The four were still seated on the ground, watching.
"What is that?" Eris had his eyes glued to the pot.
"That is a miracle meal," Little Black declared. His eyes met Eris’s.
"I will eat you for the miracle meal," Eris teased, causing Little Black to quickly scramble to his feet and hop behind Sunnie for protection.
Eris smiled proudly as he rose to his feet. The others did the same.
"Now, let us get ready to go inside and eat it," Sunnie said with a smile.
"Do I have to go in there? Just wrap mine up. I will take it back and eat alone," Little Black insisted.
Sunnie looked down at the little bunny and gently tapped him on the ear. "No. You should not stay alone out there. You should come and enjoy it together with us." She smiled warmly. "Don’t worry. They will not harm you. They are not as bad as people say. It is all lies. They will not harm you."
The three beastmen stared at Sunnie, moved by her speaking in their defense once again. They were still not accustomed to having someone who did not view them as evil, malicious beings.
[Ding!]
[Beast Husbands are moved.]
[Bonus reward: + 300 heart coins!]
Sunnie smiled at the little bunny. "So stay and enjoy the meal with us, okay?"
He hesitated, glancing warily at the beast husbands before he reluctantly nodded, his ears drooping backward.
"Now, to get the others..." Sunnie sighed, looking around. She was trying to think of a way to bring the other beast husbands back for dinner.
She did not even know where they were, let alone how to summon them back.
But while she was contemplating what to do, they heard a sound from the distance.
It was an odd sound. And it came from the bushes close by.
Alert, they all turned toward the direction of the noise. It was nearly nightfall, so it was almost impossible to see clearly. But the fire was still burning, providing at least some visibility.
"What is that?" Luka asked while they peered into the woods.
Little Black sniffed, his nose pointed upward. "Oh no..." he panicked. "It’s it!"
"What is ’it’?" Sunnie asked.
"The evil wolf—" Before Little Black could finish his sentence, a huge, ash-colored wolf leaped out of the bushes.
Sunnie panicked, instinctively pulling backward along with Little Black and the other husbands as they observed from a safe distance.
It was a wild wolf. Its fur and body were rough and stuck out in all directions. It had several visible injuries across its body, but this wild wolf did not seem to care about them in the slightest.
Its eyes were vicious. They were yellow and gleamed into the night, bright enough to be seen even in the growing darkness. And its sharp fangs and teeth, which it displayed openly, were terrifying enough on their own. It drooled as it growled, slowly approaching while its claws extended, ready to pounce.
"Oh no, oh no, oh no," Little Black panicked. "I have always dreaded this day. I have never wanted to meet the vicious evil wolf!"
Little Black added, "I have only seen it once before, and it ate up some other animals alive! He is said to be really vicious, wild, and dominating. No one prays to meet him! We are doomed."
Little Black had rushed to hide behind Luka while peeking out cautiously.
Sunnie stood in front, observing this wolf that was drawing nearer. She was scared. Extremely scared—so much so that she felt she might wet her loincloth!
But she could not help noticing the wolf’s eyes and nose. They were moving toward the direction of her meal. The wolf was staring at and sniffing at her cooking. It was now obvious to Sunnie that the aroma of her meal was what had drawn him here.
Sunnie stared and thought carefully.
The wolf came closer, growling as it prepared to pounce on them.
The three beastmen behind her were already planning how they would attack and overpower the monstrous creature.
But before they could act, Zayn dashed out of the bushes. In a single flash, he punched the wolf squarely in the face and sent it flying off to the side.
The wolf collided with a tree and staggered back to its feet. But before it could fully recover, Karl flew down from the sky and kicked it hard on its back.
The wolf staggered again, struggling to stand firm on its feet, but it ended up slumping heavily onto its stomach.
It was probably a rare sight, but Sunnie was surprised to see Karl and Zayn working together to beat down the wolf. They were not fighting each other this time; they were actually teaming up!
Karl soared through the sky and smashed the wolf from one side to the other, while Zayn moved swiftly on land, punching and kicking the wolf until it grew weak and collapsed against the base of a tree, its back pressed against the trunk.
Sunnie stood there with the others, watching the scene unfold. She knew she should feel relieved since she was being saved from this monster, but she could not help feeling a pang of sympathy for the wolf.
Especially after noticing how intently it had been staring at her meal. She felt foolish for feeling this way, but she could not help it.
