Chapter 24: 24: Cooking I

"Let me go! Let me go! You!" Little Black kicked and kicked, struggling furiously to escape. "I will beat you up! Let me go!"

Eris stared at the little thing, watching him struggle to set himself free. He casually smiled at him. "Really? You are going to beat me up? Why don’t you try it now?"

Eris enjoyed watching the little one struggle to escape.

"Monster! Let me go!" Little Black continued to struggle.

"I don’t want to let go. Rather, I want to eat you." Eris smiled, teasing the little rabbit. Little Black panicked even more. He could not believe he was going to die at the hands of the notorious beast husbands!

"No! Let me go! I won’t let you eat me!" Little Black kicked wildly. "Sunnie, run! Don’t let this ugly monster get to you! I will protect you!"

Sunnie simply blinked.

"Ugly?" Eris tilted his head. "Do I look ugly to you, little thing?"

Little Black glared at his face. "I am not little!"

Eris smiled. "Maybe I should eat you up to see if that is true."

"Let me go!"

Sunnie finally intervened. "Stop teasing the kid. He means no harm." She added, "I am sorry if he spoke ill of you all. He does not know much. He is still a kid."

Eris smiled. "Sure. If you say so, female." Eris smiled as he released his grip on the little bunny.

Little Black jumped down and quickly hopped toward Sunnie. He went to hide behind her while he declared, "Why are you standing up for them? You should run. And I am not a kid!"

Sunnie shook her head with a smile while staring at the three beastmen before her.

Azure observed everything she had returned with. "You did manage to get a lot of things."

She nodded. "Yes. Like I said, I will be preparing something for dinner. It is already getting late. Where are the others?"

Eris folded his arms as Luka answered. "Still not back."

"You should give up. I do not think they will be back to have the meal. They get their meals outside. They do not join," Eris explained.

Azure quietly observed the exchange.

Sunnie hesitated, her thoughts swirling. She could not have gathered all of this in vain. She would find a way to get them to join, by any means necessary!

"Don’t worry. I will find a way," she smiled as she turned to begin making preparations for the meal.

Luka and Eris stared at each other and then stared at her, surprised. They had thought she would give up easily after hearing that, but she was still persistent.

Now they were curious to see how she would manage to do it.

Sunnie opened the system store to obtain the other ingredients that she had not been able to find in the woods. The system displayed a list of the additional items she would need along with their prices.

[Flour]

She debated between going for a bowl of flour, which cost just 50 heart coins, or a full bag. She ended up choosing a bag of flour for 500 heart coins. She figured she would need it for future meals as well. It appeared in a shabby sack.

[Salt]

Sunnie selected a jar of salt, which appeared in a container. It cost 100 heart coins.

[Oil]

She chose a bottle of oil for 200 heart coins.

[Successful purchase complete!]

[Items: A bag of Flour, A container of salt, A bottle of oil]

[Total: 800 heart coins]

Sunnie dreaded how quickly her heart coins were depleting! But she could only hope that she would earn more from serving them this meal!

"Are you making the nufus?" Luka asked, his arms crossed as he watched her with curiosity.

Sunnie casually nodded. "Yep. I promised you I would make it. So you will just have to sit back and anticipate."

A smile flashed across Luka’s face. Sunnie guessed that he truly was anticipating anything edible.

[Ding!]

[Luka is moved to joy by your gesture.]

Little Black stood behind Sunnie as she brought out the ingredients she had gathered. "Are you really preparing it for them?"

She smiled. "Yes."

He pouted. "You will not escape from them, then?"

Sunnie gently patted him on the ears. "Don’t worry. They are not bad at all. Okay?"

Little Black remained skeptical.

"Would you need any help?" Azure casually asked. "I might know a thing or two about cooking."

Sunnie glanced at him. "You are still recovering, so don’t worry. Just relax, and I will handle it," she insisted.

And so the three of them ended up standing there, watching Sunnie prepare the meal.

Sunnie first made a fire. Then she placed the clay pot filled with water over the fire and boiled it thoroughly until the water was clean enough for use.

Sunnie then gathered the necessary ingredients: the flour, the eggs, salt, oil, and some vegetables. She blended them together in a stone she had found that had a natural opening. She had washed it clean before use.

Sunnie proceeded to mix everything together with caution until the mixture was smooth and had formed a soft, elastic dough.

"Whoa, what is that?" Luka and Little Black were sitting on the ground like eager children, staring curiously at the elastic dough Sunnie was pulling and kneading.

"It looks so..." Luka was impressed. "Wow. Can I eat it already?"

Little Black blinked, his stomach grumbling audibly. "What is that?"

Sunnie smiled at their curious gazes. Meanwhile, Eris and Azure stood at a distance, observing like the adults they were. Luka and Little Black, however, sat down close to her, their eyes following every move she made.

"Not yet. You cannot eat it," Sunnie explained. "It is the base ingredient for our meal."

Sunnie proceeded to flatten the dough onto a rock. Then she used a sharp stone to slice it into thin, long pieces, decent enough to be used as noodles.

Luka and Eris watched, clearly impressed. Eris had now joined them, sitting on the floor and letting his eyes follow her movements like a curious child.

"What is that?" Eris asked. "Is that some sort of cooking trick from the rabbit tribe?"

Sunnie smiled. "Well, no. I learned this somewhere special."

Eris watched as she floured the dough while cutting it into thin pieces. Soon, she had finished that step and moved on to boiling the water.
