Chapter 23: 23: Fishing II
Sunnie summoned the system and opened the system store.
She needed something she could work with, and the system promptly displayed a series of fish snacks that could be used as bait.
Sunnie selected one that cost 100 heart coins, which came wrapped in a small leaf. She was not planning to catch a huge amount of fish, so this would be sufficient.
"Try this," Sunnie said, handing Little Black the substance. "I think it will work."
He stared at it for a second. "How sure are you? I have been here for ages."
"Just trust me," she smiled.
Little Black sighed as he pulled out the rope and fixed the substance she had given him onto the tip of it. He tossed it back into the water and sat there, waiting for something to happen.
A minute passed. Then two, then three. And then, in the fifth minute, something took the bait!
"Oh!" Sunnie blinked, her excitement rising.
Little Black held firmly onto the stick, ready to pull out whatever had taken the bait. But it was not going to be that easy!
Something else grabbed the bait! And then another! And yet another! Before long, Little Black was struggling to pull the stick out of the water!
"What is that?!" Little Black panicked as he scrambled to his feet, struggling to pull against the weight. But the force beneath the surface was stronger than he had anticipated.
"Let me help you!" Sunnie panicked, her ears and tail standing tall and alert.
"No! I can do it on my own!" Little Black insisted. He stood tall, pulling the rope with all his might, but the rope only seemed to grow heavier!
"I can do it on my own!" he yelled firmly as he pulled with every ounce of strength he possessed. And then, he did it.
He yanked the rope out of the water, and ten fish came flying out with it, their mouths glued to the rope from different angles. The fish were swung out of the water and onto the ground, where they danced and flopped on the bare earth, gasping for breath.
But unfortunately for Little Black, he lost his balance in the process and found himself staggering straight into the water with a loud thud!
Sunnie panicked, staring down into the water. She watched the surface ripple and move, and soon Little Black poked his head out. His fur was soaked, and his long ears had flopped backward.
"Are you okay...?" Sunnie managed to ask.
Little Black stared at her. "No. I think I just drank fish water!" he snapped, punctuating his frustration with a loud sneeze.
---
Little Black was able to dry off after several minutes of walking under the harsh sun in the area. Sunnie purchased another sack for 100 heart coins, and he placed the fish inside it.
She carried the sack herself along with the clay pot while they headed back.
"Are you sure you will be okay?" She glanced at the little rabbit, who had been sneezing ever since they left the riverside.
"Don’t worry! I will be fine. It is not my first time falling into a fish pond," he insisted, claiming he was perfectly fine.
Sunnie supposed she had to believe him.
The system had requested that she obtain some eggs for the next set of requirements. And Sunnie guessed that this would be the easiest task of all.
She did not need to do anything complicated for it. She simply told Little Black about it, and he responded immediately.
"That! I know where to get it."
And Little Black was soon gone. He returned shortly with about ten eggs in a small clay container. "Will this do?"
Sunnie stared at him. "How did you get this?"
"There is a lazy chicken that sleeps all day and lays eggs all day around here. I only borrowed some from her. She probably will not even notice."
"..."
"Borrowed? Are you sure that is okay?"
"Yep!" Little Black nodded confidently. "She never cares about them anyway. And I have had some of them before. They are safe to consume!" he confirmed.
And so they continued on their way.
---
They had gathered everything they needed from the woods in preparation for the meal. And so they made their way back to the cave.
They arrived at the cave, and Sunnie did not see anyone outside. She wondered if they were inside or if they had run off as well.
"You stay here?" Little Black asked.
She nodded. "Mmmm."
"Hmmm. I have been around this area before, and I have always thought it was a scary place to be."
"Why?" Sunnie asked.
Little Black folded his arms and shook his head. "Nothing in particular. It is just that I have seen some scary animals move in this direction before."
"..."
Sunnie panicked. "Huh?"
"Do you live alone?"
"No. I live with my... husbands." She had to get used to saying that word.
"..."
Little Black blinked. "Huh? You mean the cursed ones?"
"Eh..."
"You should run away while you still can!" Little Black panicked on behalf of Sunnie. "I have heard they are scary and evil! And they can eat you alive! You should run away while you can now so you do not become their next prey!"
He was trying to warn Sunnie against her own husbands, but he did not realize that Eris, Azure, and Luka had just made their way out of the cave.
They had overheard noises and immediately came out to check if the female had returned.
And then they saw another little black bunny blabbing about them.
They were standing directly behind Little Black, so he did not see them. He kept talking and talking, spouting all the endless rumors he had heard about her husbands!
"They are so scary! I heard they have ugly scars on their faces that make them look like monsters! How frightening! Not worth it at all! So leave now and be safe!" he warned heavily.
But Sunnie stared at him and then glanced up at the husbands standing behind him, looking down at the little bunny. She wanted to tell him to stop, but he was blabbing all the more.
"Don’t worry! If you are too scared to run, just tell me! I will help you! I will even beat up those scary husbands so you can escape freely!" Little Black stated confidently.
But Eris bent down and picked up the little rabbit by the collar of his neck, lifting him clean off the ground.
"Are you sure you can do that, little one? You do know we have ears to hear all of that, don’t you?" Eris raised an eyebrow.
Little Black stiffened. Shock ran down his veins. It took him a moment to come to full realization, and when he slowly turned to meet the faces of those very husbands staring coldly at him, he panicked.
"Ahhhh!!!!"
