Chapter 222: 222: Took You Long Enough

Sunnie scoffed as she rolled her eyes. "Whatever. Keep dreaming, then."

He smiled as he pulled her closer to rest on his chest while staring into the walls. "But I already have you. I have Luka and the rest... and everyone here now. I have this home now. So I think I’m already okay." He smiled. "I already have people who love and support me... people who genuinely make me happy now. So I guess I’ll be fine. I don’t have to think about those things."

Sunnie smiled with a nod. "That’s good... that’s good." The two of them lay cuddled there while staring into the distance, their thoughts running far.

Just then, Luka and Azure approached. Or rather, Luka was approaching.

Luka had had the most uncomfortable sleep yet where he had lain with the other beast husbands, so he wasn’t happy at all. He made his way to the cave room with complaints.

"I can’t believe he took the whole room for himself and didn’t even let us in all night," Luka complained, approaching. "I had the most terrible sleep there. I mean, my whole waist is aching now."

Azure moved after him. "Hey, come back. Where are you even going?"

"Where else?! I’m going to go and show that Eris who’s boss. Next time, he won’t take the whole room to himself!" Luka snapped as he made his way into the cave. Azure, who was trying to stop him, had no choice but to follow.

Soon, the two of them were there, standing before Sunnie and Eris, who were lying close in bed, naked with the sheets over them.

As soon as they entered, Sunnie and Eris paused, staring up at them without much emotion on their faces.

Luka, on the other hand, was shocked. His jaw almost dropped at the sight as Azure covered his mouth. "I told you let’s go."

Luka blinked while he processed what had just happened. It now made sense to him. "So... this... that’s why... wait..."

Eris smiled as he teased, "Took you long enough. So what now? Would you like to join us since you’re already here, or?" He teased further as Luka’s cheeks went pink.

Azure pulled him back. "We’ll be off now. Enjoy." He smiled as he pulled Luka out, and the two left.

Azure and Luka came out as Luka stared into the distance for a while, blinking and thinking. "Oh, so that’s it... I should have known."

Azure shook his head, folding his arms. "Took you long enough, then."

Just then, they saw Maren and Ronan approach. Maren, who was now looking more mature, stood there with both arms folded while her younger brother was covered in mud.

"Papa, Mama, look!" Ronan smiled as he approached Luka to show him the little frog he had caught.

Behind them was Karl. Karl had been saddled with the responsibility of taking the kids out that morning, and Luka guessed Karl couldn’t handle the kids at all. Ronan managed to get covered in mud while Karl himself had gotten stained in mud.

Luka smiled at what Ronan had in his hand while soothing his hair. "That’s good." He paused as he looked up at Karl, who was also covered in mud. Karl stood there without saying anything, arms folded as he stared coldly. He certainly didn’t like the job he was given. He was not the best at taking care of cubs at all.

"Papa," Maren said. "I don’t want to play such games anymore with Ronan. He always wants to get me covered in mud. I’m already a big mermaid. I don’t want to play such games with him anymore." She protested to Ronan.

But Ronan casually stuck out his tongue at her, teasing her as Maren rolled her eyes. "I’m not talking to you anymore," she said.

Ronan smiled as he calmed the two bickering kids down. Then he stared up at Karl. "Why are you also covered in mud?"

Karl was quiet for a while before he said, "I never said I could take care of cubs."

Azure smiled as Karl stared at him. "What’s funny?"

"Nothing," Azure shrugged.

Ronan said, "Papa! Where’s Mama? I want to show Mama too!"

"I want to report to Mama too!" Maren insisted as the two of them struggled to make their way past them and into the cave.

But Luka immediately grabbed the two kids and pulled them back. "No! You can’t go in at all."

"...." They stared at him.

"Why?"

Luka smiled. "Mama is sick and can’t meet anyone. She’s still asleep, so don’t disturb her. Okay?"

The two children blinked at him for a while as Ronan sighed with a sad pout. "Okay then, I guess I’ll have to wait."

Maren insisted, "I can go and take care of Mama. I’m older now, and she’ll want me around."

"No... you can’t. She’s still asleep, so maybe when she wakes up. Okay?" Luka insisted on keeping the little ones away. He stared up at Karl. "Why don’t you take them off for a bath or something?"

Karl raised an eyebrow, glaring at Luka. "A bath?" He scoffed. "What do I look like to you? A nanny?"

Luka pouted while giving Karl the puppy eyes. "Please... help me with this."

Karl hesitated with both arms folded as he turned to Ronan. "Come on, let’s go get you cleaned up."

"But I don’t want to bathe..."

"You have to. So let’s go." Karl said as he swept the little one off his feet and carried him in his hands while heading off against the kid’s wishes.

"No! No baths! No!" Ronan simply protested while they took him off. But Karl didn’t bother; he was bent on washing off the dirt from Ronan and himself too.

Luka smiled at Maren. "And you, why don’t we go and play some more mature games? Like puzzles and stuff?"

Maren blinked at Luka as she said, "I’m bored of that already."

"Eh, so what do you want to do now?" Luka asked.

"I want to cook!"

"...." Azure and Luka stared at each other. Neither of them could cook.

"Okay, then..." Luka smiled. "Let’s go and meet Auntie Elza for that." He took Maren’s hand, and they left.
