Chapter 20: 20: Not Little!

Little Black added, "That big monster is all talk and no bite. All he does is scare people into submitting and then feed on them! But raise a fire to his face, and he flees! How spineless, if you ask me." He had already dropped the fire while crossing his arms.

Sunnie nodded. "Interesting. How have you been here for so long though?"

Little Black sighed. "No need to know. I just grew up here and learned to survive on my own." He stared at her. "And you? You don’t look like you belong here."

Sunnie blinked. "Eh, no. I just moved in..." She didn’t know if that was the right thing to say though. "And I’m looking for resources to cook a proper meal with."

"....."

Little Black was shocked. "Moved? Who is dumb enough to want to move in here to stay?"

Sunnie guessed her and her system were.

"You probably can’t survive here that long, so you should leave! And you clearly won’t find anything good to make food from here too." He shook his head.

Sunnie nodded. "Too bad I can’t leave."

"Why?" His big eyes were curious.

Sunnie thought of what to say before she added, "Well..." She played with her ears. "I’m an infamous rabbit known to bring bad luck and all... So probably no one wants me."

Little Black blinked. "Oh! You’re that rabbit that led to the death of people around her and her husband!"

"You know about that?" She was surprised since he grew up here.

Little Black nodded. "Of course. I hear things from the outside world too. You really have a bad history along with your vicious husbands. It’s obvious no one wants you. So maybe here is right for you after all."

Sunnie stared at him. She didn’t know if that was a compliment or what.

"So why don’t you go outside if you can?" She asked.

The little bunny bit his lower lip, eyes down as he shook his head. "No. I’m fine. I’m already used to it here."

Sunnie didn’t wish to probe further.

"So you want to make a meal?"

"Water," Sunnie said as she made her way to the stream again. The snake was gone, so she believed she was safe for the meantime. "Is there another stream around here or a cleaner source of water maybe?"

The little bunny shook his head. "You can’t find good water around here. They’re all contaminated like this one. So give up already."

Giving up wasn’t in her calendar. She needed to complete the system’s absurd task. "Well then, I guess I’ll have to make do with this one."

Little Black stared at her. "Huh? How’s that possible? This will kill you if you cook with it. Your body is probably not used to it."

"I’ll find a way to make it clean. Deep boil or something," she said as she looked around. Sunnie couldn’t find a pot to carry the water in.

She didn’t come prepared for it, so she summoned the system.

"I need a pot for the water," she said.

The system shop was opened and varieties of pot options appeared. There were modern and better looking pots she could actually make use of.

But they were all expensive:

1000 heart coins!

2000 heart coins!

5000 heart coins!

She’d be broke if she went for that as what she had was around 3000+ coins.

She sighed and went for the cheapest which was like 100 heart coins.

It was an ordinary looking clay pot that could potentially shatter if not handled well. She guessed she’d have to be careful with it.

She got it.

"....." Sunnie was speechless at the description.

The system directed her where the pot would appear, and she went and retrieved it there.

"Wow. You have a pot," Little Black stared at the pot like a curious little bunny.

Sunnie smiled. "Yes. Came with it to get water."

"Are you sure about this water for cooking?" The little bunny confirmed.

Sunnie shrugged. "It’s not like I have a choice."

She opened the pot and carefully scooped some water into it. She was careful not to let the water touch her to avoid some irritation on her body.

When she was done, she closed the pot and held it close to her side. "Done. Now to get the other stuff."

[Ding!]

[Water successfully acquired]

[Now for the next requirements: Some flavouring materials/enhancements]

The system presented a list of flavourings she needed to get. They were optional but still required to make a delicious meal that would satisfy her husbands!

[Carrots, cabbages, leafy greens]

[Mushrooms]

[Garlic, onion, ginger]

[Dried herbs]

[Seasoning powder]

[Chicken, beef, or fish]

Sunnie went through the list of all these and wondered how the fuck she was supposed to get it!

But the system let her know that some might not be available and some might have possible alternatives she could work with.

Sunnie sighed with a nod. "I guess I have to work for it then."

She turned to the little one. "Hey, you’ve been here for long, right, and you know your way around?"

Little Black nodded. "Yes. Why?"

Sunnie smiled. "Can you help me do some picking of ingredients for my meal around here?"

He hesitated, folded his arms, looked around and raised his chin. "I’m busy with other things. I can’t."

"Busy with?"

"...."

Sunnie smiled. "Don’t worry. If you help me, I’ll share my delicious meal with you. And I’ll also share subsequent delicious meals with you." She knew the kid was craving some real food.

Little Black acted as though he didn’t. But his singing stomach gave him away immediately.

Sunnie smiled as she asked, "So? What’s it going to be? Want to come with me?"

Little Black stared at her for a while and then said, "I’m only going because you’re new here and I don’t want you to get eaten by a snake or something!"

She smiled, nodding. "Sure, sure. Thanks, little one."

"I’m not little one!" He protested.
