Chapter 19: 19: Little Black

The creature drew closer and closer through the waters without Sunnie’s knowledge, close enough to jump at the little rabbit prey and eat it up.

But before it could do so, a sharp voice pierced through the silence.

"Watch out!"

Sunnie immediately pulled back as a huge snake emerged out of the water. Its body was as big as a normal human’s body times two. The green snake ran its tongue at Sunnie.

But she had already escaped. Sunnie had moved backwards as she fell on her tail, staring up at the monstrous snake.

The snake raised its head high and then brought it down to attack Sunnie who was on land. But Sunnie heard the same sharp voice.

"Run!"

She didn’t see who this was and didn’t care to see this person. She instantly darted to the side and avoided the snake’s attack.

As Sunnie moved to the side, the snake too moved its head and tongue in her direction, aiming for another strike.

Sunnie could tell she was the next target. And running as fast as her little legs could carry her wasn’t going to help.

The long snake still had its tail in the water as it struck its neck and tongue towards her. Sunnie flew to the side and rolled on the ground. She dodged the hit but the snake wasn’t stopping.

"Fuck!" She cursed as she felt her knees bruise while she rolled through the ground. Sunnie had hidden behind a bush she wasn’t even sure was safe!

The snake was still coming for her, she was sure. Where she hid wasn’t that far.

The snake left the water and now crawled in that direction. Its nose could sniff her out; she was wearing the flower scent she had applied that morning to smell good at least without bathing.

Now as the snake pulled closer, Sunnie regretted her choice! Now she understood why it was bad to have a scent stand out in the woods!

She pulled deep into the bushes, holding her breath and thinking of a way to survive this. The snake continued pulling closer nevertheless.

But before this snake could strike, Sunnie heard a loud, unpleasant hiss from it.

"Back off you big monster!"

Sunnie heard that sharp voice that warned her. Curious, she peeped through the woods to see who this was.

She saw a little boy. A little bunny. This boy looked like he was seven years old or even ten through his actions, but his body was indeed as small as a baby’s!

But he was proactive and strong with his movements. This little one wielded a stick of fire firmly in his hand, using it to scare off the huge snake as if it was nothing!

Hiss!!

Hiss!!

Hiss!!

The snake cried as it pushed backwards and backwards.

"Back off!" The little one spoke so boldly that Sunnie couldn’t help but wonder if this was a cub or an adult or something!

He waved it closer and closer as the snake pulled back and soon disappeared into the bushes close by.

The atmosphere soon grew quiet as the little one held the stick still fused with fire. He stared at the bush through which the snake disappeared and then sighed. "That was close."

Sunnie slowly came out of her hiding to admire this little one. It was a rabbit beastman as well. Or a beast cub?

He had a little boy’s body, with black rabbit ears sticking from the top of his head. His ears were tall enough to sweep the floor! This little one also had an adorable black tail that felt so fluffy to touch.

He was wearing some rough animal skin and leaf combination for clothing which covered roughly from the top to around his tiny waist and laps.

His face was somewhat little like a little boy’s. His eyes were big and shiny. And his mouth was fairly little. Sunnie couldn’t help but find this little one adorable!

She smiled. "Hey there little one, thanks for saving me," she smiled brightly as she approached.

But this little one frowned slightly. "I’m not a little one. I’m a big boy!" He insisted.

Sunnie couldn’t help but smile again. Adorable indeed.

"Oh, I see. Then how may I address you, little one?" She made the mistake again. And she could see the frown on his face. "Ah, big boy..."

The little bunny pouted and then said, "I don’t have a name."

"...."

"Huh?" Sunnie blinked. "Why? Everyone has a name."

The bunny folded his arms. "I grew up alone and live here alone. So I don’t see the need for it."

"...."

Sunnie didn’t know if she was to feel pity or shock for him. This evil forest doesn’t look favourable to spend a day in at all.

And he had been staying here since like how long?

"Oh," Sunnie blinked. "Then do you have anything you want me to call you by?"

He hesitated without words as though contemplating if there was any. And after a while he shook his head dramatically. "No."

Sunnie smiled at how dramatic this little one was. "Oh. Okay. Then I’ll pick a name to call you instead," she smiled. "I’ll call you... mmm," she thought, running a hand through her chin. "Little Black."

Sunnie wasn’t so good at giving names. So that was the first one that came to her mind from her impression!

The little one frowned again. "I’m not a little boy! I’ve already grown!"

She smiled with a nod. "Sure. But it’s what I want to call you since you don’t want to give yourself a name. So make do with it, Little Black, okay?"

The little one stared at her for a while and then raised his chin. "Humph! Whatever."

Sunnie smiled as she stared at the fire still burning on the stick he was holding. "Little Black is so respectful though. I can’t believe you could chase away such a big snake with that. How did you even come up with that?" She was impressed.

Little Black smiled. "Of course I can. I’ve stayed here for years! So I know how to handle everything here." He had a hand on his waist as he spoke, proudly.

Sunnie stared. She guessed this little one had indeed been here for that long!
