Chapter 110: Chapter 110 The Language of God_1
Aiden looked at Daili with surprise as the demon she summoned vanished into thin air, only to see that her expression was almost the same as his.
"Why are you surprised? Isn’t this what you asked me to read out?" Aiden asked, looking at her with suspicion.
"But I didn’t expect you to actually make the words of the gods work... I’m just confirming, Warden, you really don’t know what Abigail taught you, right?" Daili asked seriously.
"Of course, I don’t know, otherwise why would I ask for your help to solve it?" Aiden sat down in the chair.
"This is indeed strange, I’ve never seen a case like yours before," Daili mused.
"So what was that just now?" Aiden asked, "That wasn’t black magic, was it?"
He had now freed himself from the torment of that "curse" and finally had the luxury to ask this question.
He was curious, he had to be, because Abigail’s incantation was just too bizarre.
Ordinary black magic follows the rule that its effectiveness is inversely proportional to distance.
Abigail resided in the Banquet Forest, hundreds of kilometers away from Silvertown. For black magic to exert a mental attack of an intensity capable of erasing a person’s sanity over such a distance was nearly impossible.
"I understand your confusion, but this is actually black magic... To be precise, it’s the origin of black magic," Daili said with an air of mystery.
"Origin?"
"What Abigail spoke to you was actually the language of the divine— that is, the language of the rulers."
"The language of the gods?" Aiden immediately thought of a goddess detained under this office, "Is ’Divine Speech’ what you’ve been referring to all this time?"
"Yes." Daili nodded, "Magic is a supernatural force constructed via the vehicle of language. The language of the rulers corresponds to the power held by the rulers, and a word from the gods can easily change the rules of the world within their domain of authority. You should be aware of the Four Books of Origin pertaining to black magic, Warden?"
"The Book of Spirits, the Book of Order, the Book of Life and Death, and the Book of Matter?"
Aiden recalled that his predecessor was a superior Judge well-versed in black magic, and he himself had inherited the theoretical knowledge about black magic.
The four books he had just mentioned were the cornerstone of magic; each containing only a few thin pages. Yet almost all existing magic was derived through gradual extrapolation, combination, and assembly of the fundamental spells recorded in these books.
The content in these books originated from four ancient steles. There is still no unified theory on the origin of these steles, but they are indeed the source of all current black magic.
"The Four Books of Origin are copies of the content on the Origin Steles, and Abigail believes that the magic used by humans, whether it’s the freely disseminated white magic or strictly controlled black magic, is actually a degraded version of Divine Speech. What’s written on the Origin Steles is the residue left behind after mortals discarded the parts of Divine Speech they couldn’t understand or utilize. What we call magic is just a poor imitation of the divine authority by mortals," Daili explained calmly.
"So she simply skipped studying ordinary black magic and went straight to studying the language of the gods?" Aiden realized.
"Indeed, she proposed a theory that, by mastering enough divine language, one could steal the dominion of the rulers with a mortal’s body—this is a glorious path to divinity," Daili’s expression remained unchanged, but her tone carried a sincere admiration, "She is a true genius bestowed by heaven, which is why other witches honor her as the ’pinnacle of witches.’"
Witches pursue forbidden knowledge, and the purer the witch, the more fervent their pursuit of knowledge to its utmost limits. Abigail’s study of dark magic certainly placed her a level above other witches. While other witches were still exploring how to exhaust the dark magic of mortals, she had already begun probing into the origin of magic—that is, the power of gods.
"So you’re saying, the reason I almost went mad was because of the effects of that divine language she spoke?" Aiden thought he understood.
But at this moment, Daili shook her head: "That’s not quite accurate. The spiritual contamination you experienced earlier wasn’t strictly the exercise of that divine language’s power; it was merely a side effect."
"Side effect?" Aiden was taken aback.
"Because the language of the rulers is far beyond the understanding of mortals. If one does not adapt through an expressive technique, the divine language will continue to exert high-level suppression on the influenced mortal’s spirit until it collapses. You know, some cultists become mentally deranged after receiving ’the grace of God’..." Daili reminded.
"Like ’Mad Halo’?" Aiden immediately thought.
"Right, I think she must have directly heard the voice of the ruler she worshipped, received the special power bestowed by the divine language, but her spirit also completely shattered."
Listening to this, Aiden couldn’t help but scowl, recalling how Melifilia had told him more than once that if he helped her remove a holy nail, she would grant him a "blessing"...
That deceitful goddess was indeed just looking for a chance to mess with him.
"Then I really am lucky," Aiden let out a sigh of relief, "If there is no way to speak the divine language, would I have ended up just like her?"
"Yes, you must have met other Great Witches at the gathering, right? Abigail only taught us six the divine language and the expressive technique to adapt to it. Only we have researched the methods to express the divine language," Daili said with a smile, "My demonic possession, Lamia’s Beasts’ Transforming Potion, and the body modification techniques, they are all for this purpose."
Body modification? Could it be that such body modification techniques were developed to express divine language? Aiden wondered.
Meiruki was a disciple of Great Witch Lamia, but she herself was not recognized as a Great Witch by Abigail, so she had not been taught about divine language; she only saw the technology for body modification through demon contracts as a tool for nurturing assassins.
In other words... the ability of body modification can actually change the structure of the vocal cords to express divine language, although Aiden didn’t know how to adjust precisely to that state.
But now it might be possible, as Daili had just used her demonic possession to modify his body, the memory of that state lingered in his body, and if within the range of the ability of body modification, he might be able to reproduce it.
If that were the case, he might be able to harness the power of this divine language.
"Since this is just a side effect, what is the true effect of this divine language?" Aiden went on to ask, "Organizing the office? Exorcising demons?"
"Exactly, I think what you have been granted should be the divine language of ’order,’" Daili said with conviction, nodding.
"Order..." Aiden murmured, then frowned, "If you’re so clear about this, why were you so surprised earlier?"
"This..." Daili smiled meaningfully, "You have to ask yourself that, Warden."
