Chapter 109: Chapter 109: Demonic Possession_1
"Do you know what has happened?" Aiden asked, propping his forehead, his complexion pale.
While conversing with Daili, he had been struggling to resist the erosion of his consciousness by the words left by Abigail.
"When you took the token, I guessed things might turn out this way—on the night of the full moon, Abigail could summon the Great Witches to her conclave through the token," Daili replied with a light smile. "Although I wanted to warn you about the danger, I couldn’t speak out because of the contract."
"Cut the crap. Can you help me shut off the voice in my head?" Aiden asked bluntly, impatient to deal with this problem for even a moment longer.
"Of course, as long as the warden..." Daili said meaningfully, brushing her finger across her lips, "gives his body to me."
"If you keep flirting with me under these circumstances, I’m really going to lose patience," Aiden said, face darkening.
"Oh, you misunderstand, I’m quite serious," Daili smiled. "The simplest way to stop that voice is for you to say the phrase yourself. By using expression magic, you can adapt to the influence of the divine words on you."
"Say it? Are you kidding me?"
Aiden was confident that even a master of ventriloquism could not possibly pronounce that "language"—the "language" spoken by Abigail simply wasn’t producible by human vocal cords.
"That’s why I said I need your body," Daili said, fiddling with the short Magic Wand, "Next, I will summon a possessing demon to enter your body and temporarily modify your body, precisely transforming your throat and tongue to be able to produce that language."
"That sounds a bit suspect..." Aiden narrowed his eyes dubiously.
A possessing demon is a kind of demon that can directly parasite inside a living host, modifying the host’s body structure to develop demonized characteristics. The host would then possess terrifying strength and some specific abilities of the demon.
However, as the demon’s parasitism continues over time, it would gradually erode the host. Under the influence of the demon, the host’s personality would drastically change; their thoughts would increasingly align with the demon’s until the control over the body was completely taken by the demon.
For a sorcerer like Daili, skilled in employing demons, she could not only use possessing demons to enhance herself but also manipulate specific targets. Dealing with ordinary people possessed by demons was also a routine case the Inquisition frequently handled.
"To be honest, I am indeed very interested in controlling you. But let’s say, I wouldn’t be foolish enough to harbor such thoughts here," Daili shrugged.
Aiden pondered for a moment. Certainly, letting a possessing demon summoned by Daili into his body was a bit risky, but the risk seemed controllable.
It would take a considerable amount of time for a possessing demon to erode its host, and if Daili tried any tricks, he could completely counter her using the demon contract. Moreover, he himself knew methods to exorcise demons.
Plus, he still remembered the appearance of horns on Abigail’s head. At that time, he had suspected that Abigail was in a state where her body had undergone special modifications, which might explain why she was able to make those eerie sounds. What Daili had claimed still held some credence.
"Then let’s get started. I release your spellcasting permissions," Aiden consented.
"As you command," Daili waved the Magic Wand, chanting a spell.
Soon, a mass of pitch-black viscous substance was conjured from thin air and rapidly transformed into a flexible tendril, winding around her short Magic Wand.
This was the possessing demon. Before finding a shell to attach to, creatures like this are actually quite fragile.
"Come, warden," Daili said gleefully, bringing the Magic Wand closer to Aiden, "Ah—"
She opened her mouth like coaxing a child to eat and motioned for Aiden to open his mouth and receive it.
"This guy actually enjoys it..." Aiden reluctantly opened his mouth, and then the possessing demon whooshed in swiftly.
"Tasty?" Daili teased Aiden with a smile.
"Tastes like your mom," Aiden retorted irritably.
It felt like swallowing a slug...
He was now under the dual pressure of spiritual contamination and physical discomfort, which inevitably made him somewhat irritable.
"Next, we will have to transform your body, please endure a little," Daili waved her magic wand again.
Aiden felt a sudden intense throbbing in his chest, very similar to the pain during physical transformation—the possessing demon was rapidly altering his body.
The pain spread upwards from his chest cavity, extending to his throat, and then reached the root of his tongue.
"Oh dear, your demonized form looks quite splendid," Daili caressed her cheek, her face filled with admiration as she assessed, "Now, please say that phrase."
Aiden tried to speak, and then got immediately startled by his own voice.
The voice that came from his mouth was hoarse and eerie, neither human nor beast-like, but something of an... unknown monster.
He began to echo Abigail’s words that were incessantly resonating in his mind, letter by letter. This took him quite some time; many pronunciations were beyond his comprehension. Even though the structure of his throat and tongue could now produce such sounds, his consciousness couldn’t keep up for a while. He had to try gradually, adjusting the pronunciation bit by bit.
After more than thirty repeated attempts, although with some stammering, he finally managed to articulate the entire sentence successfully.
No sooner had he finished speaking than the echoing voice in his mind abruptly stopped, and an extraordinary sense of relief made his head feel light for an instant.
At the same time, the documents and office supplies he had knocked over shuddered and then suddenly leaped up, returning to the desk on their own; the files and books swiftly sorted themselves neatly, each office supply finding its place, and the steel pens returned to their holders. Even the spilled ink flowed back into its bottle as if time had reversed.
In the blink of an eye, the desk was back to its original state... even more organized than before.
"The invocation... it worked!?" Daili’s eyes widened in astonishment.
Aiden was not only puzzled; it was Daili who had prompted him to utter this bizarre "spell," and now she herself seemed astonished by the effects of the "spell."
Just as he was about to ask a question, he suddenly felt something surge up from his chest.
He reflexively opened his mouth to vomit, and out came the possessing demon that had just entered.
The possessing demon writhed violently on the desk like a snake scalded with boiling water, twitching twice before it lay still. It then turned into a pool of black water and promptly evaporated away.
Watching this, Aiden couldn’t help but be taken aback.
The possessing demon, it had just died on its own.
