Chapter 111: Chapter 111 You Just Crave My Divinity_1

"Ask myself?" Aiden frowned, "What do you mean?"

"Divine words can’t just be spoken to exert power. If the authority of the ruler could be stolen so easily, there would already be gods everywhere in this world," Daili said, pointing at herself, "If I could use the language of the gods, I wouldn’t resign myself to stay here, merely studying common dark magic."

"So you’re saying that for divine words to be effective, there are conditions? What are they?" Aiden asked.

"It’s divinity. Only those with divinity can make the ruler’s language effective!" Daili spread her hands towards Aiden, eyes blazing as she looked at him, "Just like you and Abigail."

"What exactly is divinity? Explain it to me clearly," Aiden pressed on.

"You really don’t know?" Daili raised an eyebrow dubiously but went on to explain, "Divinity, as the name implies, is the extraordinary attribute that distinguishes gods from mortals. Divinity has no form, but it can attach to all things. To harness the power of divine words, the presence of divinity is necessary. Abigail has already collected a considerable extent of divinity, she is a true near-god, so her spoken divine words have authority and can even influence the minds of mortals."

At this point, Aiden vaguely grasped the concept, but to confirm, he continued to inquire, "Then how does one acquire divinity?"

"Under normal circumstances, divinity should of course be concentrated in the existing deities, but in reality, according to our research, apart from the existing rulers, some ancient relics scattered around the world also contain a significant amount of divinity. There are two common methods to obtain it; one is to be granted it by a ruler. Some ancient texts mention partaking in the holy flesh and blood bestowed by a god to receive blessings, alluding to this method. The other is to extract it from relics that possess divinity through rituals," Daili explained, pausing for a moment, "However, besides these methods, there’s a shortcut that one could take."

"A shortcut?"

"That is to kill other beings with divinity, and use necromancy to seize it directly from their corpses," Daili raised a finger, "Corpses, skeletons, ashes, or even dislodged spiritual bodies, all can retain divinity. Rulers also get replaced over time; when the old ruler falls, most of their divinity remains in their carcass. Partaking in the remains of a god allows one to inherit that deity’s divinity. The same applies to humans endowed with divinity."

Aiden lapsed into thought.

He could surmise where his own divinity came from—he had been transported to this world because Melifilia summoned his soul here. The divinity within him was likely granted by Melifilia herself.

Although he could not fathom her motives, it was probably because of this that he could wield the power of divine words.

The power of "Order" corresponded to the content in the Book of Order. The power of Order binds things with rules and returns them to the "normal" state defined by those rules.

Thus, items scattered on the ground returned to an orderly state in his eyes under the effect of the divine words, and the possessing demons that invaded his body were forcefully expelled, even outright killed.

Though it seemed unimpressive at first glance, Aiden could already sense the formidable aspect of divine words.

The influence of human dark magic targets objects, affecting people, items, oneself...

But what divine words influence are concepts.

Dark magic can be used to kill a person; magic powerful enough to kill may not necessarily be able to slay a magical beast.

Yet if a divine word possesses the authority of "death," conceptually speaking, it can take effect on any living entity.

This is nothing less than a cheat-level power.

No wonder these Great Witches accepted Abigail’s summons. The power of gods, indeed, would tempt many...

Wait, could it be that the Blood Moon Cult summoned a deity to Melifilia for the same reason?

"It seems that you have some inkling about the divinity within you," Daili squinted at Aiden, like a sly cat, "Would the warden be willing to share with me?"

Aiden cast her a glance: "What do you think?"

"Probably not going to tell me just like that, since even Abigail only taught us divine words... The biggest barrier to mastering divine words is not the words themselves but acquiring divinity. Within the entire witch assembly, only Abigail, Lamia, and Qiqimora possess divinity. Frankly, including me, the remaining four of us dream of having a part, and I guess each of us has considered killing one of those three and seizing their divinity..." As Daili leaned on the desk, she inched closer to Aiden, "You see, warden..."

"What are you trying to do?" Aiden became wary of her approach.

"Would you consider making a deal? If you could tell me, I am willing to pay the price," Daili moved closer to Aiden, her breath like orchids, "Even if the cost is somewhat high... I can accept it."

After a moment’s silence, Aiden finally spoke, "Daili."

"Hmm?" Daili smiled.

"Step back. Without my permission, don’t come so close to me," Aiden responded expressionlessly.

Daili suddenly felt as though her heart was being clenched by someone, causing her body to shiver—Aiden was threatening her with a demonic contract.

"I remind you that the premise of making a trade with a price is having that price in your own hands. When we made deals before, you’d already sold yourself to me, your very life is in my grasp, so how much more can you offer me for another deal?" Aiden said coldly, "Although I do owe you a favor this time, it’s not possible for me to repay it with this."

The witch clearly coveted the divinity within him, and she might have even entertained the thought of killing him to take it just moments ago.

This information about divinity related to the secrets of the Heretic Inquisition, and even to his own secret as a transmigrator, it was naturally not something he could easily disclose.

"I quite like this tough side of you..." Daili retreated with a teasing grin, "But you did say just now that you owe me a favor, right?"

"I’m not about to deny even that," Aiden sighed, "But don’t make too outrageous requests. I can’t do just anything."

"Don’t worry, my help was offered of my own volition, after all, it would be troublesome for me if anything happened to you," Daili started with a courtesy before laying out her real request, "I only have a small favor to ask, warden. Could you let Presia and me stay in the same room?"
