Chapter 188: Such A Pity
Nicholas stared at the message as his heart sank. He gripped the phone firmly, thinking this person was one of his enemies. Otherwise, why would they decide to make a deal with him?
He pursed his lips and replied, "Alright."
"Good job. Now, arrive at this address. I’ll tell you what to do later."
There was an address of some half-constructed factory on the city’s outskirts. He frowned upon seeing this but had no choice but to go.
Thus, he called William and handed him his business here as he drove the car himself to the destination. For safety, he kept a gun with him in his pocket and a knife along with it. His palms were sweaty as he drove.
Should he call the police?
After thinking about it, he shook his head. He knew that this was risky, but did he have another choice?
If his thoughts about the killer were true, then perhaps.... Perhaps even the police wouldn’t be able to do anything, and even Abigail would die.
Thus, it was better to accept the deal. What else could the kidnapper ask?
If it were Rebecca....
Nicholas abruptly stopped the car.
What if that person wanted him to die?
His face paled, but he instantly gripped the steering wheel tighter. He had already decided in his heart.
If he were given a choice whether to keep himself alive or Abigail, he would always choose later. He suddenly realized that he really loved her to the point that he could die in her stead. But what’s the point of knowing this?
If he really died, he might never be able to say a single word.
He took a deep breath as he tried to calm his storming emotions and looked in front with a hint of determination in his eyes. He had decided.
Since he wanted Abigail to live, he would surely die when the time came. This way, his wife would live in peace, and perhaps, she might also become pregnant because of how many times they had sex.
After thinking of this, his eyes softened for a second. At the very least, she might not become alone after having a child. And then there was still his mother-in-law. In the entire world he only loved two women in this entire world.
One was his mother, while another was his wife.
He turned on the engine after his emotions had calmed down. Right now, his entire face looked utterly cold and indifferent, as before he had met Abigail.
Thus, he drove his car to the destination without stopping even once. When he finally reached it, he parked his car somewhere around the place before stepping out and walking toward the under-constructed building.
He looked up, trying his best to locate his wife, but all he could see was a cold place full of bricks. He took a deep breath and walked inside. As soon as he entered the place, his cell phone rang again. He pulled it out and read the message.
"Good choice. Now, follow the trail I have left behind and enter a room."
Nicholas looked around, and sure enough, several arrows were created on the wall by the side. Thus, he walked forward as he continued to look into the darkness. The more he walked, the darker it became. Thus, he turned on his phone’s flashlight, holding it with his sweaty palms.
He swallowed as he thought of Abigail and gritted his teeth, continuing like nothing happened.
Soon, he reached a dark and cold room wholly covered with walls on four sides, without even a trace of ventilation in there. Only there was a computer placed on the box-like thing. He looked at the computer as a text shown on the screen, saying, "Mr. Harrison, here’s the deal. If you want her alive, get yourself killed. Say yes if you agree."
Nicholas knew it. He was mentally prepared for this as he took a deep breath and asked, "How can I trust your words?"
"You can trust me." The screen changed and wrote, "You should know that my aim has always been you all along."
Nicholas clenched his jaw as he stared at the screen, unable to make this decision. He wanted to see her one last time. Just as he was thinking, the screen changed, and this time, the security of a similarly dark room was shown, but there was one change.
There sat an almost lifeless Abigail, her hair stuck to her sweaty face. Her eyes closed as a frown appeared on her forehead. Behind her stood a woman wearing a hood from head to toe, not showing her face. She raised her head and looked at the camera head-on.
"Mr. Harrison, even if you don’t trust my words, I’m going to get rid of her right this instant." She clearly used a voice changer by showing a button in her hands, raising it toward the camera. "So, Mr. Harrison, you really don’t have another choice if you want her alive and well."
Well?
How can his Abigail be well after being tortured to that extent?! Nicholas could clearly see wires attached to her body, indicating that she had been tortured to death in this place.
If he didn’t choose, one last press would surely kill her. Thus, without even thinking twice, Nicholas spoke, "Okay."
He didn’t know whether his wife could live after he was gone, but.... But... he had to do this. He had to take this risk because he was at the end of his wits. He was desperate enough to make this choice.
The woman clicked her tongue and said, "Well then, you were really a handsome young man. Too bad, you have to get killed for such a simple reason."
The woman pulled out another button and showed it to the man, saying, "This is the button that will shut the door and stop the flow of air inside, and at the same time, it’ll leak poison. Are you sure this is your choice? If you let her get killed, you can live."
"I won’t change my choices." Nicholas’s face was cold. No matter what, he knew this was the same emoji killer. For some reason, she had never killed Abigail, only targeting the ones around her. Thus, he knew that she wouldn’t be harmed temporarily.
"Good." The woman sighed. "Such a pity that you’re about to die."
After saying that, she pressed the button.
