Chapter 306: Making a Deal [3]
In the late hours, the northern dorm building was hardly visible to Leon.
—Crash!
Leon landed silently on the second balcony of a five-story building.
He did not make any sound doing so.
He was using Astral Matter to cast spells to slow his impact was the only way to not get detected by Eclipse’s mana detection system.
The system was wholly designed to only track mana. So it could not track any spell cast using Astral Matter from the Astral Spectrum.
Otherwise, normally an instructor would have already been chasing him through the air for breaking dorm curfew.
’Why am I sneaking around so casually?’
Leon questioned himself for a brief second.
That was because Ayaka had sent for him to meet her inside her own assigned guest room.
Which just happened to be inside the dorm building allocated to the third year Class S all-female students.
The dorm rooms which also belong to Eula.
’What are the odds?’
Of all the buildings.
She had chosen this one.
Leon shook his head at the absurdity of his own situation.
Ayaka clearly could have chosen a better place.
It was almost as if she had done this deliberately.
He can actually picture her devilish expression.
Leon clicked his tongue.
It would not be wrong to guess that Ayaka was taking revenge on him for stealing her Elven Core.
Well, she could have directly confronted him about it and just made him pay for the loss. But the issue was that even if she did, Leon did not have that kind of money to spare.
But still....
’You could have come to my room.’
Eula had done this before, so why can’t she again?
He complained in his mind.
Rumi, who was watching all of this from his consciousness, commented quietly.
’There are still three more floors left, Haru. You better hurry and be done with it. Remember, tomorrow you have class.’
’I know, I know. Also you do not have to remind me about the class.’
Leon shot back internally with mild irritation.
Thanks to the Short Teleportation skill he had copied from Alice, it became a bit easier.
It took him thirty whole seconds to climb to the very top.
And as he expected, the doors of her balcony were opened.
White curtains waved outside, fluttering with the same rhythm as the wind around them.
The inside was warmly lit from some sort of warm light.
Stepping inside, the first thing his eyes landed on were the candles hanging along the edges of the chandeliers above.
It was a spacious room.
’Where is she...?’
His steps slowed down because the next thing he saw was a young girl with long white hair and blue eyes sitting cross-legged on the opposite side of the room.
In one hand she was holding a cup near her lips. And with the other, she rested her chin on it, sitting sideways with her bare feet on the sofa.
"You are late."
Eula said, after taking a slow sip from her cup.
Her eyes remained stained on the cup in her hand for a moment, before returning to Leon.
She sat up straight, lowered her feet down to the ground, and then fixed her skirt below.
Leon saw no one else inside the room beside her.
As he had suspected, it was actually Eula who had wanted to meet.
Leon turned, and unfazed, he replied.
"Apologies. But climbing this high without dying was harder than I expected. Next time, please consider a ground floor invitation."
Eula smiled at his rather carefree persona.
It had been a week since she had last seen it.
Leon walked around and sat right on the other sofa in front of her.
A center glass table sat between them. On it were several cookies and some sort of... chocolates?
"A gift from Madam Ayaka. You can have them, they are really sweet for my tongue."
Leon was about to do exactly that.
But then his eyes landed on a book sitting next to the cookie plate.
Its title was enough to make Leon guess who this belonged to.
[The Princess Who Loved Her Executioner]
"...."
It was a unique trait of her character which the devs had added during her concept design.
Leon recalled the online forum going crazy over this little detail when it was first discovered. Some fans loved it, some hated it, and most just made memes about it.
Well, be as it may.
It made more sense for her to like this genre, and particularly the darker fantasy ones.
A girl like that would naturally gravitate toward stories darker than her own reality. Just so she could pretend, even for a moment, that her own pain was not the worst thing in the world.
"...."
Leon decided not to comment on the book, he turned back to her and asked instead.
"I am not seeing Madam Ayaka here, or is it actually you who wanted to meet me?"
Eula tilted her head slightly to the side, before gently placing her cup down on the saucer.
"There is no need to rack your brain so much, Miss Ayaka was in Eclipse because of her own mission that I assigned her personally. She must be on it right now as we speak."
"Wait, so her joining Eclipse temporarily was—"
"All of it was my doing. I needed someone of her status to infiltrate the teachers here."
Leon every time gets amazed by how swiftly she pulls these stunts.
"And why is that?"
"After Headmaster Raizen returned back to ’The Authority’, we believe that he had scattered his scouts among the staff and students here."
She was just being precautious.
Ayaka’s job here was to get the names of each one of them, and then divert them in the wrong direction.
She sighed.
"Anyways. Why I called you here had nothing to do with Miss Ayaka or her mission. I want you to tell me what exactly happened in Evana. How did you manage to pull such a feat off?"
She was serious here.
The Twilight Order’s network was huge after all.
They must have seen him walking out of Evana’s territory alongside Veronica.
Meaning Eula already had some gist that Leon had played a significant role in this.
