Chapter 305: Making a Deal [2]
Ayaka rested her hand on her chin, deep in thought for a moment, she flashed Leon and the young girl beside him a smile.
As an active member of the Twilight Order, she was aware of the fact that Leon had been to Merlin Kingdom a couple of days ago.
And it was only today that he had returned.
She had also received a letter from Leon himself after the incident at her cargo ship.
In the letter Leon had explained that some pirates had captured her ship, he also made it clear to Ayaka to tell her men not to talk about everything.
Surely she had agreed, because Princess Eula had said so.
Ayaka saw the two sitting quietly, so she pushed the menu towards her.
"Don’t be shy, here, order whatever you want, I am giving the treat."
"Thank you for this, Madam Ayaka."
He said it, thinking it would be rude to decline now.
Leon passed the menu over to Rumi.
"Here."
"Really?"
He nodded and flashed her a thumbs up.
’Don’t hold back Rumi.’
Rumi, with her eyes shining, took the menu and called out to the maid standing nearby.
That being said, Leon turned to the girl sitting next to Ayaka.
"We have never met before."
Honestly, it was true.
The girl was a tiny version of Ayaka, literally. She was the same height as Rumi.
"I am Leon Valentine, nice to meet you. It is our first time talking."
He formally introduced himself.
The girl was gracefully cutting a honey steak on her plate, as if she was totally indulged in it.
After hearing Leon, she looked up at him with an unfocused restless expression.
"Likewise. I am Tia Rudward, from your class."
Tia Rudward...?
Yeah, no.
He had never even heard of that name from the game.
That being said.
"I never really take much notice of my surroundings in the class...."
He felt so awkward just being here.
Seriously, there were always some people out there who could make someone feel awkward just by existing.
Tia was one of those people.
Seeing their conversation, Ayaka coughed lightly into her hand.
"Ahem. Tia, greet him properly, dear."
Tia made a face at her mother, but listened. And before she could perform a full noble greeting manrarism, Leon stopped her.
"There is really no need for this. It is fine, and besides, I should be the one grateful here. You offered us a treat."
He was also grateful for the Elven Core.
She did not know this... But the two here had practically eaten her hundreds of millions worth of Elven Core.
Leon thought for a moment before asking.
"Did Professor Esther call you here?"
"Why yes, it was the end of the Autumn Session here, and she has been rather more than occupied with other stuff. Because of that, she called for me to take charge of the research scholars."
"Wait, really?"
She smiled and said.
"Yes, Leon. I will be the one giving you your final grades."
"...."
Leon’s mouth slightly stayed open.
The last time Ayaka had been involved with him, she had asked him shit-tons of questions.
Not like that mattered to Leon though.
’Haah... no wonder Alice was in such a rush.’
Poor girl.
"How are you going to manage your work and this together?"
"Haha. I have my employees to take care of my company. And besides, I get to be with my dear daughter for a while as an excuse for staying inside Eclipse. I mostly work till past midnight nowadays."
Leon sighed quietly.
He had no more topics left to discuss with her. He just wanted to go back to his room.
He had no work with her at the moment, and even if he did, he could not just discuss it here.
But that being said, at least he now understood what she had really wanted.
[’I mostly work till past midnight...’]
She had just said that casually. But to him, she had been dropping hints from the very start.
It was a call for a private meeting.
She had said she was in Eclipse.
She had also mentioned that she was meeting Tia, who said she had been living inside Eclipse temporarily.
And she had even dropped the timing by telling him she worked past midnight.
Leon did not know what type of meeting it would be. Whether she would be alone, or whether Eula would be with her.
But the message was clear.
She was waiting for him.
As they were chatting, they heard several gasps from around the tables nearby.
The whole restaurant slowly turned their heads toward Leon’s direction.
He looked over his shoulder.
The maids and waiters of the restaurant were walking toward their table, each one of them holding dozens of plates of food stacked on their arms.
’She really ordered everything on the menu.’
Leon’s eye twitched.
Even Ayaka and Tia visibly gasped at the sight of so much food coming their way.
The maids approached gracefully, even though they were clearly straining under the weight of so many plates. Each one of them began placing dish after dish in front of Rumi without saying a word.
Rumi sat there casually, and her hands folded politely on her lap, with a tiny satisfied smile on her face.
Leon stared at her with the deadest expression of his life.
"At least someone’s enjoying it."
After the dinner, Leon and Rumi talked a few more times with Ayaka and Tia. Then both of them walked back to his room.
The hallways were quiet at this hour.
Most of the students had already returned to their dorms. Some of the lanterns mounted along the walls flickered gently, casting a warm orange glow across the marble floor.
The two strolled side by side, hands tucked into their pockets.
Leon let out a small tired sigh.
A few seconds of silence passed before Rumi’s tone shifted to a much calmer and softer tone.
"Haru, there is something I want to tell you."
Leon glanced at her sideways.
"What is it?"
"Your mana core will mature quite quickly from now on, after you have started using Astral Matter."
"But let me warn you, any nonsense use of Astral Matter will be dangerous. It will just make your core explode."
He knew she was right.
A normal mana core was only built to channel mana from the Mortal Domain. And even within that, an affinity could put strain on the core if used recklessly.
If Leon was not careful, and used Astral Matter without controlling the throughput from the Astral Spectrum, then his mana core would not survive the load.
It would crack first, then it would shatter before everything inside his chest would tear apart.
It was a death sentence dressed up as a power.
That being said.
Leon replied calmly.
"And well, I already have the solution for it.."
Rumi blinked at him.
"You mean that dual weapon?"
"Precisely."
Knowing Alice she must have already started working on it.
He will have to ask her about it.
But for tonight, he has yet another problem.
’A meeting with Ayaka.’
He could only wish inwardly that it would not be the case.
Checking the time, he saw there were still around 5 hours left before meeting with Ayaka.
