Chapter 121: The Hero’s Misfortune

"Ava?!"

Both Alen and L looked at her unexpected entrance in utter shock.

Ava looked at them, her expression calm, and spoke.

"Oh, you two are safe. I am glad..."

Both Alen and L looked at each other with bewildered expressions.

"How did you come here, and when?..." L asked, still holding his bruised stomach.

She looked at them calmly and replied.

"I came here searching for you. I went into the abandoned park first, but I wasn’t able to find you two. Then, I increased my sensory perception to track your mana and found you hiding here..."

Just as she spoke, the handsome guy standing beside her, who was wearing a charming, polite smile, looked at both of the boys.

"Oh, it seems you are also here. I thought I was only going to find Mr. L, but it seems the boy who reached the tournament finals is also here. What was your name again? Huh... I forgot, it seems..."

Kalos tapped his chin in mock thought, playing the role of a forgetful hero.

Alen looked at him with a deep frown. He leaned forward and whispered toward L.

"Hey, who is that scum?..."

L shook his head, genuinely not remembering the man’s face.

"No, I don’t remember him. It seems he must be some passing neighbor from around this area..."

Kalos’s eyes twitched violently. He forced himself to control the boiling rage inside his chest as he tried his best to maintain his calm, charming smile in front of Ava.

"Oh, it seems you must not have been able to recognize me. I changed my hairstyle in due time.... I must look smarter and more handsome than I did back then..."

Alen whispered again to L, not bothering to hide his voice.

"Did he look handsome?..."

"Nope. He just looked like a massive narcissist who only appreciates himself..." L replied dryly.

Alen nodded in agreement.

Kalos’s eyes twitched a second time, but he stubbornly maintained his bright smile. At the very least, he had clear control over his own outward emotions.

"Oh, no, I think you have misunderstood my identity.... I am Kalos Seinhart, the famous ’Hero’ of Vale City! I am also widely known by the title ’Hydro-man’. Haha... You must have just forgotten me in the heat of the moment..."

He tried to laugh it off to hide the awkwardness of the situation.

L’s eyes widened in sudden realization as he recognized the title. He remembered that this was the exact same man who had gifted him the millions of gold coins.

"Oh, I remember now. You are that same scumbag who tried to say that I would eventually become just like you..."

Kalos clenched his fist tightly at his side. He gritted his teeth, but outwardly, his pleasant smile remained plastered securely on his face.

Ava stepped forward and spoke up.

"Oh... He is the man who said he had some kind of special gift for you, which you forgot to take with you after you fought in the tournament..."

L blinked. He glanced at Kalos in pure confusion.

"Oh, was there another gift for me? Don’t tell me it was just your autograph. If it was, then I don’t want it..."

Kalos laughed awkwardly. He didn’t know if he should cry in frustration or just bury himself inside the ground as he looked at L. He cast a quick glance at the beautiful lady standing beside him, who continued to look at him with a calm, expressionless face.

’Damn, what should I give him now? I can’t just give him any normal, cheap thing! I would lose my dignity and status in front of this beautiful lady! I—shit!’ Kalos panicked internally.

Alen looked at Kalos, then shifted his gaze toward Ava. A cunning smirk formed on his lips as he completely understood the situation.

’Oh, it seems he was the one who made the attack on L. Yes, only a guy with his status could possibly send such strong people in the city to catch him... I don’t know what trouble L might be in, but thanks to our Ava... It seems she has handled the boss...’

’Hehehe... He seems to be completely captivated by Ava’s beauty. I have to take full advantage of this golden opportunity...’

Alen stepped forward, standing right beside L with a demanding posture.

"Oh, come on! How long are you going to make him wait? Just give him your so-called reward which you forgot to give him earlier!"

Kalos’s gaze snapped out of his internal panic. He looked at Alen while desperately trying to maintain his charming smile.

"Ah—alright..."

He hesitated for a painful second before speaking.

"Oh, you have been rewarded an additional amount of gold coins... But you left the arena earlier... I have them with me, so I will give them to you now."

With a heavy heart, Kalos brought out a premium storage ring. It contained almost 100 million gold coins, a fortune he had earned by showing off in the media and promoting advertisements to his massive fanbase.

"Oh, I will separate your rewards and my personal—"

Before Kalos could even finish his sentence, Alen snatched the storage ring directly from his hand.

"Thanks for the generous gift..." Alen grinned.

Kalos looked at him with a thoroughly shocked expression. His years of hard-earned money were all stored inside that specific ring.

"Wait—I—?!"

Before Kalos could protest, Alen swiftly shifted his gaze toward Ava, cutting him off entirely.

"Ava, you were quite late, you know. We just barely survived a massive ambush... You should have come a bit earlier..."

Ava nodded as she looked at them.

"Yeah... I should have come earlier. I had just gone to do some of my personal work..."

Kalos’s expression quickly masked up again. He looked at Ava with a supportive smile.

"Oh... Is there something you want me to help you with?..."

Ava looked at him and answered flatly.

"No, I can handle my own work."

Kalos’s smile wavered for a fraction of a second, but he still remained stubbornly in place.

L looked at Alen with a confused expression as he noticed his shifting gaze and sudden change in tone.

’Mhmm... It seems Alen deliberately made him pay for his fault... Judging by how Kalos looks at Ava, he must have been captivated by her beauty... Tchh! Such a scumbag shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near Ava...’ L thought, crossing his arms.

"Oh... Okay..." Kalos muttered.

As he spoke, the massive water wall he had formed earlier finally dissolved. It lost its rigid form and showered down around the outer area of the city, splashing onto the wet streets harmlessly.

"Oh, Ava, were you going to find a new residence in Vale City?..." Alen asked casually.

"Well... I thought about it... But it seems it will be difficult to find any suitable residence around this area..."

Kalos’s eyes lit up in pure joy at her mention of finding a new home.

He quickly straightened his back and puffed out his chest as he looked at her.

"Oh, if you want to find a suitable house to buy, I know several beautiful residences which are currently for sale! I can guide you there personally, and you can choose if something suits your tastes, my lady..."

Ava looked at him in mild appreciation.

"Oh, I didn’t know you were also a real estate broker?..."

"Hahaha...."

Alen couldn’t hold back his booming laughter at her deadpan comment.

Kalos’s eyes twitched violently. He remained calm, or at least he tried his absolute best not to glare at Alen more intensely.

"Oh, no. I am just well-known in the city and have many connections, so I can easily find a great place... If you will excuse me, I can lead you there right now?..."

Ava looked up at the fading sky and replied.

"Oh no, it seems it is already evening. So, is it okay if you lead us there tomorrow morning?..."

Kalos smiled brightly, eager to please.

"Of course, my lady! Anytime is fine. I am always ready for you—oh, I mean to say, I am always ready to help the good people of this city.. haha..."

As the heavy rain finally stopped, the evening sun revealed itself. A warm orange light filled the world as the sun started to set below the horizon and the pale moon began to rise.

The long, troublesome, and highly chaotic day finally seemed to come to a peaceful end.
