Chapter 119: No Way Out!

"Hah... Hah... Hah... Damn, did we finally manage to escape?"

Alen tilted his head a little from behind the brick wall to look back at the empty street. He searched the shadows for any sign of the enemies that might flood out of nowhere, but thankfully, he found none.

He leaned his back against the wall beside the small, narrow alley.

"Sigh... We survived just barely. What the hell was that terrifying power?..."

He looked at the guy standing beside him. The blood was leaking from L’s lips as he held his injured stomach, the warm liquid slowly seeping through his trembling fingers. His whole body shivered violently from the sheer impact of that punch.

"Hey, are you alright? Is the wound that deep?..."

L shook his head in denial, but the gruesome wound was telling everything about the damage he had taken.

"Hey, drink one of the healing potions, if you have any left..." Alen urged.

"No... The healing potion is not going to work..."

Alen looked confused by his answer.

"Why not?..."

"The potion would not work on this specific wound done by him. It was his unique ability. It was not just simple Earth Manipulation; it was a power that negates external healing abilities..."

"What?! How are you going to heal then?..."

Alen looked at him, feeling unsure about what he should do to help him out.

L glanced toward him, trying his best to give him a small, reassuring smile.

"No, it is alright. Just give me a few minutes to absorb some ambient mana, and I can heal it myself..."

As they stood in the quiet, empty alley in heavy silence, Alen looked at him. His azure gaze was full of concern, but he did not show it outwardly.

Suddenly, a few cold droplets of rain started to drop from the sky. As Alen looked up toward the sky, dense dark clouds were already looming directly over them.

"Ughh!... It seems the rain is also going to come pouring down soon. We have to leave this area quickly, or we will be stuck here forever."

L glanced at the dark sky. He clutched his bruised stomach and nodded in agreement.

"Yeah... We have to leave right now..."

As L started to step forward, he felt a sharp, agonizing pain. A wave of dizziness shadowed over his head as his violet eyes blurred. He stumbled forward for a perilous second.

Alen reached out and held his shoulder firmly before he could fall down. He looked closely at L’s pale face.

"Hey, are you okay? You seem to have lost a massive amount of blood. At this rate, you will lose consciousness..."

"No... It is fine, I am okay... It is just a little bit of pain and dizziness. It is alright, let’s go before they follow our trail..."

Alen looked at him and wanted to refuse, but then paused as he looked back at the empty street.

’He is right. If we stay here any longer, the chances of the people who were behind the attack finding us will increase... That dangerous person was able to detect us even though we were on the far edge of the city... He must have some high-grade detection artifact...’

"Okay... Let’s go then..."

They both started to run faster down the street again. They passed through rows of houses that seemed mostly closed and abandoned.

’Why is every house on the edge of the city empty? I saw people earlier when I came here, but now they are not present. Something is definitely off about this. I have to hurry to get out of here as soon as possible...’

"Let’s go faster..." Alen muttered.

As they continued to run, the rain started to drop rapidly, soaking both of their clothes in just a few moments, but they pushed through the storm.

Alen felt a weird sensation creeping across his skin. He felt weirded out because it was already evening, yet no lights in the surrounding houses were lit, which should have been impossible for a populated district. He couldn’t even hear any normal city sounds, even as he pushed his overall senses to their absolute maximum limit.

"L, something seems off. Do you feel anything unusual?..."

L looked around while running and shook his head.

"No, I don’t feel anything. My overall senses are weakened by my injured state..."

Alen nodded. As they continued to run through the empty, wet streets, his feet suddenly halted. His suspicion was proven right.

A giant, towering barrier of water covered the path along the edge of the district. It was so massively long that he couldn’t even see the end of it.

The barrier was not just covering the front; it surrounded them entirely from all sides.

Alen’s eyes narrowed as he looked around at the trap.

"It seems we are already caught in that person’s trap. This whole part of Vale City has been covered inside the water barrier. We were trapped inside it from the very moment we arrived here..."

L looked up at the freezing rain falling on him from the dark sky. The water droplets slid down his pale cheeks as his eyes blurred. It was difficult to say whether what he felt was the rain or his own tears.

’It seems, it is probably ’they’ who sent those people to take me back... It is all my fault...’

He looked at Alen, who walked toward the barrier and tried using his magic to break out of it, but ultimately failed against the dense water.

’They specifically said that they wanted to confront me... But he still got caught in my mess... I hate myself for that. That is exactly why I did not want to get close to anyone... Everyone suffers because of me...’

As L closed his eyes in despair, he suddenly heard the distinct sound of water scattering. The rhythmic footsteps of someone approaching echoed through the rain.

He looked back toward Alen, who had also heard the sound. They both looked toward the shadows where the noise was coming from.

As they both took a cautious stance behind a wall, two figures appeared. One was a beautiful lady who looked completely out of place in the dirty, rainy alleyway. She had long purple hair that faded to lavender-white at the ends, striking lavender eyes, and fair skin. She wore a black ruffled dress with a fitted waist, a translucent lavender shawl, silver earrings, and a shiny purple gemstone necklace, giving her a very elegant and noble appearance.

Beside her stood the man with brown hair and obsidian eyes. He wore a respectable, polite smile, seemingly trying to impress her as he held a black umbrella to prevent the rain from touching her.

Both Alen and L looked at her with stunned, speechless expressions. She offered a small gesture to say ’hi’ to both of them as she came closer, but her face remained completely expressionless.

Both boys stared at her in utter confusion as they muttered at the exact same time.
