Chapter 107: A Second Chance

As their emotional moment continued, Alen stepped up from behind and looked at them.

"Hey, are you two done now? Can we go?"

L looked at him over his shoulder.

"Shut up, don’t you see she is going to disappear?"

"So what? It is her fate to die, and you can’t do anything to repair it... So just leave her and let’s go..."

L glared at him, looking as if he wanted to punch him in the face.

Ava pulled back from the hug and nodded. Her body was still disintegrating into glowing light particles.

"Yes... He is right. You shouldn’t worry about me... I will be alright. You should leave now before the gate closes. There is no time left, go..."

Behind them, the massive whirlpool of energy started to shrink slowly.

L looked at her for a long second and nodded, wiping a single drop of tear from his eye.

"Okay... Take care..."

He turned around toward the dimensional gate and gestured for Alen to follow.

Alen stepped forward. He looked at Ava and gave her a bright smile.

"Okay... It was nice meeting you, beautiful old lady. Maybe in your new life, you will live with pleasure and fulfill your every dream...."

Ava blinked, feeling confused by his phrasing.

"What do you—?"

Before she could understand what he meant, the dark Crimson Essence started to swirl around her, coating her disintegrating figure. She looked at the strange energy in sheer confusion.

But before she could process the magic, Alen pushed her backward. She lost her footing as Alen used his Crimson Essence to forcefully throw her straight inside the Dimensional Gate.

She suddenly felt the intense pulling pressure of the portal, but she didn’t fight back as she was swallowed by the gate. Alen stepped forward along with L, who was staring at him like he had lost his mind. Together, they disappeared inside the Dimensional Gate.

...

[Crimson Essence]

It is a unique type of power, similar to but fundamentally different from normal mana.

The energy possesses a different density and power. It has its own specialties and can also be combined with standard magic.

Because the Crimson Essence Alen uses is generated by ’Godless’, and Alen had bonded with the weapon, he gets full control over that energy.

The power of Godless was originally strong enough to affect and harm the ’Order’ of the universe. Because of this, no space or time fabric is able to stop it. It can even survive passage through the Void without getting harmed or consumed by the emptiness.

Even though ’Godless’ had its power suppressed to the lowest possible level after bonding with Alen—causing the ’Crimson Essence’ to become weaker and lose many of its former abilities—it still retained its resilient nature.

When Alen traveled through the Void to enter the Ascension Realm, he survived the journey, a trip which would normally disintegrate and corrupt most living beings. Even though the Crimson Essence cannot affect the ’Order’ of the ’Universe’ in its current weakened state, it can still resist the natural laws at a marginal rate.

Alen survived solely because Ravena had coated his body with the Crimson Essence. If he hadn’t possessed its protection, his body and soul would have been swallowed by the Void.

By using the same Crimson Essence on Ava and forcefully pushing her out of the dimensional gate, Alen ensured she would at least not get destroyed by the heavy pressure of the Space and Time fabric. However, because her soul was tied to the Ascension Realm, it would require immense luck and fate to see if she actually survived the forced exit.

...

7 July, Year 2502. The Human Empire. Vale City, Outer District.

Location: The Gate of Dimensional Link.

A massive whirlpool of mana floated vertically in the air, emitting an dense amount of energy.

Suddenly, a bright light flashed from the center of the whirlpool, and thousands of people began to walk out of it.

As the massive crowds exited, the area bustled with loud chatter and heavy sighs of relief. Some people slumped onto the hard floor, exhausted after suffering through dangerous disasters. Several couples were actively kissing each other, crying tears of joy that they had finally survived this hellish place and could be together alive and safe. Meanwhile, other people wept openly, mourning the heavy loss of their fallen companions.

Near the edge of the gate, as most of the survivors were already filtering out, a small group of people stumbled through the portal.

A woman with purple hair and lavender eyes stumbled onto the ground. The remaining Crimson energy swirled around her shoulders one last time before safely disintegrating into the air.

She looked around the bustling city with shock in her eyes. Behind her, Alen and L also stepped out, staring right at her. Her figure returned to its original, solid state, looking exactly as if she had never been disintegrating in the first place.

"How am I still alive? I thought I would have died?..."

Her lavender eyes looked confused, and her facial expression remained emotionless. But her eyes shone bright with renewed life. She had finally escaped hell and saw the real world once again.

A single drop of tear fell from her eye, tracing down her pale cheek as it fell to the ground. She was so stunned she didn’t even notice she was crying.

L looked at Alen and asked curiously.

"Is this the power of your Bond?"

"That depends on what specific power you are asking about."

"I am asking about how she escaped. Wasn’t she connected with the Ascension Realm after getting stuck within it for centuries?"

Alen shrugged his shoulders and replied casually.

"I don’t know how she actually made it through. I just pushed her while covering her body with my ’Crimson Essence’. I figured it would protect her from the repulsion of the Space and Time fabric... But I wasn’t actually a hundred percent sure she would be able to come out, since she was bound to the Ascension Realm..."

L looked at him and sighed. He walked over to Ava and bowed down to her eye level.

"Are you okay? Did you get hurt? Are you feeling any kind of backlash or something else?"

She turned toward him and shook her head.

"No. I am feeling okay. Or, rather, I feel way more free than before. My mana is stable. My body feels incredibly light. It seems my rank has declined a little bit, but I can still feel alive now..."

L smiled warmly as he looked at her.

"Okay, let’s go now. People are starting to notice us."

L nodded. He pulled the hood of his cloak over his head to hide his features and started leading them away from the crowded gate.
