Chapter 108: Inside Vale City Again

Inside Vale City. After passing through the massive Outer Gate, the trio walked onto the bustling streets. The towering buildings and modern infrastructure could be seen everywhere, bringing back the distinct feeling of returning to Asterion once more.

High in the sky, holographic 3D images were forming, displaying glowing advertisements. The modern, technological look of the city showed how much more developed this world was compared to his past world.

Alen was walking quietly while looking at the new sights, taking in the environment he had only seen once before.

’It seems I will not get used to these things anytime soon... Sigh... If I had been a rich guy, I would also have owned one of these buildings. But whatever, I will earn that someday...’

"So, where are we going? Should I go my separate way from here onwards?" Alen asked.

L paused in his tracks. He glanced back at him and spoke.

"Nope, you will stay with us. Don’t you know we have to discuss many important things together?"

Alen slumped his shoulders.

"About what?"

L stated it flatly.

"About many things. About Ava, and about what she is going to do next. We can’t just leave her by herself. She just now appeared after being missing for centuries, and so many things have changed in due time. We need to tell her how the world works now."

"Ughh... I don’t want to chit-chat. I would rather prefer training..." Alen groaned.

L narrowed his eyes.

"No, you are coming with us."

Alen looked at him with clear frustration.

"Nope, I am not coming."

L folded his arms across his chest. He glanced at Alen sharply and issued a warning.

"You are coming with us, or I will drag you there myself."

"Oh? Are you blackmailing me now? Wow, I want you to try it."

"Just shut up and follow me. If you don’t come, then..."

A small, dangerous smile tugged on L’s lips, which contrasted sharply with his cold eyes.

"I will beat you myself to my heart’s content... And trust me, I am not lying this time."

Alen felt a sudden chill run down his spine at those words. He knew the guy standing in front of him was way stronger than he was. L was stronger in every conceivable way, from base stats to skill levels. Alen couldn’t beat him in his current state.

"Sigh... What a pain... I will come, but consider it only because I don’t want to fight in the middle of the street..."

L’s lips twitched in amusement.

"Oh, really. I am glad you agreed. It is best for us to remain civil."

L started to walk forward into the night, searching the neon-lit streets for a suitable inn for their stay.

Behind him, both Ava and Alen followed. Ava remained mostly silent, acting like an introverted person who wouldn’t actively talk with others unless she felt like it.

But she wasn’t actually an introvert. After spending time all alone in the Ascension Realm, her mentality had shifted. She would need time to bring back her original personality. She wasn’t inhuman like Ravena; she was still a human being, just scarred by time.

They continued to walk through the busy road illuminated by bright streetlights. Soon, they found a decent-looking inn a few meters away.

L nodded to both of them, and they walked toward the entrance.

As they stepped forward, the glass doors of the inn automatically slid open, sensing their presence.

The trio stepped inside the lobby, and the cool breeze of the air conditioner washed over the whole place. Alen finally sighed in relief. The sweat on his forehead dried up as the cool air hit his body, making him feel refreshed and clean for the first time in days.

L walked straight toward the staff at the reception desk.

"How may I help you, sir?" the female clerk asked politely.

"Is there any room available? We want three private rooms."

The clerk nodded her head.

"Wait a moment, I will check our system..."

The clerk pulled her eyes to look at her computer monitor. She started to type fast, checking the database for any available rooms that were not yet booked.

She then looked up at L again after she finished checking.

"Well, sir, there are only two available rooms left. One person has to share a room with another."

L blinked in surprise.

"What? But... How can that be possible? Why are there no available rooms? Is there some big event going on in the city?"

The clerk stayed silent for a moment, looking a little awkward.

"Well, sir... It is just that a VIP guest booked the whole upper floor for an entire week. So, only a few rooms are available for regular customers..."

L folded his arms with a sigh.

"VIP customers... Sigh.... Okay, here, take this money. Give me the two room keys."

The clerk nodded happily and processed the payment.

"Let me guide you to your rooms then."

She walked out from behind the desk and led them toward the hallways. As the trio followed behind her, Alen asked a curious question.

"Then who will be sharing the room with who?"

L paused mid-step and stated it flatly.

"Of course, I will be staying with Ava... you—"

He suddenly paused. He realized that he was currently in a male disguise; he couldn’t just stay in the same room with her. Not from an outsider’s perspective.

Alen smirked widely.

"Oh, it seems you are so excited to sleep in the same room as Ava? Did you actually fall in love with her or something?"

L’s face flushed bright red as he glared at him.

"Shut up! It—it is not like that!"

Ava walked calmly behind them. Her face was entirely blank; she just quietly listened to their bickering.

"Sir," the clerk interrupted, looking back at them.

"Only married couples are allowed to stay in a single room together. So you are not allowed to share a room with the lady."

L looked at the clerk in shock.

"What? Why is there such a ridiculous rule?"

"Ahem! It is the strict policy of this hotel. This rule exists so that no improper affairs or anything else untoward happens inside the hotel rooms..."

L’s face warmed even more, and he quickly looked away in embarrassment.

Alen, finding a perfect opportunity to tease his rival, stepped closer to L’s ear and whispered.

"You know, I have been thinking. Are you sure you are not the secret ’Bad Boy’ type? The guy who acts different outwardly but is wild on the inside? Like how you have a fondness for pretty women and try to sleep away from me... Hehe... It seems there is definitely something you are hiding..."

L’s face burned. He forced himself to walk faster, following the clerk through the quiet corridor.

"Okay, we have arrived, sir. This room is for you two gentlemen, and the room opposite is for the Miss. If you need anything from me, you can call the front desk anytime. The telephone is right beside the bed..."

The clerk bowed respectfully and walked away after handing them their respective room keys.

They stood in the hallway, looking at each other.

L sighed and shook his head. He looked at Ava and handed her the solitary key.

"Okay, you should stay inside the room opposite to us. If you need anything, you can knock on our door anytime. We will discuss the other important things tomorrow."

Ava nodded, taking the key from his hand.

"Goodnight, you two..."

She turned around to go inside her room.

"Goodnight to you too."

As Ava walked inside her room and closed the door with a click, L turned around to open his own door. He felt Alen’s constant presence standing right behind him, but he ignored the teasing gaze, opened the door, and walked inside.

From behind, Alen also walked inside the shared room.

The room looked quite luxurious. It was furnished with every necessary amenity. A soft, large double bed lay at the far end, surrounded by polished wooden furniture and other decorative items.

As Alen walked further inside, he slumped face-first onto the soft bed. He rolled over and looked up at the pristine ceiling.

"Sigh... It has been days since I finally slept on a real mattress... I will not get used to living this rough life anytime soon..."

Alen then forced himself to lift his heavy body up. He stood, walked toward the hanger in the corner, pulled off his jacket, and hung it there neatly.

He paused and looked back at L.

"Are you going to use the washroom first, or should I go?"

He asked the question politely. There was no hint of teasing or his earlier playfulness in his gaze. He genuinely didn’t mind if L wanted to wash up first.

L shook his head and gestured to the door.

"You can go... I will wash up later..."

Alen slumped his shoulders, grabbed his things, and walked inside the washroom to clean his body.

Left alone, L walked toward the large window. He pulled off his cloak and transferred it into his storage ring. The dark night sky could be seen clearly through the window, and the atmosphere in the room turned quiet and comfortable. He touched the cold glass of the window pane, looking up at the glowing moon. As the bright moonlight poured over his figure, his violet eyes shone, reflecting the distant lunar glow.
