Chapter 146: Sealed forever.

Eva.

Alex was really going to leave me locked inside this dungeon.

The realization became more unbelievable with every passing minute.

Not once had he shown the slightest trace of remorse, not once had he looked back and not once had he questioned whether throwing me into this miserable place had been too much.

I simply couldn’t understand it.

What exactly had I done?

I never forced him to choose me. He had made that decision himself, and he had insisted on making me his Luna.

He had publicly acknowledged me.

So why...why had everything changed so suddenly?

What had happened between then and now?

If he truly didn’t love me anymore...then why had he gone as far as announcing to the entire world that Bloodfang would have two Lunas?

Why create such a situation only to turn against me afterward?

None of it made sense.

The questions continued circling endlessly inside my mind.

Slowly, I lowered myself onto the cold stone floor of the prison cell.

The icy surface immediately seeped through the layers of my ceremonial gown, sending an uncomfortable chill through my body.

I wrapped my arms around myself instinctively.

The elaborate gown I had worn proudly to the ceremony had now become nothing more than an inconvenience.

The heavy fabric spread awkwardly across the dirty floor and every movement felt uncomfortable, as the dress was never meant for a place like this.

I let out a weary sigh, as exhaustion settled over me both physically and emotionally.

The hours seemed to drag endlessly. Little by little, daylight disappeared beyond the tiny barred window high above the dungeon wall.

Darkness gradually crept into the prison.

Still...Alex never came, not even once. There was not a single glimpse of him.

A bitter smile crossed my lips. So this was truly how little I meant to him now.

My stomach suddenly twisted painfully.

I frowned.

I was hungry.

I couldn’t even remember the last time I had eaten anything.

The emptiness inside my stomach only added to the discomfort already consuming me.

I leaned my head back against the cold wall and closed my eyes.

Perhaps...If I rested for a while...time would pass faster. Just as my thoughts began drifting elsewhere...a sound reached my ears—It was footsteps which meant someone was approaching.

My eyes flew open immediately. The steady sound echoed through the otherwise silent dungeon corridor.

Hope ignited inside me almost instantly.

He came. I knew he would.

The footsteps grew closer and then, his figure finally appeared beyond the iron bars.

It really was Alex.

A bright smile spread across my face before I could stop it.

"Alex!" I hurried to my feet despite the stiffness in my body. "I knew it." I said, as relief flooded my voice. "I knew you couldn’t bear seeing me like this." I added, as my confidence returned almost immediately. "You wouldn’t leave me here forever."

For one brief moment...I truly believed he had come to take me out. Instead, Alex merely scoffed, as his expression remained cold and then it darkened even further.

There wasn’t the slightest trace of warmth left in his eyes.

"What’s your relationship with Thomas?" He asked, his voice completely emotionless.

The question struck me like lightning, and the smile on my face disappeared instantly.

My face turned pale.

How...how did he know?

Before I could gather my thoughts, he asked another question.

"And the child you’re carrying..." He asked, as his jaw tightened. "...is it really mine?" He added, as anger and frustration burned openly in his voice. "Answer me!" He demanded, as his furious yell echoed throughout the dungeon.

Panic seized my entire body.

"I..." The words caught in my throat. "I..." I forced myself to speak despite the fear tightening around my chest. "The baby is yours, Alex."

The answer rushed out almost immediately, as my heart pounded wildly.

I couldn’t lose everything now.

I still hadn’t made Ella suffer the way I wanted her to. There was no way I was going to let my life end here.

Without taking his eyes off me, Alex lifted one hand and gave a small signal to one of the guards.

The guard immediately understood the silent command.

He hurried toward the heavy iron door, unlocked it, and slowly pulled it open. The loud creaking sound echoed throughout the gloomy dungeon.

The moment the door opened, relief washed over me and a smile almost found its way onto my lips.

He believed me, he hadn’t questioned my answer any further.

Deep inside, I became convinced that he still loved me—This...this had to be proof.

Everything happening now was only because Ella had clouded his judgment.

Soon enough, he would come to his senses. Soon, he would realize that I was the one who truly belonged beside him.

Ella would eventually become nothing more than a distant memory.

Clinging tightly to that hope, I quickly pushed myself off the cold stone floor. My legs felt slightly weak after sitting there for so long, but I ignored the discomfort.

Without wasting another second, I hurried toward Alex, as every step was filled with expectation.

When I finally stood before him, I smiled faintly.

"Thank you," I said softly.

Gratitude filled my voice.

Without thinking twice, I lifted my arms, intending to embrace him.

But I barely moved when Alex suddenly took a small step backward. Before I could understand what was happening, his hand shot forward.

His fingers wrapped tightly around my neck.

The force behind the movement caught me completely off guard.

My eyes widened, and air immediately became difficult to draw into my lungs.

I instinctively grabbed his wrist with both hands.

"A-Alex..." A painful gasp escaped my lips, but his grip only tightened.

"You bitch." He said, as his voice was filled with fury. "Do you really think I don’t know you’ve been sleeping with both my brother and me?"

Shock flooded every part of me.

I desperately tried to shake my head.

"A-Alex..." I struggled to force the words out but his fingers dug even deeper into my skin.

"What?" A cold, almost crazed laugh escaped him. "You want to deny it?" He asked, as his eyes burned with rage. "I have footage."

Every word struck like a hammer.

"Footage of you sneaking into his car." He took a slow breath. "And footage of you entering his bedroom."

His voice rose into an angry roar.

The next instant, he released me, not gently. He shoved me away with so much force that I completely lost my balance.

My body crashed onto the hard floor.

The back of my head slammed painfully against the stone wall.

A sharp ache exploded through my skull.

I remained on the ground, coughing violently as I struggled to breathe. Fresh air finally entered my lungs in uneven gasps.

"You slut." Alex looked down at me with nothing but disgust and then he spat at me.

The humiliation struck harder than the pain.

"I, Alexander Blake..." He said, as his voice echoed throughout the dungeon. "...reject you, Eva Stone, as my chosen mate."

Everything around me seemed to stop.

I froze completely.

The words continued ringing inside my head.

Chosen mate...rejected...

Before I could even recover from the shock, Alex snapped his fingers.

Almost immediately, Philip entered the dungeon carrying a document.

He walked straight toward Alex and respectfully handed it over.

Alex barely glanced at it.

Instead, he threw the papers toward me with obvious contempt.

The document landed on the floor beside me.

"Sign the divorce papers, Eva." He declared, as his tone carried no mercy and then turned toward Philip. "Make sure she signs them." He added, his order absolute. "And in three days..." His voice remained frighteningly calm. "...she is to be beheaded."

A cold chill spread through my entire body.

"And hang her head at the front gates of the pack."

Silence followed for only a heartbeat.

"Yes, Alpha." Philip bowed respectfully.

Without sparing me another glance...Alex turned around.

He walked away without hesitation, his footsteps gradually faded into the distance.

With every step he took... It felt as though the door to my fate had closed forever.
