Chapter 147: Terrible mistake.

Alex.

I was a complete fool and an idiot.

The realization hit me harder with every passing second—I should have investigated everything from the very beginning when I had my suspicions.

I should have questioned the inconsistencies. I should have looked beyond the lies I had been fed but instead...I chose to believe everything at face value.

I had trusted the wrong person.

If only I had uncovered the truth years ago...Perhaps none of this would have happened.

Perhaps Ella would still be by my side.

Perhaps she would never have suffered because of my stupidity.

Perhaps...she would never have left me.

A bitter laugh escaped my lips.

What a fool I had been.

No. What an unforgivable fool.

Without another glance behind me, I walked away from the dungeon.

The heavy iron doors slowly disappeared behind me as my footsteps echoed through the corridor.

I never looked back as Eva deserved every bit of what awaited her.

Back then...she had looked me straight in the eyes and suggested that I kill Ella.

She had wanted Ella gone.

She had wanted me to become the very weapon that would destroy the woman who loved me more than anyone else.

Now...Fate had simply come full circle.

The death she had wished upon Ella would become her own.

I climbed the stairs in silence before finally reaching my room.

The moment I stepped inside, the exhaustion weighing on my body became unbearable.

Without bothering to remove my shoes or change my clothes, I walked straight to the bed and allowed myself to collapse onto it.

The mattress sank beneath my weight.

For several moments...I simply stared at the ceiling and then without warning, fresh tears rolled down the corners of my eyes.

I didn’t even bother stopping them.

Since Ella walked away from me, I hadn’t been myself, every single minute felt heavier than the last and every breath reminded me of what I had lost.

The silence inside the room only amplified the emptiness inside my heart.

I had done this, every moment I failed to trust her...had led us here.

I buried my face against the pillow as another wave of regret crashed over me.

If only time could move backward, If only I were given one more chance.

I didn’t need a lifetime, just five years would be enough.BIf I could return five years into the past with every memory I possessed now...I would protect Ella and I would never allow Eva to manipulate me again.

I would rewrite everything, and I would make every single choice differently.

I would make things right.

"Arrrrghhhhh!"

My frustrated scream filled the room.

The pain inside my chest refused to lessen. The tears continued flowing endlessly down my face.

I clenched the bedsheets tightly beneath my fists.

"I won’t give up, Ella Morrison." I said, as the vow echoed silently inside my heart. "I’ll make you love me again." I paused. "No matter how long it took...no matter what I had to endure...I’ll make you mine again."

Slowly, I lifted my head.

My gaze landed on the divorce papers resting quietly on the nearby table. They remained exactly where I had left them.

Yet every time I looked at them...one question continued tormenting me.

How had I signed them?

No matter how many times I replayed everything in my mind...I still couldn’t believe those signatures belonged to me.

My jaw tightened, and my hands slowly curled into fists once more.

"Eva Stone..."I muttered through gritted teeth. "You caused all of this—every tragedy, every misunderstanding and every ounce of suffering" I said, as my eyes darkened with determination. "And now..." I slowly stood from the bed. "I’ll be the one to behead you myself."

There would be no mercy and absolutely nothing would go wrong with your execution.

With my resolve firmly set, I slowly rose to my feet.

The hesitation that had weighed me down moments ago was gone. There was no longer any reason to remain sitting there, drowning in regret.

If I truly wanted Ella back...then I had to act. Standing still wouldn’t change anything.

Without wasting another second, I turned around and walked straight toward my study.

My steps were quick and purposeful.

The moment I entered the room, my eyes swept across the shelves and piles of documents surrounding me.

My mind was already racing and I needed leverage, or just anything. There had to be something...anything at all that could convince Ella to return to me.

There had to be a loophole somewhere—some forgotten clause or some legal technicality. Anything capable of annulling the divorce.

I refused to believe everything had reached a dead end. There had to be a way, and there simply had to be.

I pressed both hands against the edge of my desk and lowered my head briefly.

No. There was something even more important.

Before searching endlessly through documents, there was one thing I needed to do first.

I had to go to the Ironclad Pack, as I needed to see Ella in person. I needed to speak with her calmly and I would explain everything.

I would tell her that Eva no longer meant anything to me and that I had already divorced her. That from this moment onward...she would be my one and only Luna.

A faint smile appeared on my face.

Yes. That was the right thing to do.

Surely...once she heard the truth, she would understand.

Without another thought, I immediately left the study. My pace became even quicker as I headed straight toward the garage.

Every second suddenly felt precious, and I couldn’t afford to waste another moment.

Soon enough, I reached my car, and as I walked toward it, determination burned brightly inside me.

"Just wait for me, Ella." I whispered quietly to myself. "I’ll make everything right." The promise felt heavier than any oath I had ever made. "There is no reason for either of us to continue suffering through this loneliness."

I believed every single word, as this wasn’t how our story was supposed to end.

Technically...If I wanted...I could still remarry.

The thought crossed my mind only briefly but it immediately filled me with discomfort.

Who would genuinely marry a divorced Luna purely out of love?

Most would only see an opportunity, and a chance to use her, to ridicule her and to take advantage of everything she had already endured.

The mere thought made my jaw tighten.

No. I wouldn’t allow that to happen, not while I was still alive.

No one...absolutely no one...eould ever hurt Ella again.

I would make everything right.

I would make her understand.

I would convince her that returning to me was the safest choice.

Not because she was weak...but because I would spend the rest of my life protecting her from every danger.

Yes...that was exactly what I needed to do. Once she listened to me, I was certain she would understand.

Holding tightly onto that belief, I continued walking toward my car.

I had almost reached it when my phone suddenly rang.

Philip.

His name flashed across the screen.

Without thinking much about it, I answered immediately while reaching for the driver’s door.

"Alpha." His voice came through the phone almost instantly. "I’ve been trying to mind-link you, but your mind seems to have been occupied." He added, as his tone carried obvious urgency.

"Get straight to the point, Philip." I replied while stepping into the driver’s seat, and my hand reached for the ignition key.

"There is an issue within the Bloodfang Group."

The seriousness in his voice made my movements slow, and my fingers paused on the key before I could start the engine.

"What issue?"BI asked, a faint uneasiness beginning to settle inside me.

"An issue..." Philip exhaled sharply. "...that you approved."

There was unmistakable frustration in his voice.

My heart skipped a beat.

Something about the way he said those words immediately made my stomach tighten.

I slowly withdrew my hand from the ignition.

"What do you mean?" I asked, unable to hide the panic creeping into my voice.

And I really couldn’t, as I had the unsettling feeling that I had made yet another terrible mistake
