Chapter 145: Thoughts!
Ella.
I continued staring at the three of them, unable to hide the amazement in my eyes.
The more I looked at them, the stranger I felt, not exactly in a bad way, if anything, it felt comforting and peaceful.
Being surrounded by them somehow made the hospital room feel much warmer than before.
My gaze lingered on each of their faces without realizing it.
Before I knew it, Lurgard leaned forward and lightly brushed the tip of my nose with his finger.
The unexpected gesture instantly pulled me from my thoughts.
A teasing smile appeared on his face. "Is there something on our faces?" He asked, as his voice carried an unsual playful tone.
Anyone hearing him would assume he was simply teasing me but to my utter surprise...that wasn’t what was running through his mind at all.
’I really can’t wait to marry you and force you to stare at me all day without looking away...’
The thought echoed clearly inside my head.
’...while we spend every possible moment together, making love to the fullest.’
My entire body froze.
Heat rushed to my ears almost instantly, as I could actually feel them burning.
For several long seconds, I simply stared at him completely speechless.
What...what was happening?
The words had been far too clear, and they hadn’t sounded like something he had spoken aloud.
No! His lips hadn’t even moved, then...How had I heard them?
My heartbeat quickened.
No...that couldn’t be possible. There was absolutely no way. I couldn’t...I couldn’t possibly be hearing his thoughts.
The very idea sounded ridiculous and impossible, yet...
How else could I have known what was going through his mind?
I frowned slightly as confusion flooded every corner of my mind.
Maybe...Maybe I had imagined it.
Perhaps I was simply overthinking because I had only just regained consciousness.
That had to be it, there was no other reasonable explanation.
Still...a small part of me refused to let the matter go.
I needed to know.
I needed proof.
Almost instinctively, my eyes shifted toward Lawrence.
If I could somehow make him speak...
Perhaps I would discover whether what had just happened was real or merely my imagination.
I was just about to say something.
Just about to test the impossible theory forming inside my mind.
When the ward door suddenly opened.
The sound immediately drew everyone’s attention.
My eyes moved toward the entrance.
Bella stepped inside carrying a bag in one hand.
The instant I saw her, every bit of warmth inside me disappeared. My mood soured immediately.
The snake had arrived.
"Theresa." Bella’s voice sounded unusually affectionate as she walked farther into the room. "Are you okay?"
She placed the bag she had been carrying down carefully before looking back at me, as her expression was filled with concern or at least...she wanted everyone to believe it was.
I didn’t respond, as not a single word left my lips. I just simply looked at her in silence.
I wasn’t in the mood to entertain her act, as her pretended concern only irritated me further.
The silence stretched between us.
It seemed Leonard noticed the change in my expression almost immediately, as his brows furrowed slightly. His gaze shifted from me...then slowly toward Bella...carefully watching us both.
"I heard you collapsed." Bella’s voice remained gentle as she took another step into the room.
She behaved as though she hadn’t noticed the coldness in my expression. As though she hadn’t realized I wanted absolutely nothing to do with her.
Instead of stopping, she continued approaching my bedside with an expression carefully arranged to look concerned.
"What caused it?" She asked, and her question sounded harmless enough.
Anyone listening would have believed she was sincerely worried about me.
And then...just as it had happened when Lurgard spoke...another voice echoed inside my mind.
Only this time...It wasn’t Bella speaking aloud.
’You bitch...’ The words were sharp and venomous filled with pure hatred, as they echoed loudly within her mind. ’Why didn’t you just die?’
My heart skipped a beat.
The voice was unmistakably hers yet just like Lurgard her lips hadn’t moved.
I stared at her in silence.
A deep frown slowly settled on my face.
Once again...I had heard someone’s thoughts, It definitely wasn’t an accident and it certainly wasn’t my imagination.
The realization sent countless questions racing through my mind.
How?
How was this even possible?
What exactly had happened to me?
Why could I suddenly hear what people were thinking?
Or is this one of my Wolf’s abilities?
Before I could lose myself in those questions any longer, irritation quickly replaced my confusion.
Bella stood before me wearing that fake expression of concern. Meanwhile, the thoughts inside her mind were completely different.
A chameleon.
That was exactly what she was, pretending to care while secretly wishing for my death.
The hypocrisy disgusted me.
"Get out." I said, and the words left my mouth immediately, cold and firm without the slightest hesitation.
Bella blinked, as she clearly hadn’t expected such a blunt response.
"You—" She stopped halfway through her sentence. "I was only trying to..." She continued, as her voice faltered as she attempted to defend herself.
She never got the chance to finish.
"Get out, Bella." Leonard’s firm voice cut across the room, as his tone carried unquestionable authority while he looked directly at her. "Didn’t you hear what she said?" He asked, and his words left no room for argument.
Bella opened her mouth once again.
"But—"
She barely managed a single word.
Lurgard stepped forward before she could continue. He deliberately positioned himself between Bella and my bed, completely blocking her path.
"Theresa needs to avoid stress right now." He said, as his voice remained calm yet there was unmistakable firmness behind every word. "So..." He gestured toward the door without taking his eyes off Bella. "Use it." He added, as his expression remained unreadable. "When she’s calmer, you can come back."
I rolled my eyes almost immediately.
Why were they wasting so many words explaining themselves to her?
There was nothing to explain.
I didn’t want her standing near me.
I didn’t want her pretending to care.
And I certainly didn’t want to hear another poisonous thought hiding behind that fake smile.
As far as I was concerned...I never wanted to see Bella anywhere around me again.
