Chapter 142: Never again!
Leonard.
My heart remained on edge as I waited impatiently for the doctor’s verdict.
Every passing second felt unbearably long.
Theresa had been taken into one of the wards immediately after we arrived, and the medical team was still inside examining her.
All we could do now was wait.
And waiting had never been one of my strengths.
My eyes remained fixed on the closed door, hoping it would open at any moment.
Despite standing outside the ward, my thoughts refused to stay in the present.
They kept drifting back to everything that had happened at the Bloodfang Pack.
No matter how many times I replayed the scene in my head, I still couldn’t believe what I had witnessed.
Theresa had actually used her powers before the entire Bloodfang Pack.
The memory alone left me speechless.
I had always believed her lost memories were connected to the suppression of her abilities.
If she truly couldn’t remember her past...then how had she instinctively used such tremendous power?
It simply didn’t make sense. It was even stranger...the strength she displayed wasn’t the same power I remembered.
It was far greater, and far more overwhelming. The force with which she had thrown Nathan still lingered vividly in my mind.
It hadn’t looked forced, nor had it appeared difficult for her...she had done it almost effortlessly.
That realization alone sent countless thoughts racing through my head.
Her power...It had grown, and there was no denying that anymore. The Theresa I had witnessed today was much stronger than the woman I remembered from before.
The question that continued bothering me was one I couldn’t answer.
Had my brothers and I remained stronger than her...Or...had Theresa already surpassed all three of us?
The thought was both astonishing and unsettling.
Still...that wasn’t what mattered right now.
Whether her strength had increased or not could be discussed another day.
Right now, the only thing that mattered was her condition.
Lurgard had already contacted Bella and instructed her to bring Theresa’s clothes to the hospital.
The flowing gown Theresa had been wearing during the ceremony wasn’t exactly suitable for leaving the hospital afterward.
Changing into something more comfortable would be better once the doctors discharged her.
After what felt like an eternity, the ward door finally clicked open.
My attention snapped toward it instantly and the doctor stepped outside with a calm expression.
Without wasting another second, I hurried toward him.
My brothers reacted just as quickly, surrounding him almost immediately.
"What’s wrong with her?" I asked, unable to hide the concern in my voice.
The doctor offered a reassuring smile. "It’s nothing serious, Alpha."
The calmness in his tone immediately eased some of the tension weighing on my chest.
"She simply exhausted herself." He paused briefly before continuing. "She needs adequate rest after overexerting herself."
Then, almost as an afterthought, he added the words we had all been desperate to hear.
"And the baby is perfectly fine."
The tightness in my chest disappeared almost instantly, although I was a little disappointed.
A deep breath escaped my lips before I even realized I had been holding it, and relief washed over me all at once.
Beside me, my brothers released their own quiet sighs of relief.
The doctors offered a few final instructions before quietly leaving the ward.
As soon as the door closed behind them, I slowly stepped inside.
My footsteps were light against the tiled floor, almost as though I was afraid even the smallest sound might disturb her.
The room was peaceful, and the earlier tension had disappeared, replaced by a comforting silence.
My eyes immediately found Theresa.
She lay quietly on the hospital bed, her breathing slow and even, she was asleep.
For the first time since everything had happened, her face looked completely peaceful. The exhaustion that had clouded her expression earlier had finally faded.
Watching her sleep like that caused something inside my chest to tighten painfully.
A deep sigh escaped my lips.
Regret.
It was the only emotion I could truly feel at that moment.
My mind wandered back six years without my permission. Back to the countless moments when Theresa had openly loved me and back to every smile she had given me, every hopeful glance, every silent confession hidden behind her eyes and every single one of those feelings had been met with my silence.
I had never responded.
Never accepted the love she had so freely offered me.
If only I had reciprocated those feelings back then...perhaps none of this would have happened, perhaps she would never have crossed paths with Alex and perhaps she wouldn’t have suffered everything she had endured.
The thought alone weighed heavily on my conscience.
In my eyes...I was partly responsible. If I had acted differently six years ago, maybe her life would have taken an entirely different path.
Maybe she wouldn’t have ended up lying in this hospital bed today.
A bitter smile tugged at my lips.
Still...there was one thing I was grateful for—everything between her and Alex was finally over.
That Chapter had finally come to an end, there was no more forcing herself to remain beside a man who had never deserved her.
Now...only one thing remained—that child growing inside her.
The constant strain it placed on her body worried me more than I cared to admit. Seeing her collapse today had only strengthened that concern.
It seemed to be taking an enormous toll on her.
Who knew...perhaps it was one of the reasons her body had become so exhausted.
The mere thought of Alex made my jaw tighten, because that despicable man had not only gotten my mate pregnant...he had also dared to mistreat her.
The anger inside me rose all over again.
Had Theresa not stopped us...had she not insisted on dealing with Alex herself...I would have marched into Bloodfang without hesitation.
I would have declared war, and I would have reduced that entire pack to nothing as not a single person would have been able to stop me.
My hands slowly curled into tight fists as another memory surfaced.
It was the day we found her again by the roadside, broken, hurt and alone.
The image still haunted me.
Alex didn’t deserve mercy and he certainly didn’t deserve to continue living after everything he had done.
"I’ll let you do whatever you want with him, Theresa," I murmured quietly to myself, as every word carried unwavering conviction. "But the moment you’re done..." My gaze remained fixed on her peaceful sleeping face. "...I’ll take his life."
The promise settled firmly in my heart, as It wasn’t spoken out of impulse nor was it born from temporary anger.
It was a vow.
One I intended to keep.
I slowly stepped closer to her bedside, looking down at her sleeping face once more, my expression softened.
"No one..." I muttered, as my voice dropped into a whisper. "...will ever hurt you again, especially not while I am still breathing!"
