Chapter 143: Plan B.
Thomas.
"Arrrrghhhhh!"
The frustrated scream tore from my throat the very moment my eyes landed on the latest tabloids.
Without thinking, I flung the newspaper onto the table before snatching up another one.
Every headline seemed determined to mock me, as every article carried the same story.
Every picture only fueled the anger already burning inside me.
My jaw tightened.
That woman...she had fooled me.
All this time, I had genuinely believed she had lost her wolf’s abilities.
I had believed she was powerless, weak and defenseless. That belief alone had given me confidence.
It had made me think I still possessed leverage over her. That no matter what happened, I could still manipulate the situation to my advantage.
But now...everything has changed.
She had used her powers openly before everyone, not only had she used them...she had displayed strength far greater than I had ever expected.
The realization made my blood boil.
"So you deceived me..." I muttered bitterly beneath my breath.
The thought alone infuriated me.
I slowly clenched my fists until my nails dug painfully into my palms and then my gaze drifted toward another photograph spread across the page.
Eva.
The image showed the exact moment she had fallen to the ground and my expression darkened immediately.
How dare Alex push her like that?
Had he completely lost his mind?
What if she had been seriously injured?
What if something had happened to the baby?
The thought alone ignited another wave of rage inside me.
He was asking for trouble.
Eva wasn’t just any woman—she belonged to me and she carried my child.
If anything happened to either of them...I would never forgive him, not even the fact that we shared the same blood would stop me.
"I’ll kill you myself, Alex," I growled under my breath. "There won’t be any hesitation."
For years...there had only been one thing I truly desired—the Alpha’s throne, power and authority.
The position that had always been just beyond my reach.
Everything I had done had revolved around obtaining it and nothing else had mattered.
But now...Alex was beginning to make me reconsider everything. His reckless actions were pushing me further than I ever thought possible.
Without wasting another second, I grabbed my phone from the table, and I immediately dialed a familiar number.
The call began connecting.
Once. Twice. Three times.
Still, there was no answer.
I pulled the phone away from my ear and glared at the screen before trying again.
The ringtone echoed endlessly and my patience steadily disappeared. Each unanswered second only made my anger grow worse.
"Pick up your damn call!" I shouted furiously, not caring that no one could actually hear me through the unanswered line.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the call connected. I didn’t even wait for the other person to speak.
"How dare you ignore my calls?" I said immediately, as the accusation left my mouth immediately.
The response came just as quickly.
"Watch your tone, Thomas." The voice on the other end was sharp and unmistakably irritated. "Don’t make me back out."
The warning carried enough weight to momentarily halt my anger.
"I’m already in a terrible mood," the person continued. "I’m currently stuck running a completely irrelevant errand."
I clicked my tongue in annoyance, rolling my eyes, I tightened my grip on the phone.
"Then why didn’t you tell me she was planning to divorce Alex?" I demanded without hesitation.
A dry scoff echoed from the other end.
"Does it look like I live inside her head?" The reply came with obvious sarcasm. "Even I was caught completely by surprise."
I slowly drew in a deep breath, forcing the frustration burning inside me back under control.
Losing my temper now would accomplish nothing and anger had never solved a problem.
If anything, it only made people careless.
I slowly exhaled before speaking again, making sure my voice sounded much calmer than it had only moments ago.
"Alright." I paused briefly. "You didn’t know."
There was no point dwelling on something that was already beyond either of our control.
"So..." I adjusted the phone against my ear. "What happens to our plan?"
Curiosity lingered beneath my calm tone.
Everything we had worked toward had suddenly become uncertain.
The voice on the other end remained silent for a brief moment before replying.
"I was actually about to ask you the same thing, Mr. Thomas." The person’s voice carried an irritating calmness. "You always seem to have plenty of ideas." Another short pause followed. "And yet..." The words came with unmistakable mockery. "None of them has worked."
"You—"
The protest escaped my mouth before I could stop myself, as anger flared once again.
My grip around the phone tightened instinctively and for a split second, I wanted nothing more than to lash out.
But I restrained myself, as now wasn’t the time. Whether I liked it or not, I still needed this person’s cooperation.
Slowly, I forced myself to relax, but the irritation remained, but I buried it beneath a thin smile.
"Well..." I said evenly. "Perhaps we’ll finally discover whether it’s my ideas that fail..." I deliberately paused. "...or the people entrusted to carry them out."
The line became quiet.
"What exactly do you mean by that?"
The question came almost immediately.
A slow smile spread across my face.
Without realizing it, I shifted the phone to my other ear while leaning back comfortably, my mind had already reached a conclusion.
"We’ll proceed with Plan B."
Every word left my mouth with unwavering certainty, as there wasn’t the slightest hesitation.
The reaction on the other end was immediate.
"Are you insane?" The voice rose sharply. "That’s far too risky." The person didn’t even try hiding the concern. "And who’s supposed to carry it out?" Another brief pause followed. "It’ll be nearly impossible for anyone to get close enough."
"Exactly." My smile only widened. "That’s why..." I allowed the silence to linger for a heartbeat. "...the one carrying it out will be you."
For several seconds, complete silence greeted my statement.
"What?" The shocked voice almost shouted through the phone. "Are you trying to get me killed?"
A quiet chuckle escaped my lips.
"Think about it carefully." I spoke slowly, savoring every word. "You stand to benefit the most from this."
The grin on my face widened even further.
Without giving the person another opportunity to argue, I ended the call.
The screen immediately went dark.
I lowered the phone and slowly clenched my fists until my knuckles turned white, and my eyes hardened.
"At all costs..." I muttered beneath my breath. "I’ll get rid of you, Ella."
The silent vow echoed firmly inside my mind.
