Chapter 126: Who was calling?
ELLA.
Alex was such a fool, and the thought alone almost made me laugh out loud.
If only he knew what was waiting for him.
I honestly couldn’t wait for him to receive his little "gifts."
The expression on his face when everything was finally revealed...It would be priceless, as he would be completely stunned.
The confidence he wore so proudly would crumble in an instant, and as for Bloodfang’s company...I had absolutely no objection to working there.
In fact, I welcomed the idea, as It was my rightful place to begin with.
If anything, he was unknowingly handing me exactly what I wanted.
How ironic.
A quiet chuckle almost escaped my lips.
I quickly suppressed it, forcing my excitement back down before it could show on my face.
The last thing I needed was to make him suspicious.
"Sure, baby," I replied calmly, keeping my tone as gentle as possible. "Anything for you."
The words rolled off my tongue with practiced ease, and the effect was immediate, as Alex’s cheeks grew even redder than before.
I had to resist the urge to roll my eyes.
What a fool.
He was so easily swayed by a few sweet words. It almost felt embarrassing to watch.
Deciding to let him remain trapped in the illusion of his victory, I slowly leaned closer.
Every movement required tremendous effort, as I forced myself to smile, and then I gently pressed a light kiss against his cheek.
The brief contact made my skin crawl. It took every ounce of self-control not to immediately wipe my lips afterward.
The mere sight of him filled me with disgust, and everything about this closeness revolted me.
Yet I couldn’t afford to let those emotions show, so I kept smiling, kept pretending and kept wearing the mask he wanted to see.
Lost in my own thoughts, I barely noticed him move.
The next thing I knew, Alex’s hands were firmly around my waist, as his grip was noticeably tighter than before.
The shy, flustered man from a few moments ago had disappeared. In his place stood someone far more possessive and far more confident.
He gently tilted my chin upward, forcing me to look directly into his eyes.
My heart instantly began racing, not because I enjoyed the closeness and not because I anticipated anything but because dread settled heavily inside me.
How dare he place his hands on me so casually?
Every instinct screamed at me to shove him away, to slap his hand aside and to create as much distance as possible but instead...I remained perfectly still.
"Listen up, Ella," he said firmly.
I watched him swallow before continuing.
"You are mine." He added, as his eyes never left mine. "And you will forever belong to me."
His declaration only fueled the irritation burning inside me. Every word grated against my ears but no matter how badly I wanted to respond...I couldn’t.
I still had a role to play.
"What can I say, Alex?" I replied softly, deliberately allowing sadness to cloud my expression. "I can’t say the same to you." I added, as I lowered my gaze briefly before looking back at him. "Because you clearly belong to Eva too." I added, as my voice carried quiet disappointment. "It isn’t fair."
The moment my words left my mouth, Alex’s grip around my waist loosened.
I didn’t waste the opportunity.
Before he could tighten his hold again, I carefully slipped out of his arms and took a small step backward, creating just enough distance between us.
Finally! I could breathe again.
I had already reached my limit, and I was irritated, disgusted and completely suffocated by his closeness.
If I remained in his arms for even one more minute, I wasn’t entirely sure I would be able to keep pretending.
I feared my real emotions would eventually surface and that was the last thing I wanted.
Thankfully, I had managed to use his own words against him. Mentioning Eva had the exact effect I expected, as It distracted him and It loosened his confidence, while It gave me the escape I desperately needed.
The thought almost made me smile.
Come to think of it...I never imagined I possessed this side of myself—the calm manipulation, and the ability to hide every true emotion behind carefully chosen expressions.
It almost amused me.
A laugh threatened to escape my lips but I quickly swallowed it back, as now wasn’t the time.
"Ella... how many times do I have to say it?" Alex asked with visible frustration, as he dragged a hand through his hair before letting out a tired sigh. "I love only you." he added, as his voice softened. "I belong only to you." He took another deep breath before continuing. "Let’s leave Eva out of our conversation."
I almost rolled my eyes.
If only he knew what I was actually thinking.
The only thing I wanted at that moment was for him to leave the room completely, but unfortunately...this was his bedroom.
Truthfully, I would have been far more comfortable staying in the room he had prepared for me.
But this fool had gone through the trouble of decorating this room with roses everywhere, making it impossible for me to avoid being here.
Thankfully...I wouldn’t be trapped inside this room forever.
I parted my lips, preparing to respond, but before a single word could leave my mouth...my phone suddenly rang.
The sharp ringtone echoed through the room, and I immediately looked down at the screen.
The moment I saw the caller’s name...I froze.
Lawrence?
What was wrong with him?
Couldn’t he be just a little more patient?
It wasn’t as though I was running away.
Without hesitation, I declined the call immediately, as I couldn’t risk Alex becoming suspicious.
Before he had the chance to question anything, I quickly reached forward and gently grabbed the front of his shirt.
"It’s alright, baby," I said with a reassuring smile. "No more Eva." I added, as I looked directly into his eyes. "Just you and me."
The words worked instantly.
Without warning, Alex pulled me into another tight embrace, and his arms wrapped firmly around me.
So tightly that I could barely breathe.
I had to fight the urge to push him away.
"Thank you, my love," he murmured happily, and then, after a brief pause, he asked, "But... who was calling?"
My entire body stiffened inside his embrace.
Seriously?
This man was unbelievable.
Or perhaps..."Pest" described him even better.
Did he really have to know every single thing?
