Chapter 125: Anything for you baby!

ALEX.

What?

What the hell was wrong with this woman?

For a brief moment, I simply stood there, staring at the door in complete disbelief.

Her words echoed repeatedly inside my head, each repetition making my irritation grow stronger.

She wanted me to cancel the inauguration ceremony?

Who exactly did she think she was?

Whether she attended the ceremony or not, what difference would it make?

If it wasn’t for the child she was carrying...would I even be standing here having this conversation?

The only Luna I wanted standing beside me was Ella. She always had been, and this entire ceremony was meant for her.

Everything I had planned—every preparation, every arrangement—had been with Ella in mind.

I slowly turned around to face Eva again, and the frustration I had been trying so hard to suppress finally surfaced.

"You will do no such thing, Eva," I said firmly, as my voice carried a clear note of annoyance. "There is absolutely no way that’s happening." I added, as I took one slow step toward her, never breaking eye contact. "All the prominent personalities have already been invited." I said, as I spread my hands in frustration. "And now you expect me to cancel everything just a few hours before the event?" I aksed, as I shook my head immediately. "There is no way I’m doing that."

My tone left no room for negotiation.

Eva stared at me for several seconds before lowering her gaze slightly.

"But Alex..." she said softly. "Isn’t my health more important?"

She looked back up at me with an expression that made her appear completely helpless, like a victim desperately asking for compassion.

Under different circumstances...Perhaps I would have believed it, but instead, I only became more impatient.

"Then call a doctor now!" I snapped.

The words left my mouth before I even realized how loudly I had spoken.

The room instantly fell silent, and Eva’s face darkened again.

Something about her reaction immediately caught my attention.

A strange feeling settled inside me.

Why did she keep refusing medical attention?

What exactly was she hiding from me?

"There is no need for the doctor, Alex..." Eva replied after a brief pause, as her voice had become noticeably quieter. "I just need adequate rest." she added, and then, she hesitated again before adding softly, "And... you by our side."

I couldn’t stop myself from rolling my eyes.

That was it.

Everything suddenly became much clearer. She didn’t need a doctor because there was nothing seriously wrong.

She simply wanted my attention and she wanted me to stay.

Otherwise...Why keep refusing the very person capable of examining her?

The more I thought about it, the more convinced I became.

She was perfectly fine and so was my baby.

"Since you don’t need the doctor, Eva," I said firmly, looking directly into her eyes, "Then you should get the rest you claim you need." I added, as I straightened my posture. "And make sure you’re ready for the event."

There was nothing more left to discuss.

Without waiting for another reply...without giving her another opportunity to stop me...I turned around.

My footsteps echoed sharply against the floor as I strode toward the door.

A moment later, I was already out of her room.

Without slowing down even once, I headed straight toward my bedroom, my mind fixed entirely on Ella.

The moment I reached my bedroom, I slowed my steps. For some reason, an uneasy feeling had settled deep inside my chest.

I couldn’t explain it but It was just there.

A lingering sense that something wasn’t quite right.

Taking a slow breath, I wrapped my fingers around the doorknob and pushed the door open as quietly as I could.

The door creaked softly, and the instant I stepped inside...I froze.

"Yes, I did!" Ella said with a light chuckle, clearly speaking to someone over the phone.

The words immediately caught my attention, and without thinking, they slipped out of my mouth.

"Did what, Ella?" I aksed.

The question escaped before I even realized I had spoken. At the same time, that unpleasant feeling returned stronger than before.

Ella immediately turned around, and the moment her eyes landed on me, surprise flashed across her face.

She hadn’t expected me to be standing there.

"Shouldn’t you be with Eva?" she asked as she calmly ended the call, as her tone was casual.

I narrowed my eyes slightly. "Answer my question, Ella." I said, as I took a slow step toward her. "What did you do?" I paused briefly. "And who were you talking to?"

She didn’t hesitate, and she clearly didn’t even appear nervous.

"I was talking to my colleague, Alex," she answered calmly, as there wasn’t the slightest trace of fidgeting or panic in her expression. "Remember..." She paused, as a small smile appeared on her lips. "I work now."

She slowly closed the distance between us until we stood only a short distance apart, and then she tilted her head ever so slightly.

"Baby," she said softly. "My colleague was only asking whether I’d finally returned to my husband’s side."

The moment those words left her lips...every ounce of suspicion inside me disappeared. Just like that, the irritation melted away and even the lingering doubt vanished completely.

Instead...a strange warmth spread across my face, as I could actually feel my cheeks heating up.

"You’re red," Ella teased with an amused smile.

My eyes widened slightly. Immediately, I turned my face away from her, hoping she wouldn’t notice how embarrassed I suddenly felt.

"T-That’s not the issue," I stammered awkwardly, as I struggled to gather my thoughts.

For some reason, simply hearing her call me baby again completely threw me off balance.

I cleared my throat.

"Now that you’re back..." I added, as I finally managed to compose myself. "You won’t be working for Ironclad anymore."

This time, my voice regained its usual firmness, as I turned to face her again.

The surprise on her face was immediate.

"What?" she asked, looking genuinely puzzled. "If I don’t work there... then where would I work?"

"At Bloodfang," I answered proudly without the slightest hesitation, as a smile slowly spread across my face. "You’ve always wanted to work there." I folded my arms confidently. "So now... you will."

Ella stared at me for a brief moment, and then, a smile gradually bloomed across her face and a soft chuckle escaped her lips.

"Sure, baby," she replied calmly. "Anything for you."

The words struck me harder than they probably should have, and heat instantly rushed back to my face.

If anything...I was certain I had turned even redder than before.
