Chapter 121: Husband.
ELLA.
The moment we stepped into Alex’s room, I let out a deep sigh of relief.
The tension that had been sitting heavily on my shoulders eased ever so slightly.
At least there were no roses, no petals scattered across the floor.
For the first time since arriving at the Bloodfang Pack, I felt as though I could breathe properly.
The door clicked shut behind us.
Almost immediately, Alex turned toward me.
"I’m sorry, Ella," he said softly, as there was genuine concern on his face as he studied my expression. "Can you let me know what it was in the room that got you upset?" he asked, taking a cautious step closer. "So I don’t repeat the mistake again."
I almost scoffed.
The urge was so strong that I had to bite the inside of my cheek to stop myself.
Really?
Now he wanted to know what upset me?
Now he wanted to understand my dislikes?
The irony was almost laughable.
It wasn’t as though I hadn’t told him countless times in the past.
It wasn’t as though my feelings had ever been a secret.
But suddenly, he wanted answers.
I pushed the thoughts away before they could show on my face.
"Nothing pissed me off," I replied calmly, my voice remained surprisingly steady. "I just want to stay in my husband’s room." I added, as a sweet soft, yet completely fake smile accompanied my words.
The reaction was immediate.
Alex’s ears flushed red.
The color spread so quickly that it almost caught me off guard.
"Can you address me as that again?" he asked, his voice came out quieter this time, almost shy.
The obvious blush on his face only made something dark twist inside my chest.
I felt anger stir immediately, yet none of it reached my expression.
Instead, I raised my brows slightly, carefully arranging my features into innocent confusion.
"Call me your husband again?" he asked expectantly.
The hopeful look in his eyes made me want to laugh or scream, maybe both.
I forced another smile onto my lips.
"Why should I?" I asked.
The change in his expression was instant, as his face paled. The excitement vanished so quickly it was almost painful to watch.
For a brief moment, genuine panic flickered across his features.
And then I deliberately paused.
Just long enough to make him feel it.
"I mean," I continued casually, "it won’t change the fact that indeed we are still married." I added, as I watched his expression carefully. "You are my husband."
The effect was immediate, as color slowly returned to his face. Relief washed over him so visibly that it was almost embarrassing.
He nodded slowly, as though treasuring every word.
A smile spread across his lips.
"I want you to know that I love you, Ella. I always did," Alex said, his gaze remaining fixed on me with sincerity and certainty. "And I promise you, this time, I will show every bit of it."
I simply stared back at him, the smile still resting on my lips, as I was genuinely dumbfounded by his sudden confession.
For a moment, I simply stared at him, not because his words moved me nor because they touched my heart but because I couldn’t believe he had actually said them.
After everything that had happened, after all the pain and after all the choices he had made.
He stood there looking at me as though those words alone could erase the past.
As though a simple confession of love would somehow fix everything.
Instead of warmth, all I felt was anger. The emotions twisted together inside me until they became almost unbearable, yet somehow, I managed to keep smiling.
"How about Eva?" I asked intentionally, my voice light and almost playful. "Would your love be enough for the both of us?"
The smile on my face widened slightly.
A mischievous smile.
One carefully crafted to hide everything I was truly feeling.
"Ella, why are you suddenly mentioning her?" Alex asked, as the confidence he had displayed moments ago disappeared.
His posture stiffened, and a flicker of discomfort crossed his face.
I almost laughed.
"Isn’t she your wife?" I asked innocently, as I tilted my head slightly. "Remember Bloodfang currently has two Lunas."
My smile remained firmly in place.
The more uncomfortable he became, the calmer I appeared.
"Ella, what are you trying to say?" he asked, his voice sounding strained now.
I noticed the way his shoulders tensed and the way he shifted his weight uneasily. Even beads of sweat had begun appearing on his forehead.
I found it Interesting.
"If I ask you to divorce her, would you?" I asked.
The room fell silent.
Alex immediately stiffened, as his entire body seemed to freeze.
For a second, he looked completely caught off guard and then he slowly turned away from me, avoiding my eyes, avoiding the question and avoiding the answer.
A low chuckle escaped my lips.
There it was.
The answer I had already expected.
It seemed he was going to fail his test after all.
’Baby, I’m sorry, but I have to do this.’
The thought crossed my mind quietly.
At one point, I had imagined allowing him some place in my child’s life.
But now, that thought died the moment he turned away.
My baby didn’t need this type of father.
"Ella, it’s not that I don’t want to, but she is currently carrying the heir of our pack," Alex finally said, his voice sounding defensive and almost desperate. "If I divorce her now, the child will be labelled a bastard, and it would be difficult to pass the pack to him."
I stared at him.
Every word only made the anger inside me grow.
"Is her child so important? What if I—"
I never got the chance to finish.
"Enough, Ella!" Alex yelled, and the sudden sharpness of his voice filled the room, as his expression hardened. "You can’t have children, so I—"
That was it.
That was the final straw.
Before he could finish the sentence, my hand moved on its own.
The slap echoed loudly through the room, as my palm had connected with his face so hard that his head snapped to the side.
The silence that followed was deafening.
How dare he?
