Chapter 119: Forever tied.

Alex.

The moment the bathroom door closed shut behind me, I let out a long, controlled breath, as though I had been holding it in far longer than I realized.

What’s wrong with me?

The question echoed in my mind immediately, sharp and unsettling. I pressed a hand against the cold tiles, trying to steady myself as confusion settled heavily in my chest.

I love Ella... right?

The thought came slower this time, less certain than I wanted it to be.

"Al, what’s wrong with you?" I reprimanded my wolf immediately, my voice low but tense, as though I were arguing with something inside my own head. "Eva cannot be more appealing than our mate, right?" I added, frustration creeping into my tone as I tried to make sense of what had just happened.

My wolf growled in response, irritated and unbothered. "Idiot," he snapped mockingly, his voice echoing in my mind. "We no longer have a fated mate bond!" he reminded me sharply. "Eva is now our chosen mate. You can’t blame me for wanting her!" he added with a bitter edge, as if it were the most obvious truth in the world.

I exhaled sharply.

This is so annoying.

My hands clenched slightly as I leaned forward under the sink, staring at my reflection but not really seeing it.

What exactly have I done?

The question came again, heavier this time.

Why did I reject Ella?

The memory of it flickered at the back of my mind, but I pushed it away almost immediately. It only made the pressure in my chest worse.

This is going to be so tough.

I dragged a hand down my face, feeling the frustration settle deeper into my bones. Nothing about this felt clear anymore—everything was tangled, conflicting, wrong in ways I could not fully explain.

Without wasting another second, I pulled my clothes off quickly and stepped under the cold shower. The water hit my skin instantly, sharp and biting, but I welcomed it. I needed the shock, the clarity, anything that could pull me back into control.

I stood there for a while, letting the cold water run over me, washing away the heat in my thoughts, or at least trying to.

When I finally stepped out, I wrapped a towel around my waist and exhaled slowly, running a hand through my damp hair.

To my surprise, Eva was still in the room.

"What are you still doing here, Eva?" I asked immediately, my brows tightening as water still dripped from my hair down the base of my neck, trailing slowly across my skin.

"Waiting for you, baby!" she said provocatively, her voice carrying a teasing edge that made the air feel heavier than before.

I swallowed hard instantly, my throat tightening as I forced myself to look away for a second.

You can’t do this, Alex. Ella would leave you again if you try it.

The thought repeated in my mind like a warning bell, louder each time.

With that firmly in mind, I averted my gaze from Eva and walked straight to the wardrobe without another word. I quickly pulled out my clothes, dressing in silence, my movements more controlled now as I forced myself to regain composure.

Within moments, I was ready. I did not look back.

I left the room instantly.

I went to my study and began pacing around it like a man possessed, my steps quick and restless against the floor.

The silence of the room only made my thoughts louder, more chaotic, as if they were bouncing off the walls and refusing to settle.

I ran a hand through my hair repeatedly, again and again, each motion rougher than the last, as frustration burned steadily inside my chest.

I really could not understand what was wrong with me.

That single thought refused to leave me alone. It circled my mind like a curse, pressing harder each time I tried to ignore it.

I stopped pacing for a moment and simply stood there, staring blankly ahead as though the answers might appear in the empty space before me. But there was nothing—only silence and the weight of my own confusion.

I turned slowly toward the window, my gaze sinking into the distance outside. For a few seconds, I just stood there, unmoving, as if the world beyond the glass could somehow give me clarity. Then, almost suddenly, I made a decision. I would text Ella. She might have blocked my number, but for that sole reason, I had gotten another line—just to reach her if I needed to.

Without wasting another second, I picked up the phone and typed on the new line, my fingers moving with quiet urgency as I sent her a message.

> Ella, I just want to remind you that you mean the whole world to me and I really can’t wait to hold you in my arms once again.

I hit the send button and leaned back slightly, staring at the screen as I waited. The seconds dragged, each one feeling longer than the last, stretching into what seemed like forever before the phone finally lit up with her response.

> I also cannot wait. I really love you Alex. I just can’t help it but want to be with you for the rest of my life. You are so caring and loving. And I promise to give you the best birthday gift ever.

A slow smile spread across my face as I read her words. My expression softened instantly, the tension in my shoulders easing without me even noticing it.

I knew it. Ella will forever love me.

That certainty settled warmly in my chest, pushing away the frustration from earlier, replacing it with something closer to satisfaction. And yet, right now, I found myself more curious about what she meant by a "gift this time." The thought lingered, stirring a quiet anticipation within me.

I couldn’t help but recall the tie she had given me on my last birthday. It was simple, yet deeply personal. She had even imprinted our initials on it, as though binding us together in something permanent and meaningful.

I clearly remembered how happy she had been when she gave it to me, her eyes shining as she said it would serve as a reminder of our love.

"May we remain tied forever!" Her voice echoed vividly in my mind, so clear it almost felt like she was standing beside me.

I wondered where I had even tossed that tie. I had not appreciated it then—not the way I should have. But now... now it felt important. Necessary. I must look for it. That was what I would wear on the day of the ceremony.

"Forever tied to each other," I muttered aloud under my breath, the words firm and certain, as I finally took my seat.

Within seconds, I buried myself in work, letting the papers and tasks pull me back into control, even as the thought of Ella stayed quietly at the back of my mind.
