Chapter 117: Best gift ever!

Lawrence.

What was wrong with Leonard?

The question kept ringing inside my head.

I couldn’t understand him. Couldn’t he tell when the situation was this serious.

How could he possibly be letting this slide?

How could he stand there and watch Theresa walk away without fighting harder?

Didn’t he see what was happening?

Didn’t he realize how close we were to losing her?

My jaw tightened and a wave of frustration surged through me.

Theresa was talking about returning to Alex. Returning to the very place she had escaped from and somehow Leonard was acting as though everything would work itself out.

As though we had all the time in the world.

But the bitter truth was we didn’t.

The thought alone made my chest tighten painfully.

It had taken us six whole years to find her again—six years of wishing for a second chance.

And now that we finally had her back, Leonard wanted to sit around and wait?

Absolutely not.

If he wanted to let her leave, then that was his choice.

But I didn’t.

The Moon Goddess had given me a second chance—a second chance with Theresa and not just that, but a second chance as her mate.

The realization alone made my resolve harden. There was no way I would simply stand by and watch her walk away.

My gaze followed her as she turned around and without another word, Theresa hurried toward the staircase.

Within seconds, she was climbing the stairs too fast. Almost as though she wanted to escape the conversation entirely.

Without hesitation, I followed.

"Theresa, wait!" My voice echoed through the mansion.

But she didn’t stop nor did she slow down. If anything, she moved faster.

I clenched my jaw and increased my pace.

The distance between us slowly shortened.

By the time she reached her room, I was only a few steps behind.

She grabbed the door handle immediately, clearly intending to lock herself inside but I was quicker. I reached the doorway just as she tried to slam it shut and the door stopped halfway.

"I want to be alone, Lawrence!" She said, her voice cracking with frustration.

The exhaustion in her tone was impossible to miss. But despite her protest, I managed to slip inside before she could shut the door completely.

The moment I entered, Theresa stepped away from me, her hands immediately moved to her forehead as she pressed her fingers against her temples, as though trying to ease a headache or perhaps the overwhelming stress weighing on her.

Seeing her like that made something ache inside me.

The anger I had been feeling moments ago disappeared, as it was replaced by concern.

"Does it hurt?" I asked, as my voice softened instantly.

I took a careful step toward her and then another. Before she could move away, I gently pulled her into my arms.

The moment she felt my embrace, I tightened my hold.

"It’s alright, Theresa." I rested my chin lightly against her hair. "Everything is going to be just fine."

For a few seconds, she remained completely still and then exactly as I expected, her composure finally cracked.

A tiny sob escaped her lips, and then another. Soon, her shoulders began trembling as the quiet sobs turned into louder ones.

The pain she had been holding back finally spilled out. She buried her face against my chest, and at the same time, her fists struck my chest softly. Not enough to hurt but ust enough to express her frustration, her heartbreak and her exhaustion.

"I hate you all." She said, as the words came out muffled against my chest.

Barely above a whisper, yet they hit harder than any punch ever could.

"It’s alright, Theresa. We are with you." I said, as I tightened my arms around her slightly as I spoke.

The sight of her crying like this made my chest ache.

For so long, she had been trying to stay strong, trying to carry every burden alone and trying to pretend that none of it affected her.

But everyone had their limits and Theresa had clearly reached hers.

I gently rubbed her back, hoping to soothe some of the pain she was carrying.

"You just need to say the word." I said, my voice remaining soft but firm. "And we won’t let you go to him."

I meant every word.

If she told us right now that she didn’t want to return to Alex, I would personally make sure he never came near her again.

I wonder what is actually going on with the pack’s security. How can they just let anyone into the entrance of main mansion.

Did they have a death wish?

Theresa sniffed softly, her sobs were beginning to subsidr and the trembling in her shoulders slowly eased.

But I could still feel the hurt radiating from her.

"To hell with the inauguration ceremony." The words left my mouth before I could stop them, as my frustration surged again at the thought of Alex. "He could as well have his funeral on that day."

The bitterness in my voice was impossible to hide.

For a moment, Theresa simply stared at me and then something changed in her expression—a dangerous spark.

"That’s exactly what I want, Lawrence." She said.

Her words immediately caught my attention.

While still looking at me with her head tilted up, she slowly pulled away from my chest.

I released her without protest.

She lifted her hands and wiped at her swollen eyes.

The tears were still there, but something else had replaced the helplessness I had seen moments ago—it was a cold determination.

"Everyone from different packs would be present that day." She said, as her voice grew steadier with every word. "I want him to face a devastating blow he would never imagine."

I blinked.

The statement genuinely shocked me.

For a brief moment, I simply stared at her as this wasn’t what I had expected her to say.

She had almost chosen to go with him moments ago.

But the surprise lasted only a second and almost immediately, I regained myself.

If that was what she wanted, then so be it. I would help her without hesitation and without question.

She had suffered enough. If she wanted justice, then I would stand beside her.

"I need him to pay for hurting me." She continued, as her voice hardened. "And hurting my baby."

The words sent a fresh wave of anger through me, and my jaw clenched instantly. The thought alone made my blood boil.

"What is it you want to do?" I asked, as curiosity filled my voice and so did anticipation. "I am more than ready to help out."

Theresa wiped away the last traces of tears from her face and then she straightened her shoulders. The vulnerability she had shown moments ago seemed to disappear completely.

"What I want to do, I will need you all to achieve it." She said, her voice firm and certain, as the hesitation was gone."In three days..." she added, a faint smile slowly appeared on her lips.

It wasn’t a happy smile, it was the smile of someone who had already made a decision.

"I will give Alex the best gift ever." She added, as the smile widened slightly. "So fortunate, it is coincidentally also his birthday."

Silence filled the room.

I stared at her for several seconds.

Then I slowly nodded, as a sense of relief settled inside me.

This was the Theresa I knew—the strong and fearless Theresa, the woman who refused to remain broken.

The woman who always found a way to rise again.

And as I looked at her now, I couldn’t help but think one thing.

She was finally coming back.
