Chapter 455: Bonus Chapter 45: Death vs Death: Kill My Husband

An Amazon in Chimustar was a rare sight, and the presence of one sent ripples of unease through the crowd.

She had paused a little, her eyes scanning the room lightly before locking onto Severia at the corner table.

"Good evening, gentlemen..." She said in a deep, commanding feminine voice that carried authority and power.

She raised a hand in casual greeting and started moving towards her intended destination, her boots echoing against the stone floor with each deliberate step.

She stopped next to Severia’s table, standing like a moving mountain that could not be ignored or moved, and asked the unfocused lady: "Are you the assassin without a form? The one who can take any job at all, regardless of difficulty or consequence?"

Severia’s eyes then came back to Elyndor, removing them from the random distance they had been fixed upon and towards her guest.

Her green irises, dead and hollow, assessed the Amazon with clinical precision, cataloging every detail of her appearance and demeanor before she spoke.

"Are you the Amazon, Sara?" She asked, her voice husky and hushed, barely audible over the cavern’s ambient noise. "I have been waiting for you to arrive."

Ignoring the whispers about an actual Amazon being so close to them, all the hushed conversations and pointed glances, Sara nodded and took a seat adjacent to her.

The chair groaned under her weight, and she made herself comfortable as if she owned the place.

"I have someone I will like you to extinguish," Sara began immediately, her voice vibrating without any hesitation or doubt. "This person is very dangerous and sharp, and will not go down if it is not a blow that kills them immediately. Any lesser attack, any hesitation, and they will survive to retaliate with devastating force."

"I have slain people with high regenerating powers before," Severia took a sip of her fruit juice, the motion casual and unhurried. "I have ended beings that others considered immortal, that had survived centuries of assassination attempts. As long as it has a soul and a vessel, I can kill it. Nothing is beyond my reach... if the price is right."

Sara’s jaws clenched a little at that confident declaration, and her muscles tensed visibly beneath her skin. "I hope you are correct in your assessment of your abilities. If you fail in this task, my own head will roll as well as yours. The consequences of failure are not limited to the assassin alone."

Severia beheld Sara’s gaze intently, studying the Amazon’s expression for any sign of deception or hidden agenda.

After a long moment of consideration, she began: "I indeed take any and every job that comes my way... but I also ask a lot of questions to make sure I’m not being used as an experiment or bait to test out impossible opponents for sport. I have been burned before by clients who withheld crucial information, and I do not intend to drink from such a bitter cup ever again."

"Ask me anything you wish to know," Sara nodded firmly, her expression open and honest. "I will answer whatever questions you have to put your mind at ease."

"Who is the target to you? What is your relationship with this person?" Severia leaned forward slightly, her dead eyes fixed on the Amazon’s face.

"My husband," Sara answered firmly, her voice ringing without hesitation or embarrassment at the admission.

"Why do you want him dead?" Severia continued, her tone neutral and professional. "What has he done to warrant such an extreme measure from his own wife?"

"I suspect him of cheating on me with a human woman," Sara replied, her voice dropping lower as if the words themselves were painful to speak. "I have seen the signs, the late nights, the secrets, the way he looks at her when he thinks I am not watching. My honor demands satisfaction."

"Why is the human woman not being assassinated as well?" Severia asked, genuinely curious about the logic behind the request. "It seems inconsistent to target one but not the other."

"I do not have the power and stamina needed to kill my husband, who is far stronger than I am," Sara explained, her face twisting with frustration. "But I can very well rip the human woman to shreds with my own hands. She is not a concern, and she will be dealt with personally, in a manner befitting her transgressions against my marriage."

"Then we are talking about an arch human level threat, which is a significant step above the usual targets I deal with on a regular basis," Severia stated, her voice flowing with a note of professional assessment as she mentally cataloged the danger level.

Her dead green eyes remained fixed on Sara’s face, searching once more for any sign of deception or hesitation. "Is he still human in the traditional sense, or has he transcended that classification entirely through whatever means have made him so powerful?"

"He certainly... was human once, born of mortal parents and raised in the ordinary world," Sara answered, her voice dropping to a more contemplative register. "But he has grown far too powerful over the years, accumulating strength and abilities that have pushed him beyond the boundaries of what mortals can typically achieve. Whatever he is now, he is no longer simply a man."

"And you are absolutely sure you do not want to reconsider assassinating such an interesting person?" Severia asked, her tone carrying a hint of genuine curiosity. "A man of that caliber could be useful, valuable even, as an ally or a resource rather than a corpse. Many clients I know would pay handsomely for someone with that kind of power to be brought under their control."

"I can condone a lot of things in a marriage: differences of opinion, personal space, even occasional disagreements about important matters," Sara replied, her voice growing harder with each word. "But infidelity and betrayal are not among them. He made vows to me, promises that he has now broken. He must die for his transgressions, and I will accept no other outcome."
